Butterfly: 8:19 damn

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 05:54 (eighteen years ago)

Future Days: 9:35 damn

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 05:57 (eighteen years ago)

great points. i think this means can was EPIC more often than not! but this thread is for the all-night possessions, the never-ending cloud levels, or what have you. i voted for you doo right.

strgn, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 06:05 (eighteen years ago)

I voted Yoo Doo Rite too, but I am particularly fond of the Geraldine Fibbers version which is admittedly streamlined, but was fucking dynamic on stage.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 06:17 (eighteen years ago)

I fucking love Pinch but have to vote Yoo Doo Right because, while I like it a little less, you get twice as much of it.

Scik Mouthy, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

Halleluhwah

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

Mother Sky!

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

Yoo Doo Right, and I didn't do an exhaustive comparison, but I'm pretty sure the remastered version on that Anthology thing actually does sound a whole lot better.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for "Pinch"; it goes on a bit long, but the first 4 minutes are so are stellar, so there. "Bel Air" a strong contender as well.

If they were offered, either "Oh Yeah" or "Future Days" would be my pick.

Joe, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

Bel Air by miles. I know it's too "pretty" for some Can fans, but it's pretty fucking perfect.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

if it was chain reaction / quantum physics then i'd vote for that (even if it is 2 tracks they just melt into one)

nonightsweats, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

Yoo Doo Rite

Mother Sky without a doubt

outdoor_miner, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

Bel Air seconded. Best thing they ever did.

Lolpez, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

when Bel Air stops around 9:25... WOW

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

Tough to choose between "Halleluwah" (ever notice Last Exit ripped this bassline for "Catch As Catch Can," from their self-titled debut CD?) and "Mother Sky."

unperson, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

^ no!

Peking O underrated

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 30 August 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

I'll say!

I know, right?, Saturday, 30 August 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

"I fucking love Pinch but have to vote Yoo Doo Right because, while I like it a little less, you get twice as much of it."

This seems like an odd argument for Nick to have run with.

MOTHER SKY underrated too, even though it got 9. fucking bass kills it on that song

harriet tubgirl (Curt1s Stephens), Friday, 23 October 2009 04:38 (sixteen years ago)

animal waves (what a great psychedelic world music vibe here already) >>> you doo right (which i always found embarrassingly dumb)

alex in mainhattan, Friday, 23 October 2009 09:44 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah Monster Movie is way my least listened to Can alb.

Erol "Bomber" Alkan (Noodle Vague), Friday, 23 October 2009 09:52 (sixteen years ago)

Monster Movie is probably my most listened to, joint with Ege Bamyasi.

Will someone point me to the best source of reading about the recording of Mother Sky? Is there something to read? If not, will someone please tell me everything that is currently known about the recording of that song? Was it recorded live? Were there overdubs? Those are my main questions. I have others, but those are the main ones.

La Lechera, Friday, 20 June 2014 19:58 (eleven years ago)

There are overdubs on the drums at least, from memory.

i reject your shiny expensive consumerist stereo system (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 20 June 2014 20:09 (eleven years ago)

From what I can tell, it was edited down from a long jam session and there are overdubs (possibly recorded at different speeds). It sounds like it starts in the middle of a guitar solo, there are noticeable tape edits, and the tom-tom solo parts sound like they were dubbed over. That's just what I hear, though; I don't have any sources offhand.

U WERE THERE???? O.O

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Friday, 20 June 2014 20:14 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, I ask because people are always referring to Jaki's massive drumming in that song, and while it is totally awesome, it also seems impossible for a person to do all that at once, like literally impossible. I just want confirmation that I am not crazy to be hearing impossible one-person-with-four-limbs drum parts.

I've listened to it a zillion times and overdubs (in the Soundtracks version at least) is the only explanation I can think of for that sound.

wonder how this poll would go today with the addition of graublau

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_q5ZS2IeN0

also -- please tell me songs that have borrowed/stolen/used the halleluwah beat -- bonus: does that beat have a name?

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Thursday, 21 May 2015 18:21 (ten years ago)

how would it go w/ the addition of dead pigeon suite!?
i think that might be my favorite can song.
it might be my favorite song.

tylerw, Thursday, 21 May 2015 22:10 (ten years ago)

Is there a way to tell when purchasing the lost tapes online whether I am getting the version with the lengthy booklet notes or the version without?

demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 21 May 2015 23:04 (ten years ago)

I love Dead Pigeon Suite!! Messer, Scissors, Fork & Light too. Those 2 + Graublau are worth the price imo.

As far as purchasing online, idk -- you mean dling? I enjoyed reading the booklet a lot.

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Thursday, 21 May 2015 23:32 (ten years ago)

No the physical version. I thought some of them had the book and some didn't?

demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 21 May 2015 23:49 (ten years ago)

I got the cd box and it had a booklet. Go for that I guess?

Mother Sky tape edits might be my favorite tape edits of all time
