Bimble, Sunday, 23 September 2007 03:38 (eighteen years ago)

I could listen to "Alright" anytime anyplace.

Eric H., Sunday, 23 September 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

yeah I voted for that too! just over the title track. the whole album is fantastic

daria-g, Sunday, 23 September 2007 04:34 (eighteen years ago)

I had to go with Love Will Never Do, just for the video. *drool*

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 September 2007 04:46 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah that video is yummy indeed. But I'm going for the title track. Great, great record overall.

Kevin John Bozelka, Sunday, 23 September 2007 07:55 (eighteen years ago)

Voted for "Someday is Tonight" and its great Herb Alpert solo.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 23 September 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

My favourite video (and song) of her ever:

Bimble, Sunday, 23 September 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

It kills me too that you always see her with that key in her ear back then. Video after video she STILL has that key in her ear. I love it.

Bimble, Sunday, 23 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

Listen to the subtle wah-wah guitar at the end of "Miss You Much".

Bimble, Sunday, 23 September 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

Got to be the title track for me. "The Knowledge" being the best of the non-singles.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 23 September 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

LOVE WILL NEVER DO in a heartbeat. transcendental

Surmounter, Sunday, 23 September 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

Escapade makes me nostalgic enough to vote for it, although it's probably not the best song on this.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

At the time, I would've voted "Escapade" without a second thought.

Eric H., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

i mean, it's obvious the top 3 are:

love will never do
miss you much
escapade

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

No love for Black Cat? Fine, I'll vote for it.

(Is this the best Janet Jackson album? I think I need to go and download a couple more, but I know this is the best Janet Jackson album I own.)

I eat cannibals, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

I would say this is her best. "Control" gets props for creativity, but with its use of all those bad samples and DX7 sounds sounds very dated today, while "Rhythm Nation 1814" still sounds fresh.

Btw. Does anyone know what the 1814 in the title stands for?
1814 is a very important year in Norwegian history, but I doubt the Norwegian constitution is what she had in mind when she decided the album title....

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

Good lord, Geir, it's the aproximate age of the Rhythm Nation--right there in the bloody title, ya know!

JN$OT, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

18 = "R"
14 = "N"

Count yr alphabet letters.

Mark G, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

I see. Still a very symbolic bunch of numbers for us Norwegians. :)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

haha--I never noticed that.

x-post

JN$OT, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

control

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

"Alright" for me.

matt2, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

so much good, but went with "Alright"

da croupier, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 04:46 (eighteen years ago)

I'll go for the title track and regret it in the morning.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

'Miss You Much' Janet.

SeekAltRoute, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

i'm flabbergasted at all the love for the title track and alright, which are both ALRIGHT WITH ME but definitely not first billing

Surmounter, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 27 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

that is some big bullshit

Surmounter, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

Heheheh. I don't know. It doesn't really bother me that the title track won, and it's certainly deserving in the pure sonic sense (as opposed to tune or anything else), but I wouldn't have expected that kind of margin.

Bimble, Saturday, 29 September 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

"ain't no acid in this house"

max r, Saturday, 29 September 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)

Ah yes, "Black Cat." The JJ song for people who don't like JJ.

Eric H., Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

Just a couple weeks ago, I listened to "Lonely" in full for the first time and was all "whoa, where did this sexy thing come from?"

Eric H., Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the last two songs are what janet tries to sustain for 60 minutes.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that album is about 3 hours long isn't it?

Eric H., Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

Alfred, thank god for your sanity. I tried "Janet"...in fact I tried "If" the video and I just thought "oh the shame...popular music culture hasn't even changed since 1993!"

"Black Cat" is a terrible blight upon this album, and the RN video I rented last weekend said that JANET HERSELF WROTE THAT AWFUL GUITAR RIFF in Black Cat and I was like "OOPS!!!" How awful for her, the poor girl.

But Alfred, I thought you said "Someday Is Tonight" was your fave?? Which "last two songs" are you referring to? Or are you drunk like me?

Bimble, Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't say it was my favorite -- I just liked "Come Back To Me" and "Someday is Tonight" (and "Lonely") as great makeout parlor room ballads.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

I wasn't saying janet. is bad. In fact, it's probably her best, her Erotica.

