My favourite Blondie album. Please, do not whip me for not choosing Parallel Lines, I have no problem with that either, but this one is more special as a post-punk artifact, I think. Though I'm sorry I had to include the bonus CD tracks as choices. Not very purist, I know but I couldn't help it. *cheeky grin* If you just want to ignore the bonus
tracks, that's cool, too.

"Dreaming," cause they tell me that it's like free an' shit.

JN$OT, Sunday, 7 October 2007 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

Difficult -- the first half is my favorite Blondie album.

"Union City Blue."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 7 October 2007 14:40 (seventeen years ago)

Don't you know my evil heart wants secretly for Union City Blue to win? But I know the Brits will come and Atomic will beat it, I know. But that's okay. I'll live (*weeps*).

Bimble, Sunday, 7 October 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

"dreaming" is my favorite blondie song and one of my favorite rock n roll drumming songs ever.

tipsy mothra, Sunday, 7 October 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

so many to choose from but "shayla' does it for me.

stirmonster, Sunday, 7 October 2007 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

Yes! Rock and roll drumming. I can get behind that.

Bimble, Sunday, 7 October 2007 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

Hardest part! No, hang on Dreaming. No. Shit. I'll get back to this. There should be some revisionism starting on this thread. Eat to the Beat is way better than parallel lines.

I know, right?, Sunday, 7 October 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

Dreaming.

I always thought the song "Eat to the Beat" was kinda wonky.

dan selzer, Sunday, 7 October 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

"Dreaming" is my favourite Blondie tracks, although I prefer "Parallel Lines" as an entire album.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 7 October 2007 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

Ach, I'm a Plastic Letters partisan. Dreaming, I guess.

I eat cannibals, Monday, 8 October 2007 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

i would probably have said "dreaming" too if i hadn't totally od'd on it. one of the (possibly) top 5 memories of my whole life is going to my first ever concert which was blondie at edinburgh odeon (january 12th 1980 - these things stay with you forever) on the "eat to the beat" tour and them starting off with "dreaming". much as i was in total awe of debbie, clem burke beating hell out of that drum kit with the arrows on the bass drum (a la "atomic video") completely blew my mind and is possibly responsible for a life long obsession with DRUMS.

stirmonster, Monday, 8 October 2007 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

ATOMIC

A B C, Monday, 8 October 2007 06:15 (seventeen years ago)

Atomic is the favourite pop song of all time, maybe. I remember AMG says something like 'it's an inferior version of Heart of Glass'. Whoever wrote that needs to retire, quickly.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Monday, 8 October 2007 07:00 (seventeen years ago)

I can see how in the context of this album though it might not win--it does rather prop up the second side.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Monday, 8 October 2007 07:02 (seventeen years ago)

i always wish there had been an extended, mainly instrumental version of ATOMIC

stirmonster, Monday, 8 October 2007 07:19 (seventeen years ago)

hmmm, personally I thought Atomic much improved in the single edit. So 'Dreaming' gets my vote.

Jeff W, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

Always my fave blondie song.

Wow. No-one else voted for Hardest Part.

I KNEW ATOMIC WOULD CRUSH IT! I JUST KNEW!!!

Bimble, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

Punk Pop 1 Disco 0 :)

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 14 October 2007 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

(And "Union City Blue" scoring high as well means punk pop dominates even more. Good :) )

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 14 October 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

UNION FUCKING CITY BLUE

I was listening to this recently thinking exactly the same thing. It's a contender for my favourite Blondie song and I'm sure if it had been a single it would have been another number one for them.

I like this album, but wouldn't put it above Parallel Lines. Really unsure as what I would have voted for here... both 'Dreaming' and 'Union City Blue' are all-time for me.

Don't think I voted in this but Union City Blue has always been my favourite Blondie song fwiw

Filk Hollins (NickB), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 14:03 (twelve years ago)

Absolutely sterling drumming throughout this record, and it sounds powerful in a way that Autoamerican and The Hunter don't.

I remember reading that Blondie were becoming hardcore drug fiends circa this album, a trend which continued on the following two records.

"Your hair is beautiful" might be my favorite lyric in a pop song.

So Atomic... wow, yes, it's spectacular. Don't think I'd really listened to it before. Disco dream pop.

Alfred, I forwarded your Atomic write-up to a friend who had been deeply skeptical when I included it on a "greatest songs of the past 50 years" playlist. It didn't persuade him, but he at least acknowledged that my opinion was not a cry in the wilderness.
