Destroy... ALL OF IT!!

Sorry, just kidding.

Sean, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd go with that.

Search: all of it.

Would this be the ROCK answer then? I can't keep up.

search: ok computer, kid a, amnesiac

destroy: most of the bends, pulk/pull revolving doors

matt, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Just doing songs because albums would be too easy (everything but half of Pablo Honey and a third of the Bends).

Search (three from each album and b-sides): Stop Whispering, Thinking About You, Lurgee, Just, My Iron Lung, Black Star, Talk Show Host, Airbag, Exit Music, No Surprises, National Anthem, Idioteque, Morning Bell, Pyramid Song, Revolving Doors, Life in a Glass House, Fog, Worrywort

Destroy: How Do You?, Anyone Can Play Guitar, Pop Is Dead, Nice Dream, Paranoid Android (but the video stays), Lucky, In Limbo

I'm actually very attached to it all. Even what I don't like.

search- post ok. destroy- pre ok.

tyler, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If anything is the dividing line between the two 'phases' of Radiohead, surely it would be "Pop is Dead."

Am currently listening to a quite good bootleg from the American tour last summer, actually. As with them Pumpkins, the thing everyone forgets is that between songs the bandmembers are usually being cut- ups.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Does anyone know who or what sleepy Jack the firedrill is?

What's that one song that sounds exactly like Dust in the Wind?

Kris, Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Search: The Bends, Kid A, OK Computer, Amnesiac, songs off Pablo Honey that are good ("Creep", "Anyone can Play Guitar", "Thinkin' About You")

Destroy: Most of Pablo Honey and I Might Be Wrong. Some crap songs off good albums, see "Dollars and Centzzz..." and "Bullet Proof (I wish I wazzzz...)

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Search: In particular: Street Spirit, Sulk, Black Star, Let Down, The Tourist, Airbag, Like Spinning Plates, Pyramid Song, How Can You Be Sure, Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong, The Trickster, and one of the remixes of Planet Telex whose name I just don't remember. If I _must_ take something from Kid A, then Morning Bell and Everything In Its Right Place.

Destroy: Idioteque, any B-sides NOT from The Bends era (especially the Amnesiac ones), Idioteque, Fitter Happier, Idioteque, Bulletproof, Idioteque, Idioteque and also Idioteque. Sorry, I just really hate that song and I have no idea why.

EdwardO, Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Because it's crap, by any chance?

My flatmate and I once listened 'blind' to an NME comp that had 'Idioteche' on it. We thought it was far and away the worst thing on the disc - horrible horrible singing - but had no idea who the feck it was by (we thought it sounded a bit like that Joe Crow track on 'Pillows and Prayers'!) Boy were we smug when we checked the tracklisting - yes Radiohead really ARE that bad!

Andrew L, Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That Joe Crow track is awesome though!!!

Tom, Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Joe Crow? Oh, and "Idioteque" rules, nyah.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Search - The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, "Creep", "Like Spinning Plates". Destroy - none of it - natch, some of it isn't very good, but I can't think of anything they've done that I would gladly vaporise, especially if you look at their whole career as over- compensating for "Creep" or over-compensating for every release before the next one.

Damian, Saturday, 27 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Joe Crow - "Compulsion". Post-punk minimalism. You know the song, Ned, it was covered on Martin Gore's solo record (!) (which I bought second-hand purely to hear the Joe Crow cover).

Tom, Saturday, 27 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah! I do indeed know the song, and have been wanting to hear the original. *mutters quiet request for upload somewhere, please*

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 27 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If I had an mp3 I would - but I don't think my copy of Pillows and Prayers plays any more (a cheapo old cassette), and the 7" I bought of the song is scratched. I'm going to finally download Audiogalaxy today though and we'll see what that turns up.

Tom, Saturday, 27 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Search : Idioteque, Paronoid Android , Lucky, All of the bends lp,

Destroy : Most of Amnesiac and about half of Pablo Honey

Steven Whelan, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cool anecdote...I went to a great jazz bass player's senior recital, and he played this amazing piece on upright creating real time loops with effects and creating great harmonies over them, while his little sister did spoken word. One of our friends asked him to explain those interesting harmonies and resolutions to him, and the bass player was just like, "oh yeah, all that stuff is from Radiohead..."

Jordan, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

two years pass...
There will be a great photo of Joe Crow recording the piano part of Going Through the Motions in November's release of The Prefects are Amateur Wankers on Acute Records. He was of course a member of the Prefects and early Nightingales prior to cutting that single.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 16 August 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
if anyone needs an mp3 still of Compulsion, email me... will happily trade for more info on Joe Crow's history/career/discography

winter testing (winter testing), Sunday, 19 March 2006 11:35 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

Is there a poll thread for these tools? I feel like I need to make my feelings about which album is the least bad known, but I need to do it anonymously.

caek, Sunday, 7 December 2008 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

Why don't you just tell us which one of these tools albums are least bad?

