There's a Chinese laundry man, the famous Mr. Wu
He's chucked his limehouse laundry shop and his window cleaning, too
He's got another job, and it’s one of the best
Now he's doing his bit for England like the rest.

And Mr. Wu is now an air raid warden, and don’t he look cute in his new siren suit..
He goes round every night to make the black-out sure
So if you've got a chink in your window, you'll have another one at your door
His headquarters, it's plain, are down by lover's lane

And he goes there every evening anyhow
He'll flash his torch into the dark
And the girls all cover their laundry mark
'Cause Mr. Wu 's an Air Raid Warden now

One night while on his beat, a couple he did meet
They were cuddling in the shelter anyhow.
He said "The all clear's gone, you see" and the chap said "Boy you're telling me!"
'Cause Mr. Wu's an Air Raid Warden Now.

His cousin one way in, one day was helping him
To move a time-bomb from their shop, I vow,
But it went off bang and there's no doubt, one way in flew one way out
And Mr. Wu's no Air Raid Warden now.

Oh Mr. Wu is now an Air Raid Warden, and don't he look cute in his new siren suit.
He goes round every night to make the black-out sure
So if you've got a chink in your window, you'll have another one at your door.

A fire-bomb dropped one day, so close to him they say
That he deserves a medal they all vow
But perhaps what you don't understand, he put the fire out but he didn't use sand
'Cause Mr. Wu's an Air Raid Warden Now.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

Voted for Elvis Costello, btw

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

"Dr Wu's an Air Raid Warden Now" = celebration of multicultural Britain.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Ice Cube?

[runs away]

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Axl Rose is a stunning ommision as well.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

Dammit I should start a new poll. Several, even.

Haw!

JN$OT, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

And what about Prof. Griff?

JN$OT, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

Cube > Costello > Rose > Morrisey > Kylie M > Lemmy > Magnetic Fieldy > Dannii M > C Cole > Hilton > Clapton

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

Cube isn't over-racist, he's just the right amount of racist.

Griff was strictly in it for the lulz. And would come way behind all of X-Clan anyway.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

HOW CAN POLAR BEARS SWING ON VINES WITH THE GORILLAS, PLEASE?

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

I've clearly been elsewhere re: Kylie's racism but a quick google shows her forum takes matters like this very seriously: http://forums.kylie.com/viewtopic.php?t=40682&sid=5eea24e19b8b36cb79a9fe72fea1611f

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, but to be fair to our Turkish friends they are hardly troublemakers,
i dont think, judging by their other threads & input.Besides i dont think they could commit anything wrong that is indecent as its a huge thread & anything offensive like porn or any spam would be picked up by now.

Posted Morrissey, yesterday.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

what's the story with kylie?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

I thought it was Dannii?

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

From what I remember when the Dannii controv broke, Kylie was widely rumoured to have made lots of similar comments only less publicly. And hey, we're all about the unsubstantiated rumour here.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

Why Lemmy?

JN$OT, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

Also Kyles worked for notorious xenophobe Pete Watermang who would often use the phrase "Indian music" as a humorous substitution for "Indie music".

And there weren't many black peeps on Hitman and Her or sump'n.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Really when I think about the wunnerful world of metal and the three members of Genesis that recorded "Illegal Alien" this thing could be a very long list indeed but y'know? brevity is the soul of bigotry.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:21 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE THE FUCK IS BOWIE?

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

I only ask so I can put him at the bottom of the pile, below Dannii and Paris Hilton.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

I hate all of the artists on the list, except maybe Lemmy.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

I would nominate Nico.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

Lemmy supposedly collects Nazi memorabilia (there are some shots of him circa Hawkwind with a swastika on his bass), although I believe the great man asserts that he's more into WWI Germany ephemera.

Taking him on his word, if we're going to take him to task for that, we might as well include dear Ms. Sioux.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

In that case, Ron Asheton

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

I remember reading Kerrang! live reviews in the 80s which mentioned Lemmy's humorous stage banter re: Indians.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE IS THE NUGE

and what, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Okay I didn't think this thru.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think that Iggy story makes him a racist.

Nico for sure, big time.

dally, Thursday, 29 November 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

wasnt it nico who said that bob marley 'wasnt like other black people' or something

and what, Thursday, 29 November 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

She said something about black people being ugly and ape-like.

