So, I was wondering how many Daves do you know in the music world? Some of them are Davids, but most of them are Daves. They all have their own hands, but they come from different moms...

These are the Daves I know, I know, these are the Daves I know

There's David Lee Roth

he was from van halen

then there was Dave Mustaine

who sang for megadeth

These are the Daves I know, I know, these are the Daves I know

Ooh, a KIDS IN THE HALL allusion.

- David Bowie - David St.Hubbins (Spinal Tap) - Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) - Davey Jones (Monkees) - Davey Gunner (drummer of antiquated New York hardcore band, Kraut) - Dave Ouimet (Firewater, Motherhead Bug and occaisional Foetus side- man) - David Kilgore (The Clean, I think....a New Zealand "Kiwi-pop" band)

My namesake, the Stranglers' drummer, which is a good thing because I can look him up in the Allmusic guide and go 'Ooh look, I'm famous!'.

Thank you but I am sad nobody even pretended to be singing. Dave Davies-- now that's a good one.

The Hairy Cornflake, Dave Lee Travis!

Craid David, David Essex, F.R David (had a number 2 hit in 1983 with Words), Dave Vanian (the Damned), David Coverdale (Deep Purple & Whitesnake), Dave 'the snake' Sabo (Skid Row), David Lovering (Pixies), Dave Holland (Judas Priest), Dave Pegg (Jethro Tull), David Sylvian (Japan), Dave Murray (Iron Maiden), Dave Lombardo (Slayer). The name Dave is very popular in the rock faction and amongst drummers!

what about everyone's [least] favorite, David Gray?! That tracy chapman sumbitch.

Dave Greenfield is *NOT* the Stranglers' drummer...he's the Stranglers' keyboardist. The drummer is the rotund behemoth that is Jet Black

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 12 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Least favorite Dave would be: David Cassidey

"Not Dave" in nyc, Thursday, 12 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hard to believe that James's exhaustive list excluded one drummer named Dave, but it did: Dave Mattacks. There's also his old cohort and namesake Swarbrick, the man who exposed Charles Moore as a lazy chancer who edits a national paper as a part-time job from his full- time job propping up the Groucho Club bar, rather than the other way round.

Saddest connection with the name Dave has to be the "Dave Clubs" of people who always call each other "Dave" in imitation of Trigger (from TV's *hilarious* and *not-at-all* overtly-repeated Only Fools and Horses) who always calls Rodney, erm, Dave. Nothing going on at Leighton Buzzard station today, you 529 part-time Daves?

Robin Carmody, Thursday, 12 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my fave dave: david johansen - new york dolls! yeah!

amy, Thursday, 12 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gah! Thank you Alex in NYC for pointing out my mistake. Crossed wires, you see - all the drummers I know are called Dave.

DG, Thursday, 12 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The first Dave that comes to mind is David Usher (Moist), probably because he was sitting in front of me at the movies a few weeks ago. Also there's New Zealander Dave Dobbyn, and god forgive me... David Foster.

Kim, Thursday, 12 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dave, from sam and dave. a soul man, for sure.

Didn't David Hasselhoff make a record once?

K2000, Friday, 13 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hasselhoff did indeed release an album, which saw huge success in germany. once again proving my theory, GERMANS LOVE DAVID HASSELHOFF.

Dave Bidini, man that cat can swing
He plays for the Rheostatics
And he writes about hockey too
These are the Daves I know I know, these are the Daves I know

Fuck! My flatmates were trying to think of exactly the same thing about this time last year - we came up with a comprehensive list of famous Daves - this is really spooky... you didn't go to essex uni btw? I'll post the list if i find it and can be arsed.
