I listened to this recently and was surprised how well it stood up. I like a few songs from Listen Like Thieves a little more, but the production on that one is more dated.

Ended up going with "Need You Tonight" by an "aah", but depending on the day I could have gone with pretty much anything besides "Devil Inside".

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 13 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

it's a load of shit

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 13 September 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

Never liked INXS, but Johnny's right, there is one here - 'Never Tear us Apart'

Phil Will, Thursday, 13 September 2007 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

I only know the singles, "Devil Inside" is not completely bad.

zeus, Thursday, 13 September 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

Great poll!

Good album - totally holds up. I love "Mystify" and "Need You Tonight," but picked "Guns in the Sky" because I played it once at a club between, like, DJ /rupture and Psychcic TV, and everyone seemed to go bonkers.

Never Tear Us Apart

forever and always and I don't even have a love interest I connect to the song, so there.

Bimble, Friday, 14 September 2007 02:45 (eighteen years ago)

Assholes Could Fly - Where were you on the Psychic TV thread man? We could have used the company!

Bimble, Friday, 14 September 2007 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

Only retarded cunts could ever listen an INXS song for more than five seconds.

King Boy Pato, Friday, 14 September 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)

Honestly, how could it be anything other than "New Sensation"?

Alex in NYC, Friday, 14 September 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

I hated "Need You Tonight" in 1988, now it sounds great.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 14 September 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

"Devil Inside", but "New Sensation" is close.

DavidM, Friday, 14 September 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

"Devil Inside" is great, probably the best of the rest is "Never Tear Us Apart".

Euler, Friday, 14 September 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

Every one of the singles on this album is so huge!
"Tiny Daggers" is sort of the odd one out, but it's really good, too.
Still voted Guns in the Sky, cuz they want to put GUNS in the SKY!?!?!?!

Trip Maker, Friday, 14 September 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

And Need You Tonight/Mediate always get played together, don't they?

Trip Maker, Friday, 14 September 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

the definitive revisionist INXS essay still needs to be written.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 14 September 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

And Need You Tonight/Mediate always get played together, don't they?

only if they're being played off the album, cos the one goes into the other innit

INXS - Classicking or Dudding?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 14 September 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I could find dave q's little write-up on Guns In The Sky, he makes it sound like some real avant shit

oh, sorry, it's "da da da"

kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

When I saw them live way back when, they had an intermission in the middle of Never Tear Us Apart - it was like ten minutes, and then the srings and the drums came back in - doo doo DOO dooo....I was like 11, it was awesome

Haven't read dave q's piece, but, for an opening tune, Guns In The Sky IS quite insane.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 14 September 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

What a cool fucking way to go about an intermission. I'm serious.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 September 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

there better be a combined 0 votes for the fucking b-side of this album. Most top-heavy LP in history.

Aside from "Never Tear Us Apart," of course.

The Good Dr. Bill, Friday, 14 September 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

Don't dismiss "Mystify" and "Calling All Nations" so quick.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 September 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

Guns In The Sky IS quite insane.

This would sound totally at home mixed with Mark Stewart & the Mafia.

QuantumNoise, Friday, 14 September 2007 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

Side 2 is fine, dude - "Mystify" is one of my favorites. But yeah, the rest is kinda meh, I guess. Even "Wild Life" (which, if I remember right, ends side 1) is pretty dull. God how the hell do I remember this shit?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 14 September 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Need You Tonight" may be close to the only INXS track worth voting for at all.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 17 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm. Even though I voted for Never Tear Us Apart, I rather wish New Sensation had won rather than the bare bones nothingness of Need You Tonight.

Bimble, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

ten months pass...

New Sensation still gives me goose pimples.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 28 July 2008 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

Honestly, how could it be anything other than "New Sensation"?

Seriously OTM. New Sensation forgives a lot of sins.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 28 July 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

That's it! It forgives the sins! Totally, man. Cause it's like...I mean I'm an atheist, but the whole song is like this sermon.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 28 July 2008 00:57 (seventeen years ago)

three years pass...

Does anyone know the story of why Michael Hutchence says "Trumpet!" right before the sax solo in "New Sensation"?

"guns in the sky" is so dope, it's like the gangsta rap album intro of inxs songs

some dude, Monday, 9 July 2012 02:34 (thirteen years ago)

everytime i played that tape in the car w/ the fam i'd always have to suddenly cough loudly over the 'it's a load of shit' part
