Primal Scream - Loaded (I can't even remember what the original song was called!)
The "original" (though virtually unrecognizable as the "same" song) is called "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have." I think "Loaded" sounds more like "Gloria in Excelsis Deo!"
― Spencer Chow, Sunday, 23 September 2007 03:23 (eighteen years ago)
17. G Dep, "Special Delivery" (remix feat. P. Diddy, Keith Murray, Craig Mack) and for that matter 18. Craig Mack, "Flava In Ya Ear" (remix feat. Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Rampage) 19. Royksopp, "Remind Me" (whatever remix was in the video) 20. Bjork, "Big Time Sensuality" (ditto)

― Tuomas, Sunday, 23 September 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
I suspect some people here mightn't realise that the remix of "Brimful of Asha" is the remix.

lso, as far as I've ever seen, "Brimful of Asha" was way more popular than the remix.
According to wikipedia, the original version got to #60 on the UK charts in 1997 and the remix got to #1 the following year. Make of that what you will.
― Billy Dods, Sunday, 23 September 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)
in england, maybe
― max, Sunday, 23 September 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)
it was top five in england, that remix. don't know how much play the original version got in the US when it came out -- i'm guessing it wasn't a big hit though?
with cornershop i think stevie d is coming from an indie perspective. for most people cornershop did not exist till the fatboy slim remix came out.
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 23 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)
That is a damn famous remix, but not nearly as famous as the original. Same with the Run-DMC song.
― kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 23 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i mean i know the coldcut remix is famous, and i doubt that 98% of people in america could name either the original or the remix, but of the remaining 2% i think more know the remix.

you're joking with the m83, right? i mean, "famous" is obviously a relative term here, but the originals surely edge it by many degrees.

― glen burnie, Monday, 24 September 2007 01:17 (eighteen years ago)
m83 jackson remix is more famous because of its inclusion on fabric 13 and m83 superpitcher remix probably isn't more famous than the original, but it is permanently lodged in my head (although it did appear on a couple pretty high profile dj mixes). famous doesn't necessarily mean better, but i think both of these are better than the originals.
― tricky, Monday, 24 September 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)
I didn't even know what indie was in 1997. I used to hear it on the late Y100 from time to time and didn't realize there even WAS a remix until earlier this year.

It's an Elvis song, though; there are a bazillion people out there who worship him and know every single song he did by heart.
But for every Elvis fanatic who know the original, there are 10 people who only know the remix, which was all over radio and TV when it became a big hit. Even the Wikipedia article says the original was a moderate success, while the remix hit #1 in 20+ countries.
― musically, Monday, 24 September 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)
And I know it's not always accurate to use sales #s to determine the popularity of one track over the other.
― musically, Monday, 24 September 2007 22:44 (eighteen years ago)
lol @ the Wikipedia article about E1vis: 30 #1 Hits:
This album was heavily supported by Rolling Stones detractors, because it knocked off the spot the then-new compilation Forty Licks, which it reached #2 in the UK, the US, and even most importantly, on the United World Chart for successive weeks.
I can imagine Beatles fans rushing to the store to each buy 10 copies of this album.

― energy flash gordon, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)
Disco Fever Remix aka the "UK Version" by Youth. This was the single mix, which also replaced the original album version in later pressings of "De La Soul Is Dead".

― C. Grisso/McCain, Friday, 28 September 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)
Pierre Henry - Psyche Rock (Fatboy Slim mix)

Is "Don't Mess With My Man" a cover or a remix of the original Lucy Pearl track? It's definitely a bigger hit now than the original ever was.
― Siegbran, Sunday, 30 September 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)
The DJ Gius remix? That was the video/single mix at least...

How about when a song on an album is simply slightly remixed for the 7" version, such as, for instance, "Heart" by Pet Shop Boys, "Hunting High & Low" by a-ha? The single mix will usually become more famous than the original. Does that count?
― Geir Hongro, Friday, 30 November 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)
-- Geir Hongro, Friday, 30 November 2007 13:07
I wouldn't think so since that's a fairly common practice, where this thread is about the more unusual occurrence of an outside remix gaining major traction.

― jaymc, Thursday, 3 January 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)
it's the that starts out with the organ thing and the "OW" and then has the unmistakable organy-keyboard line
the original version starts out with the chanting of "Everybody, everybody, everybody everybody!" and then a light silly piano comes in and it turns discofluff

Pet Shop Boys: The 12 inch version of the re-recorded "One More Chance". The original remained unreleased until it appeared on disc 2 of the remastered "Actually".
― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 3 January 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
(The original version of the re-recording, I mean, although the 12 inch is probably more famous than the Bobby O original from 1984 too)
dukes of windsor - the others (tv rock remix)
― electricsound, Thursday, 3 January 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)
In this case, given their working methods, it's more a case of "released versions of songs more famous than their unreleased demo versions"
