i know there are at least a couple of fans out there of this fantastic band..
all the best bits of late 60s/70s folk with some heavy psych and os mutantes influences thrown in for good measure. the singles have been great and the album is a corker. even the limited tour cds and whatnot are top - particularly the seventh step ep. rick tomlinson's earlier stuff is pretty good too..
share the love with me.

― Alex in Denver, Friday, 23 November 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)
Apparently the first couple of 7"s go for mad dollar on eBay and I've stil not considered selling them, which given that I'm broke as a joke is a measure of how much love I have for VOTSW
― DJ Mencap, Friday, 23 November 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)
Album of the year, for me.
― Mark G, Friday, 23 November 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)
hmm how much mad dollar? i might be persuaded to sell mine as i have less love
― zappi, Friday, 23 November 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)
Well I remember reading £40 somewhere and this was a fair old while ago. Can't promise that's actually a representative price, that said
― DJ Mencap, Friday, 23 November 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)
Boy, do I like that record. one of my faves of the year.
― ellaguru, Friday, 23 November 2007 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

They are in fact a trio at this point and this album bangs - def the most consistently electric thing he's done I think so far
― Dean GAPDY (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 11:51 (sixteen years ago)
Well, the single was fine, but a whole album? Ass opposed to having different styles as on the first one...
― Mark G, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 11:58 (sixteen years ago)
Too many SS'es in my as.
Holy crap! This new Thunders is amazing. I hope it gets a US distributor, but $20 isn't too much to spend if that doesn't happen.
First record to really blow me away so far this year.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 18 February 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)
i fear i might have to be a wanker and get the gatefold vinyl of this one
― victim of a vicious puma (electricsound), Thursday, 18 February 2010 23:40 (fifteen years ago)
$20 for the cd?? or is that the vinyl cost? Way too much. Tchantinler hasn't said anything about vinyl just yet. Unless I'm missing something.
But anyway, this album is really good.
― van smack, Friday, 19 February 2010 02:27 (fifteen years ago)
Heard this today and it is rather good. Anyone know why the name change though?

Just saw him play live, smashed it when not tuning up
― Originoo Golf Clappaz (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 20 February 2010 01:48 (fifteen years ago)
xpost might be a "spizz" thing.
Although, RT did say he was stopping using the old name about 2 years ago.
Maybe this way is the easiest way of "changing his mind as the old name still had currency", sort of thing.

Lps are ready now.

Erol Alkan played this on 6music and I thought it was one of his crazy 70s Turkish prog records. Well done.

1) VOTST is my favorite album of 2010 so far.2) It's still only available here in the US as an import. afaik, but I got the cd for ~$16 from Juno. (Free UK-to-US shipping.)3) Not sure if I've got the timelines right, but if I do, the Woods-to-Thunders renaming likely constitutes the first recorded instance of a new band name resulting from the artist's vanity-googling the old band name.

Why? Are you going to explain that?

tweaked moniker

1) VOTST is my favorite album of 2010 so far.
So with you on this. Is there even going to be a US release?
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 22 March 2010 14:39 (fifteen years ago)
I couldn't wait for a possible domestic release. Got my copy from Juno today. So damn good.
― EZ Snappin, Saturday, 3 April 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)
How does a USian get ahold of this? I don't know how much longer I can wait.
― figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 5 April 2010 04:26 (fifteen years ago)
I followed M.V. and got it from Juno Records. Took just over a week to get here.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 5 April 2010 05:27 (fifteen years ago)
My copy dispatched from Amazin yesterday; which seems unlikely.

I support both Woods & Thunders, but prefer Thunders and would rate the Thunders thing as one of the best discs of the year along with Jerusalem & the Starbaskets and a few others. One of the best recent exports from Georgia.

Dude put out a low-key mini-album last year, but he's been otherwise off the radar since Thunders finished.