Z S, Sunday, 7 December 2008 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

I had them all except HTTT on my iTunes until last week, but my housemate _really_ likes them and kept playing them after he got of the phone with his awful girlfriend, so I decided to delete them. I kept Amnesiac for biographical/nostalgic reasons. I can't tell if it's any good, but that's the one I dislike the least.

caek, Sunday, 7 December 2008 02:43 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, what kind of 27 year old listens to OK Computer at 3am in 2008?

caek, Sunday, 7 December 2008 02:44 (seventeen years ago)

search: all except amnesiac
destroy: amnesiac

redmond, Sunday, 7 December 2008 02:45 (seventeen years ago)

xp dude he was probably 16-17 when it came out, has certain ties to his youth etc

k3vin k., Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

Agreed with Redmond, except I would save "Pyramid Song" on Amnesiac. A good portion of HTTT can be destroyed as well.

youcangoyourownway, Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:29 (seventeen years ago)

I was absolutely OBSESSED with this band like crazy when I was a kid. Bought all the singles, the t-shirts, taped their videos on MTV, everything. Then they made Kid A.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:45 (seventeen years ago)

...and now you love them even more!?

k3vin k., Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:52 (seventeen years ago)

Kid A was good. Really good. Album of the year, in fact. But the magic was gone. It just wasn't the same. They didn't even make any cool videos for it. It was like, "This is a really great album with a lot of great songs" rather than "OMGWTFTHIS... BAND... IS... SO... FUCKING... AMAZING!!!!!"

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

destroy most of kid a, most of amnesiac, some of ok computer, some of httt

search all of in rainbows, the bends, half of pablo honey

Matt P, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

::)

k3vin k., Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

i might be interested in knowing what the results of an ilm in rainbows poll would be

Lingbert, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

search and destroy? well, pretty much everyone agrees that the bends, ok computer, and kid a are all amazing and pablo honey is a piece of dogshit.

so, search:
that live version of "how to disappear completely" where thom says, "this next song is a benefit for the bootleggers. this song is called... if we get it right, this song is called 'how to disappear completely and never be found'"
the "my iron lung" ep
all their videos up to and including ok computer (oh holy god yes search)

destroy:
"dollars and cents"
the itch ep
"like spinning plates"
most of hail to the thief
all their videos after ok computer :(

haven't heard:
in rainbows

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

speaking of bootlegs, search the early version (from 1996 or 97, I think) of Nude that had the melody doubled by Jonny on the glockenspiel.
My Iron Lung EP is pretty good, but Airbag/How Am I Driving is the one for me. Fantastic EP.

A lot of HTTT songs had extra legs when performed live, especially Myxomatosis.

Dude, you should hear In Rainbows, really!

Z S, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:21 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, i never expected to really love the band again, but in rainbows caught me off guard. i also agree that airbag/how am i driving? is pretty great.

Matt P, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

they're so much better when they're not 'serious'

Matt P, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:25 (seventeen years ago)

destroy:
their awful pretentious album covers and liner notes

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah in rainbows = unexpectedly great

redmond, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:32 (seventeen years ago)

does it sound a lot like hail to the thief? because i was really turned off by hail to the thief.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:35 (seventeen years ago)

no

k3vin k., Sunday, 7 December 2008 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

mr. snrub i think you'd love it

Matt P, Sunday, 7 December 2008 06:23 (seventeen years ago)

In Rainbows is SOLID. Nothing like the thrown together disorganized crap that was HTTT (excepting the transcendent There There, of course).

youcangoyourownway, Sunday, 7 December 2008 06:30 (seventeen years ago)

xp dude he was probably 16-17 when it came out, has certain ties to his youth etc

― k3vin k., Sunday, December 7, 2008 3:08 AM (10 hours ago) Bookmark

Maybe. It's literally the only album he listens to though.

caek, Sunday, 7 December 2008 13:58 (seventeen years ago)

In Rainbows is so much better than HTTT.

Pablo Honey is dogshite.

Amnesiac isn't really worth playing all the way through. Just pick your few fave tracks and you're fine.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 7 December 2008 14:15 (seventeen years ago)

<a href="http://musik.antville.org/stories/258512/";>amnesiac</a> is the only album of theirs i ever feel the need to listen to.

alex in mainhattan, Sunday, 7 December 2008 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

i don't understand people who don't like HTTT.

akm, Sunday, 7 December 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

Indeed, akm.

Turangalila, Sunday, 7 December 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

I like most of what the band did from The Bends to Amnesiac, never heard HTTT, and completely hate In Rainbows and think it's terrible.

The wickerman from the hilarious 'nic cage' movie (some dude), Sunday, 7 December 2008 14:59 (seventeen years ago)

why?

Turangalila, Sunday, 7 December 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

In Rainbows Hail to the Thief is SOLID. Nothing like the thrown together disorganized crap that was HTTT In Rainbows (excepting the transcendent There There Reckoner, of course).

Fixed.

ilxor, Sunday, 7 December 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha. but RONG

k3vin k., Sunday, 7 December 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

hail to the thief>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>in rainbows (tho i might not have given IR enuf time yet)

Hipster Loser-Loser (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 7 December 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

Hail to the Thief has Wolf at the Door, We Suck Young Blood, Myxomatosis, Where I End and You Begin, There There...In Rainbows has, like, The Reckoner.

of course, I'm one of those chaps who went through the whole "OHMIGOD...AMAZING!!!" experience, with Kid A, so...

Hipster Loser-Loser (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 7 December 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

If I could pick just 3: Black Star, Let Down, Where I End and You Begin. When it came out a friend asked me what I thought of OK computer, and I said "Well, I like the sparkly one." He knew which one I meant.

Dr X O'Skeleton, Sunday, 7 December 2008 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

i also went through a "wtf omg" thing with kid a.
but in rainbows is better than httt. not saying that httt is bad or anything. in rainbows is just so damn groovy.

Creeztophair, Sunday, 7 December 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

well i might have m issed something abt in rainbows...it's the first radiohead album i have never owned since pablo honey (get me?)

Hipster Loser-Loser (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 7 December 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

as of now i am convinced that Kid A/Amnesiac/Hail to the Thierf is R.Head's trilogy of killer stuff...
