"Ain't No Half Steppin'" over "The Symphony" & "Poison". All great, obv.

The Reverend, Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

"Eric B. for President," which is kind of a ringer in terms of how the Juice Crew is generally thought of historically, but fuggit. And yes, all great.

Matos W.K., Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, I tend to prefer his less skeletal, later stuff. If this had "Mama Said Knock You Out", I'd vote for that in a heartbeat.

The Reverend, Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

ma-ma-ma-make 'em make 'em clap to dis

The Good Dr. Bill, Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

Also, "Eric B. Is President" isn't really one of my favorite EB&R songs, and I prefer Kane when he's on fire to Rakim when he's on fire, even though the latter is much more consistent.

The Reverend, Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

I should have probably re-listened some before I voted; "EBFP" came to mind more immediately. I actually like Kane more as a lyricist too.

Matos W.K., Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

otm re: consistency vs. fire

Matos W.K., Sunday, 30 September 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

deej, Sunday, 30 September 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

Symphony

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 30 September 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

Matos: I wouldn't even say I prefer Kane as a lyricist (I can't think of anything he's done that matches, say, "Follow the Leader" in that department), but as a performer.

The Reverend, Sunday, 30 September 2007 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

actually i vote CNN :p

deej, Sunday, 30 September 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 30 September 2007 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

Symphony II

Yes, I am a heretic.

Oilyrags, Sunday, 30 September 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I swear that I didn't see this before I started my Symphony II poll, I was just walking around all afternoon with that song on repeat is what happened. Totally by coincidence. OR FATE!

Oilyrags, Sunday, 30 September 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

I can't recall if I've mentioned it before around here, but I had this idea that the members of the Juice Crew could be correlated to the members of the Wu.

BDK=Method Man - hardocre, but with a weakness for loverman ballads
Biz=ODB - the really bugged out one
Marley=RZA - the producer who sometimes raps but really shouldn't
Kool G Rap= Raekwon - the one with the real-seeming gangster/drug stories
Craig G=GZA - basic no-gimmick flow, but really polished and to the point
Master Ace= Ghostface - the more thoughtful one, underrated at first but eventually the longest lasting and fan favorite

It's kind of a stretch and falls way apart after that, but fuck it.

Oilyrags, Sunday, 30 September 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

voted for "Just Rhymin' With Biz" to show it some love, although "aint no half stepppin'" is probly the best of the bunch

Romeo Jones, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

lol you were real hi huh xpost

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

Gee, what gave you that idea?

Oilyrags, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:13 (eighteen years ago)

:D :D :D

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

BDK=Method Man - hardocre, but with a weakness for loverman ballads

lol you've never listened to method man obv.

am0n, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

Forcing corollaries to Wu-Tang members is a yawnsome thing to do.

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

> lol you've never listened to method man obv.

Shall I YSI "All I Need" smart guy?

Oilyrags, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)

> Forcing corollaries to Wu-Tang members is a yawnsome thing to do.

Not quite as yawnsome back in 95, the way I remember it.

Oilyrags, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:33 (eighteen years ago)

Using "All I Need" in support an argument of weakness is proving the other guy right, you know. (xp)

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, well in that case U OLD.

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

1 - I don't think you understand what I mean by 'a weakness' here.

2 - No shit. Fetch me my slippers!

Oilyrags, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

All this time and no mention of the greatest rapper of all-time, Roxanne Shanté? This is a man's world.

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 1 October 2007 02:39 (eighteen years ago)

eh 1 track about meth's boo /= "weakness for loverman ballads" when ghostface does 3 or 4 per album and they even sound ballad-y sometimes

so no ones gonna vote the bridge or vapors????

am0n, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:33 (eighteen years ago)

I kinda wanted to vote "Vapors" but "Symphony" supercedes all.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:34 (eighteen years ago)

fuck it i vote 'raw'

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 1 October 2007 09:27 (eighteen years ago)

'droppin science'. but it was close.

stevie, Monday, 1 October 2007 09:40 (eighteen years ago)

this album BLEW MY MIND when i was 17.

stevie, Monday, 1 October 2007 09:40 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

no one likes "the bridge"?!?! my 5 year old son loves singing along to that one in the car. he's even made up remix versions in the house, such as "the cat...the the the the cat the cat".

pipecock, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 01:45 (eighteen years ago)

All this time and no mention of the greatest rapper of all-time, Roxanne Shanté? This is a man's world.

There may only be two or three hundred people in the world who love Shante more than me, but she's hardly outshining the competition on this.

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 11:00 (eighteen years ago)

This damn comp's been on my Slsk wishlist for fucking ages.

Although looking at the tracklist I probably have most of it already.

I will vote for MC Shan.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 11:04 (eighteen years ago)

and what, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

didn't know any of these well enough to vote 'em, except 'chief rocker' but eeeh

blueski, Thursday, 4 October 2007 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

There may only be two or three hundred people in the world who love Shante more than me, but she's hardly outshining the competition on this.

Clearly, I am one of them because I KNOW she smokes ALL competition. There's no ifs, no ands, no buts, or suppose.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 4 October 2007 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

"Roxanne's Revenge" is, like, the tenth best song here, if even that.

The Reverend, Thursday, 4 October 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

'music man' and 'make the music with your mouth' were my second and third choices...

stevie, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

damn it feels good to see people up on it
