The search is shit. After lookin' through all the subject headings an' not finding what I want I thought we should have this thread were we ask for somethin' we've lost on ILx & can't find an' then some smart cookie can put up a link.

I'm looking fer:

1. Original Pirate Material: Stay Positive

2. The thread where dave q demolished covers albums, the slow, acoustic earnest ones. It was great an' I want to send ti to all my Cat Power lovin' friends.

Lost anything yrself.

N. to thread.

New "Where is the thread where Momus is asked if he likes Hitler?" answers.

david h, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've occasionally wanted to ask about various popsongs I hear on the radio, in order to ID them, but I've never wanted to start a thread simply for that guilty purpose. I'd love a single thread where people just shout out their questions like that. It's all about re- using and re-cycling, ya'll.

the search can only handle (i forget) something like 3500 threads, and it reads them in order down the top level, so the uncat threads are largely omitted from being searched...

AS YOU KNOW we are slowly and diligently archiving (i had a comptuer meltdown on sunday so did nothing this weekend NO APOLOGIES NECESSARY)... if you have a reasonably fast computer the uncat list is no longer anything like so unwieldy, so you should be able to find threads whose titles you remember. Also Google is always worth trying ("Momus - do you like Hitler?" does not seem to have reached google yet, sadly)

This thread is a good idea. I didn't see it till just now. I'm not sure I can help with much as not many of them ring a bell with me.

Here are some Momus/Hitler threads though: Looking back at the easy listening revival
Patrick Bateman, What's On Your Walkman?
Adolf Hitler, What's On Your Walkman?

One day I diligently searched for the thread in which Hanle y posted a picture of Emmanuel Kant and wrote "p.s. look how weird kant looks." I still can't find it, but the moment is lost and I no longer feel the need to see it.

N. to thread - someone was saying about a great Neil Kulkarni dissing of Ned's Atomic Dustbin (?) and re-printed the review - do you know where it is? Or anyone? Was it you? Where were you on the night in question? Do sleep safe and please don't haf nightmares.

Thanks for that "Momus -- do you like Hitler?" thread. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't've known that he was responsible for that "Where'd the cheese go?" Pizza Hut jingle, and I wouldn't have yet another reason to go "argh blech" every time his name is mentioned.

Neil, are you thinking of the S*M*A*S*H interview that Ned used to go on about and then typed up. If so, I have no idea where it is I'm afraid as I don't remember what thread he did it on and neither google nor freefind seem to have indexed it.

N., Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, I am David. Neil Kulkarni is Neil. Neil wrote the review of the band Ned's Atomic Dustbin. Someone on ILx was impressed and relayed the review to us on a thread. Somewhere - but where?

david h(owie), Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ha ha sorry David my brain is in a fuzz after staying up for the boxing last night.

N., Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wow, Nick, it is really nice to see that thread.

Would you plese find the one where people list songs that share the same title but are different songs? I couldn't find it though searching via google or sifting manually through the archives.

Google search: "ned raggett taylor parkes" et voila .

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh yeah - duh. I was thinking it was Neil Kulkarni.

N., Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So where is the Neil Kulkarni review?

Where is that thread about the dance remix of "Boys of Summer"? I think maybe Jess started it but I'm not sure.

Can anyone help me find the thread where (I believe) Chuck explains the mechanics of counting the P&J singles ballots -- how the same song is counted when listed both with and without remix indicators or "featurings", what is done with EPs, etc?

OleM (OleM), Monday, 31 May 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The search is very good, overall. Sometimes you have to try more than one approach.

(I think that when we are dealing with artists with three letter names, or subjects represented by three letter words, we should add something in the thread as meta-data that would be picked up by the search engine. For example: the search engine will not handle "Sun Ra" and I don't think it will handle "Sun-Ra" either. (I can never remember how it handles hyphens.) But if we threw Sunra (even if it's not correct) in a thread on Sun Ra, that would make it easier to find. If I want to look for mentions of Sun Ra, though, what I do now is usually just look under "Arkestra," which will bring up most threads with major Sun Ra content, I think.)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Monday, 31 May 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you any idea how long ago the Chuck Eddy P&J thing was, OleM. I don't really look at P&J threads, so I can't really help, other than to suggest a search that combines

ceddy in the email address field, with

pazz in the keyword one.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 31 May 2004 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(maybe sticking remix or remixes or mixes or featuring into the keywords field as well?)
