Wow! Haven't listened/thought about this record in ages.

Gotta go with "Marmalade."

"Dragon Lady". The vocal is kinda stupid, but in all her sputtering she comes across as really angry. I like the gangster imagery of robbing the 7-11 and getting the rock outta town. The song actually rises to a pretty dramatic guitar/vocal climax (the harmonies help a lot here).

I always think of "Lilybelle" as the ultimate Fibbers song, but really I think almost every song on this record is completely awesome. Might vote for "Richard," that's really been my favorite to listen to in recent years.

Lilybelle

Lillybelle, the song that broke up Nels Cline's marriage (eventually).

One more for Lillybelle

Found "The Small Song" on Hype Machine just now, hearing it for the first time in probably 12 years. (Listened to it at a record store but didn't buy it.) (Was probably interested at the time because they sounded like the Dambuilders, LOL.)

this isn't their first album I don't think - isn't What Part Of Get Thee Gone... earlier? Regardless, this is a fantastic album.

that was really just a reissue of their first EP, Get Thee Gone, with a bunch of live and unreleased stuff tacked on, and it came out after Lost.

anyway I'm still puzzling over Nubbelverbrennung's post, since I've never heard of Nels Cline being married and don't understand how a Fibbers song from before he joined the band could've broken it up.

Go look at Nels' old tour diaries on Mike Watt's homepage.

I can respect these results. "The French Song" is awesome, though.

six years pass...

I miss this band, some good 1997 era shows just came up on D1mead0zen.

o yeah? is that from when nels cline was in the band? i saw 'em early on, but don't think he had joined up yet.
for some reason i've lost my copies of their records... i should fix that.

tylerw, Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:14 (eleven years ago)

i grew up in LA and geraldine fibbers and grant lee buffalo were both mid 90s local bands that i just assumed were going to be massive. wrong-o!

tylerw, Thursday, 15 May 2014 19:18 (eleven years ago)

yeah this is one of those bands that juuuuust didn't go as far as they could have. amazing live show, especially in the Nels era

three years pass...

There's a story of a girl so sleepy, she could not be aroused
She was kissed by pigs and doctors all over the land
The birds in the trees came down and landed in her hair
They built a nest and the little birdies hatched it there

Just wrote a gushing 25th anniversary commemoration of the first album.
