Considerably weaker than the following years, but voted "Ashes To Ashes".

Blondie - "Atomic"

You're crazy, Geir, there's plenty of really great stuff on there. This being a Geir thread, it's got to be "Funky Town" for me, of course. But I could have easily gone with "Call Me" or "Ashes to Ashes" or any number of other options.

Is it just me or is that lot head and shoulders above most of what was on the equivalent list for 1984?

Even the absolutely rub. ones at least managed to raise a slight smile of recognition.

No. This list is terrible.

Depends whether you like disco or not, I guess.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 08:47 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, there's a lot of (supposedly great) disco in here, but 1979 was way stronger for new wave.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 08:48 (eighteen years ago)

Diana Ross - Upside Down

also love:

David Bowie - Ashes To Ashes
The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket
Blondie - Atomic
Blondie - Call Me
Stevie Wonder - Masterblaster (Jammin')

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Dunno if the boring year or ILM's downtime was the main reason why so few people voted. "Ashes To Ashes" and "My Girl" would both have deserved more votes.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

Plus "Funkytown" is one of the WORST songs ever, but that is hardly news.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

NOT THE VERSION BY WORLD DOMINATION ENTERPRISES, IT ISNT!!!!!

Mark G, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't heard that one, but the one by Pseudo Echo is considerably less insufferable than the original. :)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

I voted Baggy Trousers but it didn't take it seems.
