So...I used to like, not like Jay-Z cuz I had some misconceptions about his music (and for the record, I still think "Big Pimpin" is a stupid song). but on starting to listen to his full lengths I really have done a complete 180--he's great!
so...recommend me the next one to get. I own both Blueprint and Blueprint 2, and American Gangster.
To give you an idea--I think the first Blueprint is far superior to the second lyrically and sonically, though I like both, and I really like American Gangster's beats and lyrics as well. The thing that turned me off about Blueprint 2 is that it was too excessive in comparison to its predecessor.
Suggest away!

I suggest you get some Jay-Z
― gabbneb, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 23:28 (seventeen years ago)
I'm confused. Are you suggesting I rebuy the three albums I ALREADY HAVE!

Reasonable Doubt
― lukas, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 23:30 (seventeen years ago)
start at the beginning and work your way forward until you hit something that kinda sucks. which is maybe the dynasty. (i don't really remember that album, i sold it about 6 years ago.)
otoh you don't like "big pimpin," so what do i know about what you'll like?
― tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 23:30 (seventeen years ago)
I think Reasonable Doubt is next for me...outside of that one though? Any Jay-Z fan I see has a different fav....what about Vol 2/Vol 3/Black album all that stuff?
― Bo Jackson Overdrive, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 23:33 (seventeen years ago)
we did a jay album's poll a few months ago i think that would probably answer a lot of your questions, or at least has the opinions from the ppl you would want to here from anyway (deej, al in balt, rev, m@tt). i can't find it in search but there are 560 jay threads on here.

tipsy otm.
avoid Kingdom Come, sell Blueprint 2.0, and fight to the death over which of the 3 Vols of "Life and Times of S. Carter" is the best.

vol. 3
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 December 2007 23:39 (seventeen years ago)
I dunno there are enough good tracks on Blueprint 2 to warrant me keeping it even if sometimes I wonder "could you have had enough guests on this album?" STill tho Rakim's verse on The Watcher 2=\m/
― Bo Jackson Overdrive, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 23:42 (seventeen years ago)
Is it "the three volumes of Life and Times of S. Carter" or "the three volumes of In My Lifetime" or what? Is there a singular name to refer to all 3?

No more questions

Reasonable Doubt and Unplugged are my faves and probably your better bets if you don't like "Big Pimpin'", even if the latter has an (awesome) version on it. Search "Nigga What, Nigga Who" off V.2, "Do It Again" off V.3, "This Can't Be Life" and "1-900 Hustler" off the Dynasty.

Someone in this thread might tell you that you need The Black Album. Ignore them.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 06:44 (seventeen years ago)
no ignore u the black album is definitely up there with jay's best and i think saying so is generally pretty non-contentious
― sleepingbag, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 07:34 (seventeen years ago)
lol u must not spend a lot of time here then
― max, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 07:37 (seventeen years ago)
well pretty non-contentious elsewhere i mean everything is contentious here
― sleepingbag, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 07:43 (seventeen years ago)
well it's too late cuz I bought TBA last night. Reasonable Doubt is on the way via mail (along with the Delfonics s/t omgomgomg)
