You should have included Marc Bolan for being there on the shirt.

filthy dylan, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

don't make me start another poll

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Prince only cooks strawberries, chocolate, and champagne.

The Reverend, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

Needs John Cougar Mellencamp as a fifth option

Dom Passantino, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Well I read in an interview that Iggy does a good steak with peppercorns. Prince would probably get one of his minions to cook something. Lou I can see eating hot dogs bought from a street vendor. Bowie I have no idea.

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Although I voted for Lou, because a hot dog would go down well right now.

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

uh

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

don't forget, prince does pancakes too

circles, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

and cream!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

iggy would probably bleed on whatever he was cooking

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

that would not be tasty

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

can bowie, iggy or lou ball as well as prince? maybe lou -- he is from NYC after all.

Eisbaer, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

But which of them would have the most successful George Foreman style kitchen appliance? I vote for Iggy Pop's Giant Sausage... Making Machine.

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

haha, some visual and written evidence that lou is a baller!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

Lou strikes me as the most cooking-oriented personality - Bowie's too busy eating weird shit at expensive restaurants, Prince is on some snooty neo-vegan bullshit that probably is terrible, and Iggy's too WILD to spend time in the kitchen. Lou, however, has the perverse maternal streak - I can picture him whipping up brunch in his bathrobe while reading the NYT and complaining about the art show he went to last night.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

WOAH @ Lou's ladyfriend

The Reverend, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

Thank fuck for that, Eisbaer, I thought that by "balling" you meant sex, and I was thinking "who the fuck says 'balling' anymore?". Yeah, but Lou loves his basketball though - his primary reason for giving up smoking was that it affected his playing.

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

I think all of these guys would be so incredibly railed on cocaine that they wouldn't eat for a very, very long time. And then when they did it would probably be like a piece of white bread or something.

filthy dylan, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

this is so obviously bowie.

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 November 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

Bowie's too busy eating weird shit at expensive restaurants

true story: i used to work at the AXA Tower in the Theater District. there's some obscenely expensive/chichi French restaurant on the ground floor -- one night, when i was going home i saw a bunch of limos outside the restaurant. one of the building security people told me that there was some sort of benefit going on there that night, and guess who was one of the guests at said benefit -- yup, david bowie.

Eisbaer, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

like im sure iggy has only eaten spaghetti-o's and corn flakes for the past 15 years. i wouldn't trust him w/ a meal.

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 November 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

Bowie's coke diet - milk, coke, red & green peppers. Fortunately that was back in the 70's.

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

I bet Prince will still throw down on some bbq from time to time.

Jordan, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

he's been known to host them -- and softball games.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

like im sure iggy has only eaten spaghetti-o's and corn flakes for the past 15 years. i wouldn't trust him w/ a meal.

maybe up till the early/mid 80s -- iggy's too buff these days to be living offa that kinda diet. that said, i wouldn't trust him w/ a meal either -- he probably eats lotsa energy bars.

Eisbaer, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

I read once that Bowie's favourite food is osso bucco, although whether he can make it himself is another matter

DJ Mencap, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

I bet Bowie makes great Thai.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

Iggy was into eating at every Japanese restaurant he could find back in da early '80s--this according to an ancient Creem magazine interview.

JN$OT, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

Iggy was macrobiotic for a bit, too. He's no knuckle-dragger.

sexyDancer, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

i hope we are all voting

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, it's gotta be la Bowie for me--even though Iggy once said that Dave was all man; whereas Jim was a...er...real woman. Man, I really fuckin' miss my Creem back-issues.

JN$OT, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

Iggy was macrobiotic for a bit, too.

Ironically that was around the time of the Stooges first album, which Lenny Kaye called "the music of punks cruising for burgers".

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

Iggy might forget and wipe his ass with his dinner

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

prince's private cook was catering to all the fans during his all nite jazz jams at the recent roosevelt hotel shows

-- chaki, Monday, November 12, 2007 6:07 PM

i misread this

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

There was a story about Madonna going to see Prince about a collaboration or something, and when she arrived there was a huge meal that Prince's chef had put out. So Madge is stuffing her face and she notices that Prince is just sitting there, so she says "aren't you gonna eat anything?" and he's like [tiny Prince voice] "no". So I think the chef is there to feed all of the musicians in his band.

Someone that I just thought of: John Lennon. Because during those five years didn't he do all the cooking? I read somewhere that he really got into cooking, even baking his own bread.

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

Thought this thread title read "who would win in a coke-off" in which case the answer would be Sly Stone.

Sparkle Motion, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

speaking about basketball (and pace that charlie murphy skit on chappelle), prince as a teenaged balla:

Jordan, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

Look at the guy on the far left back row, seems like Prince wasn't even shortest on the team!

snoball, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

I misread this title as "cock-off," which probably would have been more interesting. Cross swords gentlemen!

jonathan - stl, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

who would win in a cock-off: bowie, iggy, lou or Prince?

Jordan, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

Excerpts from <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/11098046.html";>this</a> article in the Philadelphia Enquirer:

In some ways, this marriage of bands and cooking is a natural convergence. "For me, there's a huge connection between music and food, down to how the music affects the very dining experience," says Joe Kim, owner of Bistro B, a personal-chef service, and drummer with the High Lives. "Creatively, they tap into the same vein."

"I was surprised to find that so many bands I talked to really liked to cook," says Zuaro. "Twenty minutes after I contacted him, John Darnell from the Mountain Goats wrote me a three-page essay of favorite foods he makes for his wife when he comes back from tour."

And despite the added aura of rock-stardom, not every musician makes an appealing chef, says local chef and musician Kim: "I wouldn't eat Lou Reed's recipes. But I'd eat David Bowie's."

Man, Lou looks like he still gets haircuts from his mom.

I can only hope that there's a biopic made about him, and William H. Macy plays him.

I have it on good authority that prince makes a mean stack of pancakes.

rogermexico., Sunday, 18 November 2007 07:09 (eighteen years ago)

haha I read this as "who would win in a COKE-off...", which makes sense given the choices

Malcolm Money, Sunday, 18 November 2007 07:39 (eighteen years ago)

Aside from some uncorroborated evidence that he was indulging around '96, Prince is pretty famous for not doing drugs. As far as cooking, I'll vote Bowie.

Matos W.K., Sunday, 18 November 2007 07:50 (eighteen years ago)
