i've heard 90% of the above and haven't digested it all, but for now i pick prayer rug exorcism. quantum superimposition of violence and zen stillness on a cosmic scale, totally uncompromising, paints/speaks its own wordless language, etc

Christ, I wish I'd heard more of this stuff. Only have about three or four of them.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

i voted for FLOATING JAPANESE OOF GARDENS, which is a record somewhere in my top 20 of "wanted records."

i want all the destijl records i don't have. i got conned out of the ed askew LP a few weeks ago.

ian, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

i voted for Green, 'cos of the slightly shorter tracks and 'cos the sound is especially precise - it's def. one of Bower's most 'metal' albs. Prayer Rug Exorcism is also a fave, and features a wedge of a show that I attended, my first exposure to Hototogisu and one of the loudest, most devastating performances I've ever witnessed

FLOATING JAPANESE OOF GARDENS is lush - the best of the tinkling pre-Bassett blissouts - totally needs to be reissued

god i love this music

floating oof gardens
man i passed over a few copies of that askew album for $10 each last time i was in the states ( a year ago). should have picked up some duplicates!!

white wind of autumn is better than anything they ever did ever. i've sold all of the bassett/bower hototogisus, they bored the shit out of me.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

voted for Chimärendämmerung

haven't heard 50% of that list though. Hototogisu is the shit, shoegaze for extremely violent minds

I'll admit this music still scares me...

Bargain. It is their best album after all, ILM says so.

krakow, Thursday, 30 July 2009 09:16 (sixteen years ago)

Surprised there's not been a Skullflower poll, that could be a bit more illuminating, perhaps.

krakow, Thursday, 30 July 2009 10:46 (sixteen years ago)

skullflower poll wld be a lot of typing!

its funny, ive had some gd 2nd hand bargains from the VT shop but most of the secondhand stuff on the site seems ludicrously overpriced

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 30 July 2009 12:12 (sixteen years ago)

I buy s/h stuff from the shop reasonably often. I wouldn't ever quite call it a bargain, but they're at least generally at prices I'm willing to pay. Reminds me that I might take a look up there today actually.

my cousin's husband included an untitled Hototogisu song in this Halloween/death-metal-themed mix-CD he sent me (another inclusion: an excerpt from Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain) & it was probably my favorite song on it.

ranked #12 amongst 'false metallers' (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 20 August 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)

The De Stijl album gives me nightmare-horror visions.
