Funny, 'cause I totally agree: Wattstax is a great album and movie. I don't have Wattstax II, though, and that's probably what this guy should be railing on about.

In some ways his rant reminds me of whats going on in the "Accusation!" thread. In essence that all music critics are tone-deaf frauds who can't deal with "black" music for some reason. Isn't what Anne was accusing the ILM crowd of? Being 'white intellectuals' with no taste in music?

I find the list provided in the response post perversely funny in context.

Is the soundtrack really that great? I figured I was all set with Stax comps after buying those three box sets of singles.

no, it's not all that great. fun flick, though.

it's better than the woodstock album but not as good as the glastonbury album.

It's exactly as good as the Woodstock album, which ain't saying much, but by that point Stax was past their prime (musically, they were at their peak commercially, and might of survived had they not started releasing WAY too many records; ironically the same thing led to SST's downfall - that, and not paying their bands royalties). By the time of WattStax the action had moved down the street to Hi or up the coast to Philadelphia.
