am i the last person to buy this? i wish they had been around when i lived in philly. i kinda can't turn it up loud enough. album of the year, obviously. wait, psychedelic horseshit album is album of the year. hmmmm, i'm torn. "non-metal" division obviously.

I've only heard the bonus track (a cover of the Breeders' "Divine Hammer") so far, but I loved it. The singer's angry macho guy shtick in interviews would be tiresome if he wasn't actually pretty funny most of the time. How is this one different from "Nevermind"?

Savannah Smiles, Friday, 16 November 2007 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

So far I've misread the thread title twice.

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 16 November 2007 01:17 (eighteen years ago)

"How is this one different from "Nevermind"?"

i've never heard nevermind. this one is a great rock record. that's all i know. very strong. if there are better rock records than this album and the psychedelic horseshit album put out this year, than i would love to hear them.

scott seward, Friday, 16 November 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

Nevermind was very good, looking forward to this one.

W4LTER, Friday, 16 November 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

This one isn't as good as Nevermind (or, there's no "Missing Dick") but it's pretty great! "When My Ship Comes In" is the best track & "Human Pigeon" the best title ("Daddy Issues" the most typical?) ... what did you think of the Pissed Jeans album, Scott?

Need to hear "Divine Hammer" cover! O dear.

etc, Friday, 16 November 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

i never bought the pissed jeans album. i should, cuz i know i would like it.

so you think the first clockcleaner is ever BETTER than this new one? wow, i will have to get that too then.

scott seward, Friday, 16 November 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

missing dick is a really really rad song, but i gotta listen to nevermind again, cause the few times i did when i first got it, it didnt blow me away...

69, Friday, 16 November 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

I need this one. Vomiting Mirrors is a total jam.

Trip Maker, Friday, 16 November 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

so goth! i love this record.

scott seward, Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

i love that the only time they stop the real squally guitars is on the last second so the dude can i say "so i left my cum on her smile" or whatever it is.

i like the midtempo kinda lurch this locks into. "vomiting mirrors" and "caliente queen" are the jams.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

last song* ech

J0rdan S., Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

Vomiting Mirrors = YES

just listening to this now. So far like it better than the first one.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 30 November 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

I like it now tho it took a while to not just sound like a goth band. They're touring the UK in July and I have a show booked for them... organised guys clearly

DJ Mencap, Friday, 30 November 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

scott i'm glad you picked this up. great record. i like "nevermind" too but for some reason this one kinda sticks in my craw more.

hstencil, Friday, 30 November 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

Heh well I'm a goth sympathiser so I guess that didn't bother me!

Colonel Poo, Friday, 30 November 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

"so i left my cum on her smile" // Good lord, is that what he says?

Savannah Smiles, Friday, 30 November 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

so how'd they end up on load after matador came a-courtin'?

fukasaku tollbooth, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

It's a good record, but I'm hesitant to call it great. Reminds me of too many other things without bettering or extending them. Doesn't make it any less entertaining.

Bob Standard, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

What is the deal with the stuff mentioned in the Pitchfork review? =

But the band is all but banned from playing their hometown Philadelphia for reportedly attacking minorities verbally, the handicapped physically, and other bands' equipment...urinarilly.

Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

They pissed on some bands T-Shirts behind the merch table when they played at the Khyber. A stoner rock band, I can't remember who.
When I saw them in Belleville, IL, they harassed some kids in the crowd that were wearing band tshirts. It was kind of sad. They played everything at half speed and had two strobe lights at different speeds aimed at audience eye-level. At least one person who was a big fan of theirs going into the show was very disappointed. I wasn't that familiar with them at that point (I was there for Times New Viking) but I thought it was a fun set. They ended with a cover of "Divine Hammer."

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

Wow they REALLY REALLY want to be Flipper. Or was it No Trend who used to shine strobe lights into people's eyes and play everything half speed? Probably both of them.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Nevermind (er) - Wikipedia "cleared this up" for me:

"Clockcleaner also have been known for their somewhat aggressive and confrontational live shows. Although John Sharkey tends to throw around the terms "Nigger" and "faggot" in records and live, he uses these words to more so make fun of the people that actually are racist and homophobic."

Oh, I see. He uses those words to more so make fun. Intersting.

And...

"In late 2005 while playing the Talking Head Club in Baltimore, Maryland, Clockcleaner shocked and disturbed many people in attendance. While playing the last song John Sharkey tackled someone in the crowd that had Cerebral Palsy."

I suppose I regret "The singer's angry macho guy shtick in interviews would be tiresome if he wasn't actually pretty funny most of the time," even if these *are* fan-written comments in a Wikipedia entry.

I suppose I'm not enthusiastic/energetic/smart enough to sort out the strangely adolescent intricacies of weird bully performance art noise rock (especially when there's really just one or two decent songs on that record).

Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

i only have the album. and i still dig it. i don't really care what they are like live or what they are like as people. i never go anywhere.

they just sound like noise rock dopes from those accounts. that's like a species! and they are from philly for pete's sake. that means obnoxious is in their blood!

scott seward, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

six months pass...

Apparently (as in, they said so) this band are gonna do another record (dunno which format) and then break up. They also cancelled their tour over here because no-one would pay for their flights, which sounds like a bullshit excuse for lordknowswhat given that bands of their size/position would almost always have to fund themselves, but whatever.

I still think Babylon Rules is great.

DJ Mencap, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

They have that certain something for sure.

Vomiting Mirrors and Divine Hammer ( no, really) worth the entrance fee.

Punk Rock

Fer Ark, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:20 (seventeen years ago)

i was just listening to Babylon Rules today and i was gonna revive this thread! anyway, i still dig it a ton. reminds me of 80's stuff that i loved, but still sounds fresh to me too. doesn't give me an 80's hangover. i mean, they aren't really "retro", you know?

scott seward, Monday, 30 June 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...

so this guy lives in Australia now??
??

Still love this album

wilter, Sunday, 12 October 2008 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

Australia's what I keep hearing. This albums rules.

BigLurks, Monday, 13 October 2008 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

Has anyone heard the "new" final LP, "Auf Weidersen"? It's hard to find/not on eMusic or iTunes/kinda expensive on Amazon.

She Got the Shakes, Thursday, 18 November 2010 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

it's an EP isn't it? i want it and they had it at a friend's store on vinyl but it was 15 bucks and i bought early 70's psych records instead. but if its an album then that explains why it was 15 bucks.
