"Let's Wait Awhile." Perfect Jackson/Jam/Lewis balladry.

too harxd!!!!

Surmounter, Sunday, 23 September 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

Going for the title track here, which is sonically interesting without ever losing sight of the tune.

"Nasty" is of course one of the worst things ever to have happened to music, but the rest of the album is nice enough.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

title track does rule, i must admit, but i get weak for You Can Be Mine, He Doesn't Know I'm Alive and When I Think Of You. and then of course you have Pleasure Principle which is like heaven.

this is what i'm saying, it's too hard.

that part in He Doesn't Know I'm Alive

"when he opened the door
I could have died -
there I was, all aloooooone!
Talk to him?
I said Excuse me, I thought my
friend lived here"

UGH

Surmounter, Monday, 24 September 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

Amazing album.

max r, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

This album really helped me through a crippling depression. SO wish I'da been teen-aged when this came out.

Abbott, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

how so?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

I can't decide!

max r, Thursday, 27 September 2007 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

i did it!!!!!!!!

You Can Be Mine

i know WHOAAAAA

Surmounter, Friday, 28 September 2007 00:28 (eighteen years ago)

You know, I don't own this album; I've the remix record. Are the album tracks worth hearing?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 28 September 2007 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

um

Surmounter, Friday, 28 September 2007 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

That's a big duh.

I had to be an annoying populist and go with Nasty. But really, no track on this album is anything short of classic.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 28 September 2007 08:14 (eighteen years ago)

actually i'm really glad someone went with Nasty cuz it's so obviously like the fierce single at first. but it's an album where getting to know it is so much more fun than just the big single. so i was worried no one would go for Nasty.

i think maybe Pleasure Principle might take it, that or What Have you Done

Surmounter, Friday, 28 September 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

I regret not voting for "Let's Wait Awhile". A magnificent song, and possibly the best ever ballad by Jam & Lewis.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

ha! called that on the nose

Surmounter, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

Nope, these results are six shades of wrong. Nasty should be WAY up there, even if I voted for When I Think of You at the last minute (yeah I know I said Let's Wait Awhile was my fave, but I guess I caved in hopes the former would win).

Bimble, Saturday, 29 September 2007 01:13 (eighteen years ago)

control didn't get enough love either

Surmounter, Saturday, 29 September 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

when i was seventeen, i did what ppl told me -- ha!

Surmounter, Saturday, 29 September 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

did what my father said, and let my mother mold me -- well, that was long ago

I'm in control.

Surmounter, Saturday, 29 September 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

Nasty should be WAY down there. The rest are all great, but "Nasty" is absolutely godawful.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 30 September 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

when i was seventeen, i did what ppl told me -- ha!

I know, this is the line that most kills me in that whole song and to be honest I really didn't like it much when I first got into this album. It just touches me somehow that her whole deal was becoming independent from her family...she even has a vignette at the beginning of one of her videos where she argues with her "pretend" parents, I can't remember which one it is, but it's from this album.

It's so fantastic to think her dad had been her manager all that time for her first two albums and then she fired him and became a superstar overnight. I'm all for independence, me. My hero Genesis P. Orridge once said that families were abusive institutions and I'm afraid I agree. They don't have to be, but they often are, even just subtly, psychologically. My friend gets all upset about arguments she has with her family all the time and I'm like "Man, if there are no financial ties of necessity there, let them go. You will be more sane, trust me."

Bimble, Sunday, 30 September 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

It's the "Control" video.
