1) Teardrop Explodes - when asked, Julian Cope replied: Would you ever return to having your mother wipe your asshole?

Kim Tortoise, Monday, 12 November 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)

The Smiths, obviously and unfortunately

nate woolls, Monday, 12 November 2007 12:55 (eighteen years ago)

I think Paul Weller once said he'd rather see his children starve than reform the Jam.

nate woolls, Monday, 12 November 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

Dead Kennedys

I'm getting deja vu about this thread.

Colonel Poo, Monday, 12 November 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

yeah

What Acts Will NEVER REUNITE!

loads of wrong guesses there though.

StanM, Monday, 12 November 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

Pink Floyd.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 12 November 2007 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

The Ike & Tina Turner Revue

StanM, Monday, 12 November 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

Zeno, Monday, 12 November 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

Pink Floyd.

WRONG, most of all because they're NOT all alive

Just got offed, Monday, 12 November 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

Well. 70s Pink Floyd then.
But even when Syd was alive, a fully flegded reunion of the 1967 lineup was even less likely.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 12 November 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think the Police reunion was really as huge as contemplated in the original thread, was it?

The Sisters Of Mercy 1984-1985

(On the other hand, now The Mission is finished...) (Naaah, still never.)

StanM, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

Talk Talk

Thread = won. More to the point, this is probably ahead of all others the one band that SHOULDN'T get back together. Listen to those last 40 seconds of "Runeii" and tell me that isn't intentionally *the end*.

Just got offed, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Husker Du

The Replacements (with Chris Mars)

kornrulez6969, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

The Fall. Any previous lineup, but especially ones in which band members came to blows.

dad a, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

Stormtroopers of Death.

after the ignorant shit Billy Milano said, I doubt it'll ever happen

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

The Misfits and Operation Ivy, both of which i would have loved to have seen.....

pipecock, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, the Misfits definitely seems likely too, but something tells me it could be manufactured for a one night only type thing if the money is right.

Glenn Danzig is a killer vocalist but he's an asshole and a hypocrite so it wouldn't surprise me.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

Smashing Pumpkins (Iha/Wretzky)

StanM, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

R.E.M. with Bill Berry (for longer than a couple of songs)

StanM, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

Jellyfish.

The Replacements

Bob Stinson RIP

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

Jeez, nobody's mentioned XTC yet? To complicate things, I'm including Terry Chambers. I could complicate them further by including Barry Andrews, but I won't.

Sara Sara Sara, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

the original modern lovers reuniting seems fairly unlikely ... not that there seems to be a ton of bad blood, but it's hard to imagine Jonathan Richman going back to that material. And speaking of Jerry Harrison's old bands, Talking Heads probably are not going to reunite.

tylerw, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

R.E.M. with Bill Berry (for longer than a couple of songs)

Disagree. This tour will happen within ten years.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 12 November 2007 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

but it's hard to imagine Jonathan Richman going back to that material.

oh I dunno, I've seen him do Pablo Picasso and Old World and Roadrunner as recently as a couple years ago. I think it's more that he doesn't like playing with a band, really. He's pretty freewheeling onstage in a way that's pretty impossible for a full band to follow, and that's a big part of his appeal.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

oh, i didn't realize that he was doing those songs again -- thought he had pretty much disowned that stuff. I haven't seen him in about five years or so. hey, it would be a cool reunion!

tylerw, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

"I dunno, the Misfits definitely seems likely too, but something tells me it could be manufactured for a one night only type thing if the money is right.

i feel like the other band members have massive problems with him, and it seems like if it was all gonna be worked out, it would have been years ago. and at what point would them getting back together not really matter anyway? theyve gotta be getting close to that point, that music has so much energy and theyre getting olddddddddddddddd

pipecock, Monday, 12 November 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

galaxie 500

electricsound, Monday, 12 November 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

Disagree. This tour will happen within ten years.

