initially designed to be training wheels for american high schoolers and college kids interested in that era's alt/indie music, these comps actually have some pretty good stuff on them. sadly rendered obsolete by grunge, like so much else ;_;

anyway, vote for your favorite!

I learned a lot from some of these, but I can't remember which ones had which songs, so I'm just going to arbitrarily vote for Just Say Mao.

this is essential as it is one of the only places you can get nowhere girl by b-movie. also some great tracks including warm leatherette and somebodys guna get their head kicked in.

The first one and the Mao are both good. Replacements/Waits "Date to Church", live Lou Reed "Strawman", 12" version of "Never Let Me Down", Ice-T "The Hunted Child"...

i'm sympathetic to chaki's argument, esp. in the pre-MP3/iTunes era. even nowadays, it's good for to have all of these songs in one place on one CD/in one iTunes file & as far as classic songs it may be the strongest of all of them. nonetheless, i voted for the 1st one (w/ bugs bunny) partly for sentimental reasons (freshman year in college & all that), and partly b/c i think that just about all of the songs thereon are very strong & many of the best are hard to find anywhere else (esp. the smiths' "work is a four-letter word," the mighty lemon drops' "out of hand," and figures on a beach's "no stars").

also, here are the track listings for each one of these samplers, if folks need them in order make a selection:

Just Say Yes
Just Say Yo
Just Say Mao
Just Say Da
Just Say Anything
Just Say Yesterday
Just Say Roe

I forgot about the last sequence of Just Say Mao, great mix:

"Don't Say No" (remix) - Tom Tom Club
"The Hunted Child" - Ice-T
"Nanana" - Royal Crescent Mob
"Date to Church" - Replacements/Tom Waits
"Nowhere to Stand" - k.d. lang [a cappella]
"Strawman (live)" - Lou Reed
