'O'Rang and other other-worldly sounding bands

does anybody here dispute the awesomeness of Herd of Instinct and Fields and Waves? Two amazing records that reaffirm how much visionary creative energy was present in Talk Talk, as well as sounding like not many other records--past or present--that I can think of.

I'm a fan of Gang Gang Dance, who recall this dubby, percussive sound-collage stuff, but what are some other records/artists worth checking out in this (is-it-even-a-definable) style?

Herd of Instinct was great.....though I haven't spun it in ages.

Definitely Jon Hassell - I put "Mind on Pleasure" and "Wing Melodies" back to back on a comp and it works a treat.

I think 'O'Rang also have an affinity with a lot of the dreamier/ethonodelic end of German house - e.g Vilalobos's Achso, Loco Dice's "A Chico A Rythmico" - lots of the Cadenza stuff basically.

I love both those 'O'rang records. I still hope Harris and Webb do another one, but it's beginning to seem unlikely.

Agree with 23 Skidoo. Also the Russell Mills albums with his Undark band. Also the Rain Tree Crow record. And I feel like there's a kinship with Califone's soundworld.

It sounds nothing like 'O'rang, but I'm assuming you've heard the Beth Gibbons & Rustin' Man record which Harris and Webb play all over.

Bob Holroyd, possibly other Six Degrees artists. the 2nd Another Fine Day CD?

Exactly right w Rain Tree Crow -- both have that tribal "I've turned the snares off on the snare drum" thing going on.

Didn't care IIRC for the second O'rang. Vox, right?

i'll have to check those out, i remember liking the bits of Earthquake Island i heard (I know he--no pun intended--trumpeted something called 'Fourth World' music, though I wonder if it actually lives up to its name)

LAND! the Jeff Greinke one. and solo JG.

If you're gonna cite Rain Tree Crow, you gotta add David Sylvian's _Blemish_ as well. A different vibe but the voice matches the almost unmusical backdrop.
