sorry but 08/10

resolved, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

by a mile...

resolved, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

it's gotta be "orange mistake" by a mile! ;)

tricky, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

or solomon's prayer, or even harissa or tips

lucas pine, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

yeah runners up are 01, 06, 11. harissa and tips don't even get a look in

resolved, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

etudes electronique came out today btw :)

resolved, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

all of those are really good, too. xpost.

i would also add the salif ketia remix and the second NSI. there are a bunch of these i haven't heard as well.

tricky, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

I thought this would be a poll about, you know, cadenzas...

Jordan, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

6 for one login, 8/10 for the other

jergïns, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

13's got A Chico A Rhytmico on it which is unimpeachable goodness. damn split vote!

jergïns, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 23:41 (eighteen years ago)

09, clearly 09. achso = the pitchfork vote

, Thursday, 15 November 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

tough. orange mistake or salif keita.

stirmonster, Thursday, 15 November 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

salif keita gets the vote.

stirmonster, Thursday, 15 November 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

09 for me too

jabba hands, Thursday, 15 November 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)

OCTOGONAL PEOPLE.

but yeah, 06 and 09 if i could split. chose 06.

the table is the table, Thursday, 15 November 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for 06 (BOMBERO'S PEOPLE) but really this needs a ranking:

1. 06
2. 08
3. 01
4. 02
5. 09
6. 13
7. 11
8. 04

Tim F, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:03 (eighteen years ago)

Voted for 09 - not really for the Salif Keita remix, but for the harmonica and wailing of "Harmonic Crashes".

Jedmond, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

i ended up going with 09 as well.

tricky, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

i wonder if the new luciano will be anything like the last one he did on perlon. i love that record, but i know some folks here don't/didn't rate it.

tricky, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

the reason i love it is because the day i bought it a friend came over and it was late and we were drunk, playing records and hanging out. i couldn't play it too loud, but it was definitely not quiet even though it is record with lots of space. my neighbors came home and they were having a little party, too, and the sound of their party wafted up to my place. that sound mixed with the song and my friend and i just looked at each other mouths agape because it was the most perfectly balanced "surround sound" moment. "is that ... the record??"

hard to describe and just bizarre. it makes me wonder if he did it on purpose.

tricky, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:31 (eighteen years ago)

I feel guilty about that 12" - never heard it except at work on little head phones. Looking at the poll list was about to say it was about time Luciano released something else via Cadenza - then realised "No Model No Tool" had been ignored (semi-justifiably). Anybody actually heard "Études Électroniques"?

Jedmond, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:44 (eighteen years ago)

'no model no tool' is actually kind of awesome sonically. just not really beat-wise.

the table is the table, Thursday, 15 November 2007 03:20 (eighteen years ago)

I meant semi-justifiably as in it was released on a sub-label, not Cadenza proper. Wasn't meaning to impugn the release.

Jedmond, Thursday, 15 November 2007 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

i love the luciano mix of "clara ghavami". when i first heard it i was sure it had to be some long lost mid-90s minimal detroit classic.

has anyone noticed how many labels ripped off the cadenza graphic design this year? in my room right now i can count records on delsin, innervisions, horizontal, liebe detail, and ostgut ton that have that digital floral design on the sleeve, i'm sure there is more

r1o natsume, Thursday, 15 November 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

digital floral = this decade's fractals?

stirmonster, Thursday, 15 November 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

all those producers are using 808s. they must be ripping each other off ;)

tricky, Thursday, 15 November 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

Achso.

jim, Thursday, 15 November 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

Tim F style ranking:

1. 08/010
2. 06
3. 11
4. 09
5. 02

Haven't heard a bunch of the more recent ones.

jim, Thursday, 15 November 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

Oh noes, I've missed Harissa from the top 5. Those were my on-the-bus-to-work-jams for about six months.

jim, Thursday, 15 November 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

Not really digitial but I suspect 240 Volt's marvellous 12 inch sleeves circa 2002 may have had an influence.

And then there's the Pop Ambient compilation covers...

Tim F, Friday, 16 November 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)

i only have 6, 11, and 12, but after seeing this poll i listened to 'orange mistake' and WOW! now to find a copy...

Bombero's / Octogonal is great also.

one time, Friday, 16 November 2007 02:52 (eighteen years ago)

Orange Mistake - Bomberos - Yamoré - Father. all Luciano, all the time.

blunt, Friday, 16 November 2007 09:01 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm.. I don't know these. I prefer 'Let's Do It' by Kadenza

dubmill, Friday, 16 November 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

except you haven't heard any of them so your preference is meaningless

braveclub, Friday, 16 November 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I probably have heard some of them, actually. I should have said I don't remember them, rather than I don't know them.

dubmill, Friday, 16 November 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

So still meaningless then.

jim, Friday, 16 November 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

the new luciano is IMMENSE!! i feel rather stupid for leaving it off now

r1o natsume, Friday, 16 November 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 19 November 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

achso = the pitchfork vote
hahaha. lotsa good ones here, 'orange mistake' really is a treat and a half though.

haitch, Monday, 19 November 2007 02:47 (eighteen years ago)

too much greatness to pick from - between orange mistake, achso, the yamore remix, solomon's prayer and even pikaya's 'kambrium' (which i heard for the first time a couple days ago and really like), it's near impossible... i'm going for 'prayer' for now, for some reason.

jermainetwo, Monday, 19 November 2007 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

is cadenza the most consistent label ever?

jermainetwo, Monday, 19 November 2007 06:35 (eighteen years ago)

for a label with such a comparatively small catalogue, certainly.

the table is the table, Monday, 19 November 2007 07:01 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah "Kambrium" is massive as well. So is "Madre Tierra".

Tim F, Monday, 19 November 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Not a bad result, except that "Stone Age" is consistently underrated.

Tim F, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

stone age and amael are both killer tracks, agreed.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 01:18 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

reboot's "letters"!! (especially the doomy, synth pile-up build up fakeout release)

jermainetwo, Thursday, 10 January 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

so my shortlist is something like this (in no order)

luciano & quennum - orange mistake/funky dandy
nsi - clara ghavami/luciano remix
luciano & serafin - funk excursion
luciano - bombero's/octoganol
digitaline - honolulu
petre inspirescu - tips
schneider/galuzzi/schirmacher - albertino and nora p (very strong candidate for best thing released on this label)
reboot - be tougher/letters
carl craig/villalobos remixes of mirko loko
luciano - etudes electroniques

who can tell me what i'm missing? any glaring omissions from the last year and a half or so?

that habit kick man (r1o natsume), Sunday, 15 August 2010 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

I guess the obvious ones that would be at the top of my list (and this poll) are:

Luciano - Yamore Rmx / Harmonic Crashes
Ricky V - Achso

Luc. and Melchior - Solomon's Prayer/Father

I'm also partial to Frivolous - My Consciousness, and Alex Picone - Floppy

I'm banishing you to a time warp from which you will never return (EDB), Sunday, 15 August 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i completely forgot about achso! was never really into solomon's prayer, but yeah floppy is pretty good. will check out the frivolous
