My vote for "Here, There And Everywhere", one of McCartney's best ever ballads. But this album is crowded with contenders.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

"Tomorrow Never Knows," easiest choice ever unto eternity.

Eric H., Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

We did this already, didn't we?

Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, looka!

Best Song on Beatles' "Revolver"

Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:21 (eighteen years ago)

"Tomorrow Never Knows" winning last time might explain Geir redoing it.

Eric H., Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

So if he can get 17 likeminded souls together...

Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone who fails to vote for Yellow Submarine is an idiot.

moley, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

"Wee all failed to vote for Yellow Submarine"

Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

OK lock thread and poll then.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:45 (eighteen years ago)

I predict a pretty even spread on this one.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

"Tomorrow Never Knows," although it only just beats "I'm Only Sleeping".

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

Here There and Everywhere - one of the great, great songs by anyone, ever

iago g., Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for something different this time.

Misery, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

Haha--voted for "And Your Bird Can Sing" last time, "She Said, She Said" this time, will probably vote for "Tomorrow Never Knows" next time, etc.

JN$OT, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

Here's the last Revolver poll, which took place on ILE:

Best Song on Beatles' "Revolver"

I said it then, and I'll say it now: "Tomorrow Never Knows", though lots of excellent stuff to choose from.

Joe, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

I already added that.

Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

If only somewhere there was a thread where I could link previously linked links to previously polled polls.

Eric H., Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

this is easy enough. TNK by a long shot.

Mark Clemente, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

As far as I'm concerned, this thread could be duplicated another half-dozen times and I'd happily vote for a different track each time out. (Awestruck am I, still.) But I've been calling "She Said She Said" my favourite for years, so why change now?

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

I'm Only Sleeping! Most underrated Beatles song ever.

Best Beatles album, too.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Thursday, 27 September 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

You guys are nuts. Paul dominates this album with For No One, Eleanor Rigby, and Here, There, and Everywhere. Although She Said, Tomorrow, and Your Bird are great as well, I have to go with For No One.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

No love for "Taxman"?

musically, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Not here

Tom D., Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

Who's nuts? You're nuts. I bet you also like "the long and winding road". Man, you're nuts. I mean, really nuts.

Rich Smörgasbord, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

John and Paul do a nearly equal level of ass-kicking here - but John has a slight edge I'm afraid. He knocks it out of the park with ever song (with the possible exception of "Dr. Robert," which still RULES).

Davey D, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

xpost

Long and Winding Road isn't in the same league as Paul's Revolver songs. For No One is understated and achingly beautiful.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

I love Taxman. Great guitar solo.

Rich Smörgasbord, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

"And Your Bird Can Sing" has a great George solo, maybe my favorite.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 27 September 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

Man, the guitar on that melts. I went with "Tomorrow Never Knows," although I secretly wish I could have voted for "Love You To," such a sinister George raga affair.

talrose, Thursday, 27 September 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realize there was alot of love for I'm only Sleeping. It gets my vote, followed by She said

niceboy, Thursday, 27 September 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

Eleanor Rigby.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 September 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

I'm Only Sleeping

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 27 September 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

I was part of a John Lennon tribute concert here in Portland last month - there were about 10 bands playing 3 Lennon songs each. One of the artists, amazingly, performed "Eleanor Rigby" with an 8-piece string section, oblivious to the fact that it was not a Lennon song. It was an awesomely uncomfortable moment.

Davey D, Thursday, 27 September 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

Taxman's great hook is undermined by the goddamned whining of the lyrics. OH NO GEORGE HE'LL TAX YOUR FEET!

My gut reaction was to go for TNK, but I think I might go contrarian and pick the song prior.

I eat cannibals, Thursday, 27 September 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

I loves that record to pieces. (And woulda loved it even more if "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" been included)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 27 September 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

"Tomorrow Never Knows", but "Good Day Sunshine" is a close second.

Euler, Friday, 28 September 2007 01:00 (eighteen years ago)

Last time I voted for "And Your Bird Can Sing." This time I'm voting for "I'm Only Sleeping." Thank you ILM.

Rockist Scientist, Friday, 28 September 2007 01:12 (eighteen years ago)

"I'm Only Sleeping" here. Best song on an album full of top quality tunes.

Z S, Friday, 28 September 2007 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

for no one

gman, Friday, 28 September 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)

no love for "got to get you into my life"? "i want to tell you"? yeah, but i'm still voting for "tomorrow never knows." i guess it's because none of it's throngs of adherents have really caught up with it yet. that's gotta count for something.

Lawrence the Looter, Friday, 28 September 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

I can't get past the tiresome didactic psychedelic lyrics on "Tomorrow Never Knows." It just seems very very flawed to me, despite some interesting things going on in it.

