The New Hives Album is Wicked

I couldn't find a thread specifially about the new Hives "The Black and White Album", but since it has now leaked, I can tell you that it's great and has the most variety of any Hives record thus far.

Arguably their most cohesive record, but it's still early yet.

What do you guys think ?

Yeah, I also like it, better than 'Tyrannosaurus Hives'.

Definitely. A lot of potential singles on there. "It Won't Be Long" and "T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S" will probably be picked.

what type of variety we talking about?

Oranges and tangerines.

(nb: I haven't heard any of their albums, but I like the couple singles I've heard. I was just making good on the zing assist.)

The Reverend, Saturday, 20 October 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

What is "nb"?

"note well"

I'm looking forward to it. I think I heard a couple of new songs on Myspace (?) Can't remember. But yeah, these dudes bring it. Esp live.

Ha! My undereducated ass thought it stood for "no bother".

The Reverend, Saturday, 20 October 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

Anyways...can anyone tell me what "u & k" means?

The Reverend, Saturday, 20 October 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

Definitely great and way more varied than Tyrannosaurus Hives, but I still might prefer that album's non-stop caffeine blast, too early to tell.

da croupier, Saturday, 20 October 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

Bu "variety", I mean they have a track that's just a 50's organ and drum machine, one with piano and handclaps, a funky Prince-type track (produced by Pharrell, but thankfully not featuring), a track with some cool female vocals on the chorus and a cool 50's type track.

So it's still The Hives, but they at least tryed some new stuff and managed to bring some of their best hooks yet. Great record.

Channeling MC5 energy in Stockholm a couple nights ago. I love how the camera starts shaking like crazy as the crowd goes nuts when the song kicks up full blast. COME ON!

ELO - "Don't Bring Me Down"

http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/music_and_videos/the-return-of-elo-i-mean-the-hives/

Swedish garage rockers The Hives returned this week with an entertaining new video and familiar sounding new song. Have a listen. No, it’s not just you that thinks it sounds a bit like ELO’s 1979 hit Don’t Bring Me Down. Even the Hives do.

“We made the song, and we were really happy with the song,” says singer Pelle Almqvist. “But months later we realised that it sounded a lot like ELO’s ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’, so we contacted Jeff Lynne and basically gave him a cut off the songwriting. It wasn’t intentional though. Somehow subconsciously that ELO track was probably where it came from.”