Eric H., Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, "Janet" is her "Erotica", a complete waste that was released at a time when one would have expected way better.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 29 September 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

Geir, you're a big All For You fan, if I'm not mistaken? (or maybe just the single is what I'm thinking of)

The Reverend, Saturday, 29 September 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

The single, yes. The album, no.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 29 September 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

black cat is the worst track, innit

max r, Saturday, 29 September 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

All For You is amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing

Surmounter, Saturday, 29 September 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

Rather amazing that Janet Jackson topped the Album Rock Radio chart with "Black Cat." Whitney Pastorek otm (although I don't think the song's much more than a tolerable "Dirty Diana")

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 29 September 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

"Dirty Diana" isn't tolerable?!?!?!?!?! I love to tolerate it! Though "Black Cat" is probably better.

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

naw, bro. Paranoid Jacko's best represented by "Jam," "Billie Jean," and "Morphine."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 29 September 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

She'll be the freak you can taunt!

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

She said "I have to go home, cuz I'm real tired, you see. But I hate sleepin' alone. Why don't you come with me?" I said "my baby's at home! She's probably worried tonight; I didn't call on the phone to say that I'm alright."

Diana walked up to me. She said, "I'm all yours tonight!" At that, I ran to the phone, saying "Baby, I'm alright." I said "but unlock the door, because I forgot the key." She said, "he's not coming back, because he's sleeping with me!" Dirty Diana! Oh!

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

Good lyrics, bad tune.

The Reverend, Saturday, 29 September 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, not even bad tune, really, just atrocious production.

The Reverend, Saturday, 29 September 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

Geir, your hatred for both janet. and Erotica warms my heart.

Eric H., Saturday, 29 September 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

after voting for Rhythm Nation, I instantly regretted not picking Interlude: Pledge

gabbneb, Saturday, 29 September 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

lol ridiculous

Surmounter, Saturday, 29 September 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hahaha! I was hoping for a post like that all along, gabbneb! Just one person who might stick up for one of the silly Interludes! I thought about it later and was like "why did I put them in there? Oh yeah, I was drunk and just copied and pasted and couldn't be bothered to take them out!"

Bimble, Sunday, 30 September 2007 02:26 (eighteen years ago)

Paranoid Jacko's best represented by "Jam," "Billie Jean," and "Morphine."

That'd be "Tabloid Junkie", "D.S." and "Leave Me Alone".

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 30 September 2007 02:47 (eighteen years ago)

Gosh, I just played Love Will Never Do (Without You) really loud on my stereo and no one called the cops. I am in awe. I played Michael's "Off The Wall" before that. But I'm just trying to say that Love Will Never Do (Without You) is the absolute shit. I've never really seen it before in all its grandeur until now.

Bimble, Sunday, 30 September 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

um i tried telling you. it's absolute euphoria

Surmounter, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

and yes i'm alwways surprised i don't get yelled at by anyobdy for pumping it all hours of the day and night

Surmounter, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 25 March 2021 19:58 (four years ago)

Velvet Rope is a greater album, but this is her most consistent collection.

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Thursday, 25 March 2021 20:15 (four years ago)

somewhat weird poll results i think

dyl, Friday, 26 March 2021 02:50 (four years ago)

Weird. I dont think I like the title track that much. Hard to pick though, I think it's all great except black cat. Her second best album after control.

candyman, Friday, 26 March 2021 06:16 (four years ago)

“Escapade” (justly) won the overall Janet tracks ballot poll, so yeah, these results are weird.

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Friday, 26 March 2021 13:38 (four years ago)

Yeah, I would've voted for "Escapade."

birdistheword, Friday, 26 March 2021 14:45 (four years ago)

LET'S GO

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 26 March 2021 14:47 (four years ago)

hey guys

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 26 March 2021 14:47 (four years ago)

you know it's Friday too!

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 26 March 2021 14:47 (four years ago)

I hadn't heard this album yet in 2007, but "Escapade" would also get my vote now

Vinnie, Friday, 26 March 2021 15:00 (four years ago)

top 3 of this poll OTM
