St. Thomas R.I.P

Just saw this in the Norwegian papers. Thought I'd post it here too, as he's had some international interest earlier.

Saint Thomas (Thomas Hansen) was found in an Oslo flat.

- I can confirm he was found dead around 20.00 last night. His closest relations alerted us, says Knut Skjelvan in Oslo Police District to VG Net.

- The Police has asked for an obduction, although not because they suspect something criminal has happened, Skjelvan tells.

- Saint Thomas' big break as an artist was at the Quart Festival in 1999. He arranged a nachspiel for festival goers, where one of his demos was played. This is where he was discovered by what was to become his label Racing Junior.

One year after, he released his critically acclaimed debut album "Mysterious Walks".

What's going on there? First Madrugada's guitar player and now this? :-/

I only saw him once, as the support act for Madrugada, in Bruges. He was pretty moody and angry at everyone from Belgium, because his papers and visa card had been stolen in his hotel (in another city) the day before and left the stage after about 20 minutes because he didn't feel like playing for us thieves anymore.

I saw him once supporting Lambchop, I think. Dry sense of humour, sweet sense of melody. RIP

Ugh, the lyric quote at the end of the MIC Norway story undermines the compassion I'm feeling and reminds me of how I felt about his music.

The sun is going down,
you feel like a hiding clown,
away is the answer here,
be cool be nice
- St. Thomas

RIP, though, Thomas Hansen.

I don't know the guy, but "be cool be nice" seems sound to me.

Very sad, I saw him support Lambchop, he was excellent, and funny as well. I bought the album (on vinyl no less) immediately. RIP.

2007 has been a sad year for the Norwegian music scene. Not only have we lost Saint Thomas and Robert BurĂ¥s. Also Jan Werner Danielsen, who was sort of a Norwegian Mika-type, with a rather naff style (into musicals, Michael Bolton, light opera, that kind of stuff) but also with a marvellous voice that at one point even made him a possible replacement for Freddie Mercury in Queen.
