My mom and I are arguing over which is the better Big Black song.
Your opinion?
In any case, Atomizer is the best Big Black album.

DAMNIT!!!
It's Passing COMPLEXION!...
I feel so stupid...
― Aja, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:35 (eighteen years ago)
I vote "Passing" cause of that crazy guitar riff. I like "Fists Of Love" and "Kerosene" more than either of these, though.

Yeah, I used to like Kerosene more than both of those, but I've realized that my attention span isn't long enough to listen to Kerosene any more. Haha.

I dig Atomizer, in fact I dig just about everything Big Black did, but I fail to see how it's better than Songs About Fucking. That's always struck me as the clear pinnacle.
Anyway, Passing Complexion I guess.

Yep, Passing Complexion, but Fists Of Love is better, the best song on Atomizer in fact.

Kerosene > Jordan, Minnesota > Fists of Love > Passing Complexion > Bad Houses > Bazooka Joe > Cables > can't remember the others

Can a good mix save a bad song? We'll find out I guess.

Kerosene + Cables are better I think! :)

passing. for that weird screaming guitar/sampler sound at the beginning (?) (it sounds like an sk-1 playing a sample of guitar??) (???)

I love love love "Bad Houses".
This album is easily my favorite Big Black album.

Passing Complexion, but what's stuck in my head right now is "Steelworker."

All of the Big Black Albums are my favorite Big Black album. (Well, not Pigpile.)

*jealous sigh*

"Kerosene" is better than both, but yeah "Passing Complection" wins.

I've often heard that Songs About Fucking is their best, and this still makes no sense to me. And nowadays, pretty much everything they did sounds a lot less scary than it did when if first came out, so I may never understand. I may prefer their Heartbeat to the Wire original though.

Songs is slightly more varied (as varied as Big Black gets anyway), I think than the second half of Atomizer so I think that contributes to it being slightly more listenable.

I like "Passing Complexion" more, but I probably woulda said "Bazooka Joe" if those two had been switched, sequence-wise. I tended to drift and tune out Big Black's records after the halfway-point, they were so numbingly monochromatic. (Exponentially more so the Rich Man's 8-Track
