Some people complained about "Different Class" being the weakeast out of their last four. So here's my favourite album by Pulp polled then.

Voted "Lipgloss" because "Razzmatazz" (which is better) isn't on my version of the album.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 12 November 2007 02:03 (eighteen years ago)

pink glove, forever and always

electricsound, Monday, 12 November 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

This one's easy. Lipgloss is the second-best, sure, but "David's Last Summer" is arguably the finest thing Pulp ever did (and there's some stiff competition).

Brilliant album, mind. If I'd heard this when it came out, then heard DC, I'd have described the latter as an enormous disappointment.

Razzmatazz isn't on my version either, I thought it was only on Intro?

It's my favourite out of those songs but I didn't choose it for the same reason, went for Acrylic Afternoons instead.

welcome to my world

Only included on the American version. It was listed in the Wikipedia article, though, and I chose to include it because it's a great, great, great song. Perhaps their greatest ever IMO.

pink glove is like the hugest song ever. it gets my vote.

t0dd swiss, Monday, 12 November 2007 04:00 (eighteen years ago)

I've never heard "Razzmatazz" either, but judging from the feedback I wish I had.

Voted for "Babies." A flurry of emotions in the chorus alone, chanting "YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH" to wanting to give a girl children, and not declaring, but pondering, you might be my girlfriend. Fabulous song. Also, I don't believe anyone who says they haven't dreamed of the same situation happening to them.

Terrific album. It tends to get overlooked in light of the deservedly praised Different Class, but I play it more often.

Babiezzzzzzzzz

I voted for David's Last Summer, with Babies a very close second.

Daniel Giraffe, Monday, 12 November 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

Acrylic Afternoons.

Best Britpop album by miles.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

every single song on this album is godlike. i don't think i've ever anticipated an album quite as much as i did this one. i've also not heard it in ages (christ, how often do i type that?) and really, desperately want to. fucked if i'm digging out the vinyl ... where's me SSX?

this was my leaving-home record, really. this and the french disko 10", heh. inextricably bound up with a time of ESCAPE ... yet knowing that ultimately you can never escape yourself ... god, i loved it.

that said: although i've voted for it, i was actually ever-so-slightly disappointed by pink glove on this album; the peel session version that preceded it (and is now available on the PS album, hurrah) was oddly, indefinably superior: edgier, spindlier, harder.

david's last summer would be my second choice.

I was impressed by "Pink Glove" aka "Right first time" when I heard it as part of a live TV performance (oh you know, Gary Crowley, late night ITV), and as I haven't got this album, I vote that one.

I've got 10 mins, haven't i?

DYRTFT > Pink Glove.

ledge, Monday, 19 November 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

But David's Last Summer > DYRTFT probably.

ledge, Monday, 19 November 2007 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

the anticipation is enormous

glad to see that "she's a lady" got a vote. love that one.

Shame Joyriders got 0....great song. Brilliant album.

Mister Craig, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

Every song except possibly "Someone Like The Moon" deserves votes.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

not surprised about babies; delighted by pink glove.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

Shit, I missed this poll (and would have voted for "Pink Glove"). I'm surprised that nobody voted for "Happy Endings". And come on, "Babies" is like the 8th or 9th best track on the album.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

actually: "babies" wasn't even on the original vinyl, was it? thought there was something weird about it when i was listening to it this morning.

shock OMG-i-forgot-this-brilliance track: have you seen her lately. if i'd listened to the album before voting, it might have clinched it.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 11:41 (eighteen years ago)

(o, and someone like the moon is wonderful, too!)

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sad I missed this. My vote for PG would have landed it in first place. Boo.

ENBB, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

I can't remember if I voted in this or not, but Pink Glove is far and away the best song here.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

oh, love "she's a lady"...selling pictures of herself to german businessmen, well that's all she wants to do cmon cmon

bell_labs, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, grimly. it took me quite a few spin-thrus of this album to recognize the brilliance of "have you seen her lately?". there's just a lot going on with that song and it's really all a bit to take in at once. great lyrics, great sound, great structure on that one. shame it got no votes.

i voted "lipgloss".
