Swedish Tourettes-having Eurotrashy dance music guy with geekspeak lyrics and an album called L0L.
THIS was a huge hit (and the first Swedish language number 1 on the Dutch Top 40!):

A thread about Basshunter is just about as needed as a thread about Las Ketchup. Or Los Del Rio. Or O-Zone. Or The Crazy Frog.

Pepper pizza and Red Bull? Ew!

Peppes Pizza, not Pepper Pizza. :)

Well, wtf is that?
― roxymuzak, Monday, 24 September 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)
i have nothing against one-hit wonders, I loved "Macarena" and "Dragostea Din Tei", but "Boten Anna" is really, truly awful. I guess it's easier to discuss for Americans, because you haven't been forced to continuously hear that song in the clubs and on the radio for the last year or so.

Norwegian pizza chain. No idea why a Swedish act should cite a Norwegian brand, but the interview was Norwegian.

I don't know! Take a look at the thread...
To be honest, I just think the juxtaposition of the lyrical content with the overly sentimental quality of the music is humorous. I might be missing something contextual about it that would otherwise make it unfunny to me, but that's par for the course, I suppose, when listening to something in a language you don't really know.

I know a bot Her name is Anna. Anna is her name. And she can ban, ban you so hard She rules in our channel I will tell you that I know a bot.
― Geir Hongro, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)
Yes, I know the English translation, Geir!
And I actually lolled reading that just now.

I dunno, I'm not even sure what "a bot" is. Some some sort of an IRC moderator? I guess there's something funny in having such a mundane song subject for such a melodramatic tune, I don't think the context is any different in Sweden.
To me, the most interesting thing in the song is that the BPM count is quite low for such a pop-trance tune. I usually run away from the dancefloor when this comes on, but I wonder if the trance crew finds it harder to dance...

It does seem slow for a trance tune.
such a mundane song subject for such a melodramatic tune
Otm, but is it meant to be a joke there?

Bot is short for robot. An automatically generated moderator. In this case, that is.
― Geir Hongro, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)
What I mean to say is: Is it understood as a joke there? xpost
― roxymuzak, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)
I'm not part of the target group, but the album is called LOL, I guess that tells you something.
I don't get it... How can a moderator work automatically?
― Tuomas, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)
A bot is basically a program that logs into IRC like a user. You can use them to do anything from banning people, to executing cute little scripts when people type certain things.
― rockapads, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)
Like swear words or something? How can they decide who to ban automatically?
― Tuomas, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)
people who run the channels set the bots up. they can ban people through the bots, or have the bots trigger kicks and/or bans from swear words, IP addresses, or whatever. bots can be whatever the programmer wants it to be: they can help operators run a channel in their absence, run games, distribute movies, porn, etc, or even act like a person to fake people out.

And the subsequent Dutch parody hit of it: "I Have A Boat" which reached the top 10 as well:

They've added horrible new English singing and lyrics to this for a January 2008 UK release. It's awful. You can hear it here.
― Raw Patrick, Thursday, 22 November 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)
The Norwegian papers have been -really- excited about that, because our most popular porn star is in it. This, I guess, is proof that Norway is in fact a culturally important nation after all! I'm thankful for not having heard this fellow's music.

Ditto.
Does Basshunter himself sing the English parts?
Basshunter makes me understand the existence of Gaahl.