Rockist Scientist, Friday, 28 September 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

"And Your Bird Can Sing" for me please. I just love how the guitar keeps chattering. And it wasn't until this year that I realized how nasty (or rather, relentlessly critical) the song is. Adorno would've loved it. Also, you can sing the last bit to your rock crit friends (if not to yourself):

"You tell me that you've heard every sound there is
And your bird can swing
But you can't hear me, you can't hear...me"

In other news, I JUST figured out my increasing problem with McCartney. He was the first popist (before rockism ever existed). He was heavy and self-satisfied about how light and unselfconscious his creations were. Which means starting with this album, his songs were getting heavy and self-satisfied.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 28 September 2007 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

They could be singing a recipe for carrot cake over that music and "Tomorrow Never Knows" would still be one of the best rock songs ever recorded.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 28 September 2007 08:18 (eighteen years ago)

ar.

When this closes, we'll have to compare the quantity of voters this time round.

Mark G, Friday, 28 September 2007 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

"Love You To". George's curry-house soundtracks are always my favourites.

PhilK, Friday, 28 September 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

I'm voting for "Got To Get You Into My Life" again. I think it's the better of the psychedelic tracks on Revolver (horns pwn sitars). If you don't buy that, I'll say it's the best soul song in the Beatles catalog.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 28 September 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Someone needs to do a Revolver vs Pepper thread. I know there's already an albums poll around which Revolver topped, but I suspect a lot of the Magical Mystery Tour and white album people would tend towards Sgt Pepper.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Friday, 28 September 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

I voted the same way I did last time.

SeekAltRoute, Friday, 28 September 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

I think I did too - Eleanor Rigby.

Groke, Friday, 28 September 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

Someone needs to do a Revolver vs Pepper thread.

On ILM, I'm pretty sure "Revolver" would win. It would in any case, other than among baby boomers and prog fans.

I prefer "Sgt. Pepper" though.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 28 September 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

and your bird can sing is magnificent, one of my very favorite beatles songs, underappreciated

akm, Friday, 28 September 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

"She Said She Said" for me.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 28 September 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

I used to find Eleanor Rigby dark and chilling as a child - it had something of the odour of grimily-veneered church pews at Benediction on a Friday evening in October. Ish. It still feels like that to me but my own daughter loves Good Day Sunshine, so she wins.

Michael Jones, Friday, 28 September 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

yellow submarine!

max r, Friday, 28 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

classic 90s CD reissue!

max r, Friday, 28 September 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

here there and everywhere, but tomorrow it could be for no-one.

darraghmac, Friday, 28 September 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

Has anyone ever mentioned that "Tomorrow Never Knows" dances like a motherfucker? You can frug to it like a, well, motherfucker.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

and John hated "And Your Bird Can Sing" (and thought the lyrics to "Across the Universe" could stand alone as "poetry")!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

The Chemical Brothers most decidedly knew the frugability of "TNK"

I love that album so freakin' much, I'd marry it (if that were legal.)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

2MOROW NEVR NOSE

stephen, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

George's curry-house soundtracks

roffle. (I voted TNK.)

Rock Hardy, Friday, 28 September 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

The Chemical Brothers most decidedly knew the frugability of "TNK"

My impression is that song was more or less "ordered" by the Gallaghers. They wanted to make their own "Tomorrow Never Knows", but they realized they weren't able to, so Noel wrote a song and told Chemical Brothers to arrange it while Liam provided vocals.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 28 September 2007 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

um, if yr talking about "Setting Sun", that's Noel's singing, on a song he apparently wrote years before (according to Paul Gal).

If you mean "Let Forever Be", that's also Noel singing, but he may well have written that one "to order".

If you are talkign about "The private Pschedelic reel", um, there's no vocals on it.

Mark G, Thursday, 4 October 2007 08:28 (eighteen years ago)

Speaking "Setting Sun". I thought Liam was the one singing though.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:23 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Jeez, it's not even the best sitar track on the album.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

sad about the no votes for "doctor robert" and the one vote for "love you to." both fantastic songs. (and only one vote for "taxman" too. where's the love for george?)

fact checking cuz, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

"setting sun" is most definitely noel.

fact checking cuz, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

I never really noticed how the drawing of paul on the cover doesn't really resemble him at all.

Z S, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

I think it does! The one of George looks more like David Bowie though.

Alba, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

I have a messenger bag with this cover as its print. At a White Stripes concert I was asked "Who's on your bag?" *cringe*

(I voted <u>Got To Get You Into My Life</u> - it's so crisp.)

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

jeez, now i wish i'd voted for "dr. robert." but i'm still not used to it being on revolver; i grew up with the u.s. version which didn't have "dr. robert," "and your bird can sing," and "i'm only sleeping." i'm still slightly surprised when those songs come on.

Lawrence the Looter, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

You get pretty hard-wired to a certain song order, don't you? My record had a skip in "She Said" and when I heard the song later, somewhere else, it was very strange not to hear that skip. Ah, skips...

Rich Smörgasbord, Friday, 5 October 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)

Glad to see "And Your Bird Can Sing" getting so high. Somewhere is a "favorite guitar solo" thread where I managed to bring it up on two separate occasions, having forgotten that I mentioned it the first time. Such a gorgeous recording.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 5 October 2007 04:27 (eighteen years ago)
