I'm just going to listen to my 128kbps rip of Spark and Beacon Block and pretend life goes on

El Tomboto, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

the first-two-track combos on each disc ("little did we know"/"best of stealth" and "enemy haze"/"beacon block") are so killer.

yer right it doesn't sound dated at all - but then no-one did anything else that sounded like it, not even them.

paisley dark kills me every time.

Rico's Helly is killing me right now
straight-up general midi preset acoustic bass and all

El Tomboto, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

and once again I have had too many adult beverages and beacon block is telling me everything I need to know about life

there's a copy in Seattle at Wall of Sound. used, $25. original issue.

this is one of the finest electronic albums ever made. weatherall spans multiple genres and does it in a way that is completely unique.

nine years pass...

Why isn't this still astonishing album in every 90s hipster's all-time list? Sui generis downtempo analogue electro funk, close your eyes and live your hipster fantasy of gangsta low-riding, midnight drive-bys, basement dive bars and smoke grenades from the comfort of your armchair.

Not even the best TLS record of that year:P

Swimming Not Skimming is the one for the bmx jumps outside chippies, and not just because of the Muzique Tropique Remix of Rico's Helly

The In the Nursery remix is the only one I can recall off that. I'll give it another spin.

First time I heard it I thought it sounded really tacky and unpolished (I'd been listening to the Stay Down / Tiny Reminders era) but it really grew on me

Badgers (dog latin), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:37 (seven years ago)

I was partial to Stockwell Steppas EP but this is really good too. I’m bummed I passed up a fairly mint used copy a couple years ago. My copy is battered and ‘well loved’.

I wasn't cool enough to have a bmx or a record player (also I was 23) so I had the cd version with a buncha different mixes. The original tracks have some good atmospherics but much closer to stay down/tiny reminders i.e. tidier beats.
