Juke Box Hero is a popular song from 4, the 1981 album by Foreigner.

The song details the events of a man unable to purchase a ticket to a sold-out rock concert. Listening in he hears "one guitar" and has an epiphany, leading him to buy his own guitar from a second-hand store and without any lessons begins to play. He realizes that with the guitar he can, and does, become famous. The song then goes on to describe the struggle he has to stay on top of the music charts, which makes him a "Juke Box Hero."

A cover version by Soul Asylum appeared on their 2006 compilation Closer to the Stars: Best of the Twin/Tone Years.

A cover version by punk band Jewdriver has been performed live, re-named as "Jukebox Hebrew.

I thought I'd be able to think of 4 or 5 Foreigner songs I like more than this one, but really it's just "Feels Like The First Time" right now. So #3.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

the thing that makes me lose it with this song is when he says "six string"

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

yeah the way each word is on a beat and he kind of aspirates them.

gershy, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

ONE GUITAR!!!!!!!

See, when this song was written, he heard the roar of the crowd and had to picture the scene. Now he'd just wait for the show to pop up on YouTube three days later.

On the whole I'd prefer "Urgent" or "Long Long Way From Home" or "Dirty White Boy". But yeah, they really were a pretty fine singles band, weren't they? (The belated realization of which only struck me mere months ago, after 20 yrs of resistance due to overexposure.)
