Wait 'til My Bobby Gets Home
And no we haven't done it yet, amazingly.

I am boring and I pick "Be My Baby". The rare true stereo version.
― Geir Hongro, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)
lolol
― ghost rider, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)
People who don't pick "Be My Baby" are the same people who have some shit like Marky as their favorite Ramone.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)
i was going to pick 'christmas (baby please come home)' ;_;
― ghost rider, Monday, 24 September 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)
I'm going to pick whatever MONO song Geir hates the most
― Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)
I vote for the Treasures' "Hold Me Tight"
― Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)
what is this track 'robitaille and carr' that i have as a b-side of one of the 70s rereleases? internet is not telling me much. it's a rawsome instrumental.
i think maybe 'then he kissed me'.
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:10 (eighteen years ago)
"River Deep, Mountain High," suckers.
"Be My Baby" is top 3, easy, though.
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)
Geir, where can one find this rare stereo mix of BMB?
― Jazzbo, Monday, 24 September 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)
Hmm. I'd say "RD, MH" is a good candidate for his best production - it's the one that flashes me the best glimpse as to why the guy was considered such a heavyweight. As for the (GREAT) Ronettes/Crystals/Darlene Love recordings - well, I tend to love 'em DESPITE that damned Wall of Sound. And Shakey OTM: Stereo's a wonderful thing, but not in Phil's hands.
Are we gonna see a "Phil Spector, what's on your iPod?" thread in the near future?
― Myonga Vön Bontee, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)
the alt. stereo mixes are all over soulseek.
― pisces, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)
were these mixes that Spector himself did...? I really don't see the point. Its like saying the Godfather would be SO MUCH BETTER in 3-D or something.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)
Maverick: She's lost that loving feeling. Goose: No, she hasn't. She has not lost... Maverick: She's lost it, man. Come on. Goose: I hate it when she does that. Maverick: Excuse me, miss...

naw, it's the Ronettes doing "I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine." Why? Because it's in my opinion the Spector production that shows you what he was actually trying to do, beyond the cliches about Wall of Sound...in that the voices and the orchestration are just gauze, thinned down like his hair as he sat there and contemplated nothingness, and the drums are not there at first and then you realize the drumming and the drum sound is totally insane, assertive, carrying all the rage or wistfulness for whatever Spector was wistful for (youth, respect, his mom, his dad, success which proved the bitch goddess, etc.) and which he sublimated so well. it's my favorite Spector production, altho I do always like "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" a lot as a statement of banality and of course I like "River Deep."
― whisperineddhurt, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)
Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is so great. love that psych-fuzz guitar break.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)
Another vote for "Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)" Even U2 couldn't ruin it, as Phil's bombast somehow remained unscathed, emerged whole and overtook theirs, like Jonah swallowing the whale.
― James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)
darlene love doing it on letterman every year (this still happens i hope?) is like my very favorite cheesy tv convention of all time
― ghost rider, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)
Besides "Be My Baby," which is obv. the choice: "This Could Be the Night" by the Modern Folk Quartet, the greatest Beach Boys song Brian Wilson never wrote.
― Brent, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)
"baby, I love you" always gets overshadowed by "be my baby", and it's just as great!
― fritz, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
I didn't vote for it, but does anybody else like the Ronettes cover of "I'm So Young" by The Students?
― James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)
huh I thought the Ronettes' was the original
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)
(Beach Boys cover is also great)
