it's leaked.

what do we think?

"the one" and "no more rain" are transcendent, though they'll never be singles.

why did she choose to kick start this album with "2 hearts"? easily one of the weakest songs on it (along with "Nu-di-ty" which is as ridiculous as it looks)

electroghost, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 06:02 (eighteen years ago)

the bits and bobs i've heard are photocopy-of-a-photocopy goldfrapp [1], although "the one" is easily the best thing she's done since "i believe in you".

[1] which is no bad thing!

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 11:43 (eighteen years ago)

should have used the Mylo tracks instead of the Calvin Harris one.

I'd be surprised if "The One" isn't a single.

Starts well, dips a bit at the halfway mark. The thick-as-custard production seems to replace the need for melody here and there.

agree that nu-di-ty is ridiculous

"The One," "Sensitized," and "Heartbeat Rock" are wonderful. I don't remember if album includes the mix of "2 Hearts" that Rich Juzwiak posted on his site a few weeks ago.

"Wow" is top shelf, despite sounding like a Light Years off-cut.

Autumn Almanac, Monday, 26 November 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

Er, Fever off-cut.

Dear press, pompous garbage about her recent 'troubles' makes a lame crutch for your ill-informed half-arsed reviews to hang on. Leave the pop reviews to someone who gives a fuck.

And calling her a little girl's singer as opposed to *real* ones like Roisin and Alison, dear christ.

The album is great btw, THE ONE is song of the year, no question. Nu-Di-Ty is dreadful, and Speakerphone isn't much better but other than that lets give it 4 patronising petridis thumbs up.

s.rose, Monday, 26 November 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

quite a few of these tracks could've been on Blackout and a few other things just as easily esp. Speakerphone, Heart Beat Rock, All I See and obv. Nu-di-ty. seeing this as good thing tho.

"In My Arms"

kiss out the jams, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

after my initial disappointment (probably caused by the fact that 2 hearts was just damn fine to start the album with), i have fallen under this albums spell.
i love it.

mark e, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

Speakerphone, No More Rain and The One (which was produced by the FREEMASONS) are all aces. My favorite is actually a track that didn't make the cut, "In The Mood For Love," produced by Mylo.

Is "Wow" really the next single? :( if so.

musically, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

(which was produced by the FREEMASONS)

didn't really pick up on that before. dont be tempted by their album - its shit.

yup. hence my post up at the start of the thread.
i think that track would have been a lot better choice.

dont be tempted by their album - its shit.

Are you serious?? Shake Down is my jam!! One of my favorite albums of the year.

musically, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

different strokes.

off to dig it out and check that track
- as the truth is i gave up after a few too many cheesy dance tracks

post check reaction :

hang on .. Shake Down isn't on their Unmixed album.

different Freemasons ?

mark e, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

Shake Down (or Shakedown, I guess) is an album too...Unmixed, IIRC, is just a collection of songs they've mixed in their unmixed form, most of them originally appearing in their mixed form on Shakedown.

musically, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

ah ha .. i remember that one being in the shops.
on your nudge then will try unmixed again.

mark e, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

I like Heartbeat Rock too!

I know, right?, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

Goddamn, "Heart Beat Rock" is so good.

jaymc, Monday, 7 January 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

i actually rather like 'Wow'. the piano intro came on just after i had been listening to Kiki Dee's 'Star' and they're curiously similar.

you see, for all the bad press this album got, X has grown on me a lot more than Tangled Up.

mark e, Monday, 7 January 2008 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

"the one" is exquisite -- i'm obsessed with it at the moment. still not sure i can be arsed listening to the rest of the album, mind :/

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 12:34 (eighteen years ago)

four months pass...

Jesus, that "Heart Beat Rock" Benny Blanco Remix with Spank Rock on it is so amazing.

danzig, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

Still waiting for the feted Freemasons remix of "The One" - I'm assuming the original + more drama.

Love the plasticky sound of the riffs on "In My Arms", but I think the chorus is a bit of a let down. Both of which aspects make sense given it's a Calvin Harris production job.

Tim F, Thursday, 22 May 2008 08:13 (seventeen years ago)

still better than Light Years tho

blueski, Thursday, 22 May 2008 13:17 (seventeen years ago)

yes, but that would surely go without saying.

Just as it goes without saying that it's, ahem, light years below Fever's standards.
