Why not Chaz Jankel is Musically Direct?

I had NO idea Chaz Jankel was in the Blockheads and is co-responsible for Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, Wake Up and Make Love to Me, Spasticus Autisticus etc etc.

His first band, Byzantium, has some interesting moments as well.

That Sooner or Later record is great. One of my most-played of the year. I bought the Ai No Corrida/3,000,000 Synths reissue off the back of it, as I'd never heard them before.
I liked the Blockheads as a kid, because of the funny lyrics, and partly as an anti-style move at school. Then later got into the genius and humanity of Ian Dury as songwriter. It was only much, much later I twigged that they were this great, great band, and that's when you get into Chaz Jankel.

i had no idea he was known outside of Blockheads....

I've only heard the Quincy Jones version of "Ai Noi Corrida" and I really like it. Is the original as good?

I just got My Occupation in the mail and can now answer: yes, yes it is. I actually think I might like it a bit more, and I love the Jones version. And "Without You" is massive.

interestingly, the new song on this comp ("Get Myself Together") is as good as anything else on it...virtually every track sounds like it could have soundtracked pretty much any "gettin' it done, havin' some fun" sequence from pretty much any 80's teen movie...wish the single version of "Questionnaire" could have been put on it, though...
― henry s, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)
YEAH no questionnaire'! how odd.

the last track on the 'My Occupation' best of, 'Call Me (Bonus Dub)' is an excellent House track! But what was it released on originally (if anything)?
― Annoying Display Name (blueski), Friday, 17 October 2008 15:27 (seventeen years ago)
I think the liner notes mention that this was a new track for Tirk made for this release. There's an interview on Resident Advisor backing this up too. I haven't given this album much time.. not sure why. Is it right he's producing the next Robbie Williams album?
