Contemporary mellow jazzy soul...

Can anyone point me in the direction of stuff which might fall under this category? A couple of months ago I was out somewheres, and in-between sets all this great music was being played which had a strong "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" vibe to it, except all of this stuff also had the unmistakeable mark of something produced within the last several years. Unfortunately I'm too ignorant to know what any of it was, and also I was too lame that night to ask anyone...

neo soul - classic or dud?

Thanks; I'm pretty sure that it wasn't any of the people mentioned on that thread, though. The closest it was to any of that stuff, is say, "The Way" by Jill Scott, but with more of a psychedelicized laidback groove, with bendy analogue synth effects...

The Sa Ra Creative Partners Thread, finally...

Hmm, thanks, jaxon. The Sa Ra stuff and Trackademicks stuff cited on that thread comes close to what I have in mind, but replace the more hip hop elements with sung vocals. The tracks with more laidback beats and interesting vintage synth stuff are otm, though. Gittin warmer.

You can't go wrong with Erykah Badu's "Mama's Gun".

not exactly, jabba, but thanks! Some of the stuff on their site sounds pretty freaking great. Wow, Andrew Jervis is, um, truly UBIQUITOUS. There he is, putting out these...Danish guys' stuff.

These guys are the jazzy nu-ish soul Danish Phoenix. Or something...

Speaking of, I was wondering earlier today why Air, Daft Punk, Justice, etc. have receieved much more attention (as far as I can tell) than have Phoenix. Is it in part b/c Phoenix never had a crazy fancy video by a big name? Or have they?? (I am not a big music-video watching person, so maybe they did and it escaped me. I would not be surprised, given the Sofia Coppola connection...)

I just never understood why Phoenix were not huge, huge, huge.
