Oh man that's beautiful. I guess whoever made the list never heard that "naughty" version of "Get Back" then?

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

Also LOL CLAPTON

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

^^^those were my first two thoughts on seeing this

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

"pop stars that aren't racist but" more like.

Mark G, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

Eric Clapton (Birmingham 1976) (according to Wikipedia)

"Vote for Enoch Powell. Enoch's our man. I think Enoch's right, I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white. I used to be into dope, now I'm into racism. It's much heavier, man. Fucking wogs, man. Fucking Saudis taking over London. Bastard wogs. Vote for Enoch, he's our man, he's on our side, he'll look after us. I want all of you here to vote for Enoch, support him, he's on our side. Enoch for Prime Minister! Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!"

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

said tax exile Clapton, yesterday.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

I'd never actually read what Clapton said before, I thought it might just have been a mumbled aside at a gig but that's pretty hardcore!

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:21 (eighteen years ago)

When it comes to reviews, I tell it like it is. I don't brown-nose artists hoping to get a bunch of helpful votes in order to make it to the Top 1,000. That's pathetic. I could care less if you think my reviews are helpful or not. I don't need your stupid votes. I'm here to bring the truth to light, not to win some damn popularity contest. Some of you prefer to be living in an illusionary world, but I don't play into that. If a record or movie is bad, then I'll say it. I won't bite my tongue.

One thing that I notice is that Amazon loves to censor my reviews. That's because they're too timid to handle my raw opinions. They'll publish my 1-star reviews but they'll yank them the minute a right-wing crybaby starts complaining. I don't care. I'll just keep on writing. There are a lot of reviewers on this site who are too dumb to see how much crap is out there. They keep giving 5 stars to people like Norah Jones and Celine Dion. That's kinda messed up, if you ask me. FACT: 99% of the stuff out there is overrated. That's just the way it is.

Also, if you think you're gonna send me hate mail by e-mailing me, forget it! I have no time or patience for these internet psychos who attack people for exercising their right to free speech. Not only did I NOT include my e-mail address on this page, but I also BLOCKED it from ALL incoming messages. LOL!! How do you feel about THAT?

Anyway, if you like my reviews, cool. If not, then shut up.

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:21 (eighteen years ago)

xpost haha

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

No doubt he blames it all on the coke and points to his luminous history of Bob Marley covers as an exoneration.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

No, it was the booze apparently

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure about the specifics, but that Clapton speech sounds like he's trying to be sarcastic. I mean, who the hell could say "I used to be into dope, now I'm into racism" with a straight face?

Tuomas, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think anyone recorded what clapton said -- that's the first time i've seen an attempt at a transcript and i have looked before. pinch of salt needed maybe.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

xxpost

Yeah, it's true that. Just last night when I was hammered and trying to hit on students half my age, I made time for a bit of racial abuse.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

Clapton defnitely bigged up Enoch Powell, at any rate.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, who the hell could say "I used to be into dope, now I'm into racism" with a straight face?

A drunken racist?

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

i bet if bobby gillespie said it he'd get away with it.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that guy always gets a free pass on here.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

not here! out there.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

Nobody else takes any notice of him

Tom D., Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

Random aging Indie kids cool with casual racism? Surely not.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

cf Babyshambles tour yada yada yada

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

Akshully Pete Doggerelty must be favourite to come out with something like this in the next five years, followed by "My Drugs Shame" recantation.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

five years

Someone hedges his bets, eh

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

Pete Doggerelty

clever wording, cheers

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, he'll do it at a Tory rally before the next General Election.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

NB Lawyers this is on the "non-racist artist" thread. He is not racist like Eric Clapton and John Lennon.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

John Lennon can't be racist, long-time ILX fave "Momus" is proof that dudes who bang Asian women can't be racist.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

Do people think these issues of race and class, which loom so large in the west, get in the way of creativity?

Frogman Henry, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

ysi... not really

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

I'd be good if those were actually mixed CDs

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

I love it how Billy Bragg turns up on CD2 like the pissed-up Uncle dancing with a frightened teenage girl at a wedding reception.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, he's dragging down the cool hip factor provided by Manu fucking Chao

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

Roll Deep - 'Racist People

Hilariously 'can't be arsed' title there.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

This is the most boring thread in ILM history.

blueski, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:40 (eighteen years ago)

It's basically them speak-singing "All the racist people, where do they all come from?" over "Eleanor Rigby". For 5 minutes.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:40 (eighteen years ago)

Stevem dropping knowledge there.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:40 (eighteen years ago)

I can't see how you can make a statement like that without doing a poll

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)

pre-emptive vote for 'anything initiated by chuck eddy'

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

What's the next Babyshambles song going to be called? "A right royal cockerney barrel o' monkeys" perhaps?

Neil S, Thursday, 29 November 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

No, it was the booze apparently

clapton attempted to explain/excuse his racist comments by saying, "i was drunk. plus, a foreigner had pinched my misses' bum that day." i assume after he said that, one of his handlers said to him, "ok, that's enough, you're just making it worse."