Also, when she dumped Lou Reed, she told him, "I cannot make love the Jews anymore." Which is kind of funny in a way.

Speaking of the Asian-born population in Queensland, Minogue, 31, told GQ magazine: “Even some of the street signs are in Asian!”

But tonight she said she was only stating this as a fact and that she did not think it was a bad thing.

Where have I heard that recently?

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 29 November 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

She would love Fort Lee, New Jersey then.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 29 November 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

why is elvis costello considered a racist (not disputing, just curious)?

Jordan, Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

For calling Ray Charles a "blind, ignorant nigger"

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

He said he did it to annoy some hippies

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

He was just trying to piss Stephen Stills off, so it was worth it.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Not really

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

I kid.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

Admittedly it is one of the few interesting things he's ever done

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

Ha - that's so true.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

Costello Ray Charles thing was more a symptom of being stupid as fuck than actually being racist.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

I think it could count as stupid *and* racist.

onimo, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

I think they did meet and and the incident actually came up IIRC.

will, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

I love that story about how Elvis was drunk and was talking shit to the Stephen Stills Band calling them "hippies" and shit like that and then Stephens Still's female bass player walked up to Elvis and knocked him out. I like those first few records, but god what a douche.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

I kinda feel bad for the Magnetic Fields dude, everyone else is on the list for something stupid they said, he's on the list for something stupid Jessica Hopper said.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

I guess I've never heard an clear account of the Stills/Costello encounter. I certainly didn't know about the female bass player knocking him out, and I had been under the impression that Stills' entourage sort of instigated the whole thing - sort of the old guard jealously picking apart the up-and-comer. I could be totally off base, though. (even so, Costello very likely a douche)

will, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

Mister Craig, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

Costello never spoke to Charles about it, I don't think.

Mark Rich@rdson, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

Stills is also a giant douche. And certifiable. For a long time he kept telling people he'd been in Vietnam and even bought a military uniform he'd wear around. Heard him talk lately? He sounds like he has brain damage, which he probably does from the years of drug and alcohol abuse. Was and is as big a cokehead as Crosby, never got anywhere even close to clean.

dally, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

Lemmy denied the holocaust in Q 163 April 2000.

Free Peace Sweet!, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

Costello never spoke to Charles about it, I don't think.

I think you are right.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Costello

Charles: "Drunken talk isn't meant to be printed in the paper"

whoah, so Bonnie Bramlett was the one who allegedly punched Costello? Damn.

There are photographs, but anyone can make photographs. You can fake anything. I think half of it's true and half of it isn't

Lemmy in Q re: Holocaust...so just 3 million murdered, that's alright then.

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

I refuse to believe that about Lemmy, then again, he is a Nazi memorabilia collector.

Elvis Costello is no racist, in spite of some drunk comment towards Ray Charles (wasn't it?). And no matter what, he is the greatest of this bunch.

And, not that I would have voted for any of them, but where are Burzum and Gorgoroth?

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

yeah seriously no Vikernes no cred

latebloomer, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

what about those little blonde aryan white pride singing teenage girls?

dally, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

Lemmy is still way down on the list, morbid obsession with nazis notwithstanding - even the "half of it is true" statement is pretty banal/open to interpretation

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

Lemmy: "The government keeps people being afraid. It’s just like with the Nazis in Germany. Hitler had the Reichstag-fire, George Bush had 9/11. They used it to push the laws by decree. It used to be the communist threat, now it’s the terrorist threat."

yeah, sounds like a real Nazi, doesn't he.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:18 (eighteen years ago)

what about those little blonde aryan white pride singing teenage girls?

I guess the point about Preussian Blue is that, like Skrewdriver, they are musical footnotes, famous for absolutely nothing else than being racist.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

I call bullshit on the Costello=racist legend.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 30 November 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

re: Bowie...the Nazi salute was probably just to be "Ooh! Shocking!" (which makes it no less fucking stupid), but a few years later on the then-new "MTV" channel he asked Mark Goodman during an on-air interview why no Black artists were shown on the channel.

Similarly with Elton John: played at Sun City in South Africa during apartheid, but recently called American Idol racist.