OTM. I'd put money on it happening within the next five years. R.E.M. still owe Warners massive piles of cash, their studio records don't sell, and their "greatest hits" tour wasn't the bail-out profile-raiser it was supposed to be. All they have left is the "reunion" tour. Of all the bands on this list, R.E.M. are probably the most likely to reform.

Sara Sara Sara, Monday, 12 November 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

None of them, apparently - although Husker Du, Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys seem like the longest shots.

Why is DNA such a long shot? What happened to Tim Wright?

These Robust Cookies, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

Why is DNA such a long shot? What happened to Tim Wright?

Not sure what Tim s'been up to nowadays. I can't see it though. Perhaps I'm wrong. May I add even if any of these groups DID reform, I wouldn't/couldn't be bothered to go 'see' them. Reformations are almost always never any good. Some things are better left a memory of sorts...

Now if Feelies/Trypes/Yung Wu/Willies, etc. reformed I'd have to reevaluate aforementioned reformed band theory.

@, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 06:13 (eighteen years ago)

Outkast.

(although there are rumours about the EitS ATP)

aldo, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

Reformations are almost always never any good.

People always say this, but I've had mostly positive experiences watching reformed bands, even if I had already seen them 1st time round.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Reformations may work live, but with a few exceptions (Aerosmith, Steely Dan and weird enough Kula Shaker) recording new material is rarely a good idea for a reformed band.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

Spacemen 3 OTM.

My Bloody Valentine has reunited:

marzoni, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

OTM about Uncle Tupelo - this is gonna happen in a few years, I predict.

mike a, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

Any band where one of the members has turned to religion - or at least a religion that discourages secular pop culture. Palmolive (Slits/Raincoats) comes to mind first, of course.

I don't think a Dolly Mixture reunion is completely out of the cards, btw - all three members live near each other and seem civil enough. (Disclaimer: this is in no way me being coy, I have no inside info.)

mike a, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

looks like the Raincoats are out too, I know they reformed once but it was without a key member and that member's songs actually got LEFT OFF of the reissue of "Moving" on CD.

didn't X-Ray Spex reunite briefly?

sleeve, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

and Sun City Girls = dead drummer, so keep 'em out of this thread.

sleeve, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

King Crimson, version 1.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think the Police reunion was really as huge as contemplated in the original thread, was it?

-- Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, November 12, 2007 10:57 AM (Yesterday) Bookmark Link

huh? it's supposedly the top grossing tour of the year so far. might not have much of a buzz among music fans under 40 (I mean I love the old records, but honestly the new arrangements they're playing seem like they'd make for a crappy show), but i'd say it's still pretty damn huge.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

I think X-Ray Spex reunited WITHOUT Poly Styrene, right?

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

Great idea that was, huh?

Tom D., Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

I would have said Comus, but they ARE! They're playing on a boat in Sweden (i think) in March. If I had approximately $2,000 to blow on something, this would be it.

Andi Mags, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

Chameleons

:(

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

Chameleons

I spoke to Mark Burgess last year on his short US tour with BIRD/Yves Atlana, and based on that conversation alone, I wouldn't say it's 100% not ever going to happen again.

stephen, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think a Dolly Mixture reunion is completely out of the cards, btw - all three members live near each other and seem civil enough. (Disclaimer: this is in no way me being coy, I have no inside info.)

true. i guess i don't know why they would ever bother as long as their back catalogue is entirely unavailable though

electricsound, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

xpost, MBV: I'll believe it when I see it, and so will you...

Are all of the Jackson Five alive?

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

"Are all of the Jackson Five alive?

-- Finefinemusic"

Lamar and Jamal are dead.

pipecock, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

ELO, the real thing, not "Jeff Lynne with a bunch of hired hands, featuring a special appearance by Richard Tandy." Some of those "hired hands" may have been Beatles, but no Bev Bevan, no ELO (or Move, either, though Carl Wayne being dead is a bigger factor).

drench, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 02:04 (eighteen years ago)

"Selling England by the Pound"-era Genesis, although I'd love it if they did
