I think The Caretaker in particular is making some of the most unique weirdtronica this side of the Ghost Box label. What gives with the cold shoulder?
Also, V/VM S&D...

V/VM: Classic Or Dud?

i'm always happy to talk about v/vm
tbh the stuff of kirby's that i've listened to most are the hacks (the queen mother 45 being my favourite) but some of his original stuff is fantastic too - particularly the fatcat 12" and a couple of the later non-hack 7" singles.. and the "double" album with two different versions of the same stuff is great.
i have the first two caretaker albums but they've not blown me away particularly - is the later stuff more evolved?

having said that i have about 30 v/vm test records and less than a third are real keepers. the 8x7" snooker loopy set is clearly one of the stupidest things i have ever bought

where might I purchase or preview these Caretaker records? they are unfamiliar to me but I like V/VM.

Best V/vm related thing ever = Let The Gorse Be With You by Gorse. Probably my favourite comedy album of all time, although I wouldn't expect anyone who didn't come from Cornwall to necessarily share that view.
The FGTH comp CD that all but put dude out of business is one of my favourite 'rare' things I own. Is the FatCat 12" worth much? I pulled it out the other day and the Third Eye Foundation side holds up pretty well but I doubt I'll be playing it again for a while

I ahve a copy of his "Epic Act" 7", which is Faith No More's "Epic" butchered in satisfying fashion.

lots of downloadables, especially "Theoretically Pure Anterograde Amnesia" and "Stairway To The Stars" which is 7 cds worth of freebies.
V/VM himself did a track a day (and sometimes more) for the whole of 2006, all downloadable from his website. variable quality, yes. (feb14 seemed to be all Caretaker tracks btw - http://brainwashed.com/vvm/micro/vvmt365/months/02/14.htm)

one for sale on discogs.com for 15 euros. so no, not really.

I just WTF'd and looked this up; I think that (a) it's actually by Lesser and (b) I own it, or a version of it, on the Lesser / Kid606 split. (Correct me if i'm wrong tho)

Really love the new Caretaker album, never really clicked with them before. The idea always seemed stronger than the execution but the woozy, anaesthetised feel of the new album finally feels as though it's fulfilling it's promise.

was listening to leyland kirby, while washing the dishes. his music is lovely but, equally, i'm surprised by the level of love for him.

by which i mean, i listen to his leyland kirby and caretaker releases a lot but wonder how he suddenly crept onto end of year highlight lists. actually, thinking about it "lovely" isn't a good description for his music.

I love the Caretaker, but I'm baffled by the fixation on his work by vinyl obsessives.
