You get the point? Single-timbral means using lots of different sounds from the same synth doesn't count.

i remember being amazed when i realized after listening to the song a whole bunch of times that the only instrument is piano. it's so atmospheric!

I'll take a stab at this-"The Fish" from Yes? Does that count?
― Bill Magill, Friday, 28 September 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)
The Fish contains at least three instruments: guitar, bass and drums.

i think a lot of "demo" recordings would qualify for this - the one that comes immediately to mind (which is demo stuff, but officially released) is PJ Harvey's 4-Track Demos, which contains PJ classics from the first 2 records like "Snake" "Ecstasy" "Easy" "Yuri-G" "Rid of Me" "Legs" "Reeling" "50ft Queenie" all done with voice and electric guitar, nothing else as far as i recall.

Can Harry Nilsson's "Living Without You" (Randy Newman wrote it) count? There are a lot of layered vocals.

Good point, although being man-made they may count as "vocals". :)

but "Two-Headed Boy" counts (as does "Two-Headed Boy, Part 2" if you exclude the intro)
