Look at Britpop just DOMINATING that chart. Ash really have been going for fucking ages, huh?

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

"Waterfalls" it is, though "Kiss from a Rose" and "Destination Eschaton" are close seconds.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

I think that maybe 2/3 of this chart I first heard on The Big Breakfast.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

BJORK FTW

Just got offed, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

34. Smokie Featuring Roy 'Chubby' Brown - Living Next Door To Alice (Who The Fuck Is Alice)

is this some vision of hell or what

Just got offed, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

I went with "Boom Boom Boom", just ahead of "74/75". Happy days.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

One of the dudes from Alice actually died in a car crash between them recording that song and them releasing it. What a tragedy. ;_;

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

*from Smokie

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

What, you don't remember "Shy Guy"?! That's a great tune! "I don't want somebody/ loving everybody..."

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

Oh lord have mercy mercy mercy...

NickB, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah!

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

shy guy is ridiculously classic, obv.

but actually i think ima go for... SEAL

r|t|c, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

If you discard Blur and Oasis, the top 20 is really quite good! "Shy Guy", "Human Nature", "Waterfalls", "Son of a Gun", "Come and Get Your Love"...

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

blur and oasis are almost certainly two of the better things in that top 20, much as it pains me to say it.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, a good pub quiz question:

Q28: In the great chart battle for number one between Blur's "Country House" and Oasis' "Roll with it", what came third?

A: The Original - I Luv U Baby

Followed by all team captains going "How are we supposed to know that???"

Mark G, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

Got it now! ;)

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

The #1 was one of the Top 20 best singles ever released, and is of course an obvious winner here. With "Roll With It" - an underrated Oasis classic - just as obvious as the runnerup.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

wait what

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

I'll have a number 35 please.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Although, I didn't see Waterfalls before I voted.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

And it's got the only U2 tune people actually like. This was a strong week.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

the only U2 tune people actually like

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

Haha, that really is the only U2 tune I like!

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Felix or JX. i can't decide.

jed_, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

14-year old me sat down and listened to every minute of this chart. I expect even that Matt Goss track would give me a Proustian rush.

Went for the Connells.

grebtesthit, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, somebody in the United Kingdom actually purchased a Tina Arena single once??

And I didn't know "Country House" has been rehabilitated in the eyes of the hipster politburo. Somebody should keep us informed about this kind of thing.

King Boy Pato, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

Also, was it no surprise that Edwyn Collins topped the list? (No, it is easily the best song on the list.) Maybe, but you as a 11-year-old didn't overhear your mum's best fat friend say that song "made her feel horny".

King Boy Pato, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

sad to have missed this :(

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, somebody in the United Kingdom actually purchased a Tina Arena single once??

'Chains' was a pretty big hit IIRC.

I don't even know who Edwin Collins is/was, I don't think he made any impact here.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

The 70s were truly the decade without Boom.

NickB, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)
