oh man

Jordan, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

"Dead Souls" - because, admittedly, i found the live Youtube versions with Peter Murphy to be surprisingly enjoyable.

For Love Not Lisa

Just seeing these words together. The only possible response is Green Apple Quick Step.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, I haven't heard this in about 13 or 14 years. I was really, really into this album around the time I first started listening to music. I used to steal it from my older brother all the time, and my local alt-rock-grunge radio station played stuff like this frequently. Didn't this come out around "Natural Born Killers?" That soundtrack got a lot of play, too.

As an 11 year-old I loved everything on this, Pantera and Thrill Kill Kult included. But I remember really digging that Machines of Loving Grace tune.

I really dug on that For Love Not Lisa (who the fuck are they???) tune back in the day.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

(I actually really like the NIN song on this)

The Poison Idea song Pantera cover is one of my fave anti-cop songs!

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

Also Rollins does a way better cover of Ghost Rider on Hot Animal Machine. This version sucks.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

Medicine - Time Baby III

featuring former ilxor Brad Laner, Beck's bass player Justin Meldel-Johnson and my father's old drummer Jim Goodall! and some chick.

chaki, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't know that Pantera song was a cover.

Jordan, Thursday, 8 November 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

Check the thread on the Sugarplatic (his brother's band) -- I know he posted there at some point.

nabisco, Thursday, 8 November 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE, Thursday, 8 November 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

pantera cover is almost exactly the same as the original song! maybe played a bit tighter though.

latebloomer, Thursday, 8 November 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

had to go with the femmes, but there are many good songs on here.

pipecock, Thursday, 8 November 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

The Femmes song is awesome, probably my #2 pick on the album.

HI DERE, Thursday, 8 November 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Milktoast - Helmet I remember being really good, but I also haven't heard this since i could legitimately be referred as a "young man" ;_;

John Justen, Thursday, 8 November 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Now you're an illegitimate young man. Y'bastard.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 November 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

I still love "Burn" by the Cure. It's certainly better than the film itself.

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?"

J0hn D., Friday, 9 November 2007 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

JAMC track is SNAKEDRIVER and is awes

YES. i'm not even a fan but that song is great. they did that on "120 minutes," i think, with a drum machine and it was loud and great and led to my immense disappointment with pretty much all of their recordings.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Friday, 9 November 2007 03:57 (eighteen years ago)

Big Empty is the winner by default - everything else is a bit too death-obsessed teenager for me. (and STP had a lot of really good songs it turns out - never a solid album, but the greatest hits is probably worth $4.50 at the used store)

milo z, Friday, 9 November 2007 04:01 (eighteen years ago)

everything else is a bit too death-obsessed teenager for me

Yeah, that's the first thing I think of when I think of Jane Siberry.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 November 2007 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

Are we voting for best or worst song?

Sundar, Friday, 9 November 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

I voted STP on the idea that we were voting best. I couldn't possibly pick only one if it were worst--oh wait yes I can, "Dead Souls"

Matos W.K., Friday, 9 November 2007 05:34 (eighteen years ago)

it's the worst record but noone said anything about what the worst song on it is.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 9 November 2007 05:39 (eighteen years ago)

brad electric company laner used to post here? shame.

-- El Tomboto, Thursday, November 8, 2007 11:55 AM (10 hours ago)

uh, shame is the right word

911 and future repercussions - in light of so much conspiracy theory

gershy, Friday, 9 November 2007 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

What should I be ashamed of exactly (aside from being on the record in question) ?

brad laner, Friday, 9 November 2007 06:49 (eighteen years ago)

jokes, bruv

gershy, Friday, 9 November 2007 06:55 (eighteen years ago)

latebloomer, Saturday, 10 November 2007 06:01 (eighteen years ago)

Who else voted for Machines of Loving Grace?

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 11 November 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)

I think that was me. I really liked that song when it first came out, and since I sold it, I could only go on the "What did I really like at 15?" metric (or however old I was when I heard it).

At least, I think I voted for it. All these polls tend to blend together for me.

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Monday, 12 January 2009 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

Listened to the whole of it tonight - not bad, especially the Medecine, STP, Jane Siberry, Cure, and JAMC tracks.

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 07:04 (seventeen years ago)

that STP song is the worst track on purple

and boy is that rollins band song ever repetitive and annoying.

about half the songs on this album are pretty good, however

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 07:16 (seventeen years ago)

As an 11 year-old I loved everything on this,
QFT

Its almost as if they're trying to recreate the sound of a drum machine and keyboard. I know, right?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

That Violent Femmes song is really fantastic; I need to see if I still have this (I should somewhere).
