Several of my least favorite Beatles songs ("All You Need is Love," "Only a Northern Song).

Vote: "Hey Bulldog" (woof, woof).

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 6 October 2007 12:54 (seventeen years ago)

Baby You're A Rich Fag Jew.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Saturday, 6 October 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

Has to be "Hey Bulldog" though there was something a little musically prescient about "It's All Too Much."

dlp9001, Saturday, 6 October 2007 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

Voted for "Only a Northern Song." But this movie on mushrooms at the Castro Theater in SF = greatest experience ever.

Joseph McCombs, Saturday, 6 October 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

"All You Need Is Love". Was even on the original version of the soundtrack, which means it makes sense voting for.

"Hey Bulldog" in a walk, but "It's All Too Much" is really fabulous too. One sort of wishes the Beatles had come from a different era of bands, where they could have done a whole EP/album of songs like that and it would have been understood as a genre excursion and not some sort of giant deal. You always feel like there's so much at stake with the precious Beatle LPs, and I guess Yellow Submarine is really the only one that escapes that, by being such an oddity and all. It could have really gotten away with being a 7" of "Hey Bulldog" backed with "It's All Too Much" in the end. Related to all this babble: my belief that the Beatles could have survived if they'd found a contract-filling way to put out solo albums under their own aegis ("The Beatles Present...John Lennon") a la KISS...blah blah blah....

Man, Baby You're A Rich Man and Hey Bulldog are neck and neck here....

I thought I was going to vote "Northern Song" or "It's All Too Much", but I went with "All Together Now". I value it's simplicity. It gets stuck in my head occasionally, but in a good way.

But this movie on mushrooms at the Castro Theater in SF = greatest experience ever.

Back in the acid-eating days, this is the only movie I really grokked on out of any that my friends assured me would be good to watch while tripping.

Me: Hey! I got a ten-strip/gel-tabs/some liquid!
Friends: Have you ever seen "The Wall"/"2001"/"A Clockwork Orange"?

Fuckers.

gotta go with "northern song" -- it was george's "i am the walrus." "bulldog" is nipping at its heels, though. and fuck those goddamn martin pieces. all they showed was that he was at sea (um...no pun intended) without the beatles.

Lawrence the Looter, Sunday, 7 October 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago)

"All Too Much" and "Northern Song" split my Harrison vote, so I went for "Hey Bulldog".

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 7 October 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

fuck those goddamn martin pieces

I really like "Pepperland".

kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 7 October 2007 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

"Hey Bulldog", not counting the songs not on the original soundtrack, and really, not much room here for alternatives. "Only a Northern Song" is truly terrible methinks, down there with "Your Mother Should Know" at the bottom of the Beatles' heap.

Euler, Sunday, 7 October 2007 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

I love "Your Mother Should Know".

musically, Sunday, 7 October 2007 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

Well, your mileage may vary, as they say.

Euler, Sunday, 7 October 2007 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

Can we vote for the awful blue gradient?

Davey D, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

No, you blueness!

kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:56 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 7 October 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

i think "your mother should know" is one of the best things they ever did, and i'm not just being contrary!

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Haven't seen the film in a long time.. Is "Baby You're A Rich Man" actually in there? I know the song was recorded specially for the movie, but was left off the soundtrack.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

Lots of people apparently chose to pick songs that were actually only in the soundtrack and nowhere else.

"Hey Bulldog" obviously isn't a better song than all those classics way down the list, but at least it is nowhere else than on "Yellow Submarine".

The best song only available on that soundtrack is "It's Only a Northern Song" though.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 07:34 (seventeen years ago)

nine years pass...

Excellent homemade video for "It's All Too Much" from ILM's Myonga Von Bontee.

Definitely my favourite song on this album--"Baby, You're a Rich Man"'s close--also one of my two or three favourite by George.
