Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

"seven wonders"!

r1o natsume, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

11-way tie for first? Oh, what the heck--I just picked "Dreams."

JN$OT, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

isn't "Hold Me" the ILM favorite?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:16 (seventeen years ago)

Too many to choose from, but I'll go with "Rihannon."

sw00ds, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

I thought "Mystified" was a single?

sw00ds, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago)

I always thought "The Chain" and "Monday Morning" were singles, too...

henry s, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

Nein to all three songs.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:59 (seventeen years ago)

Buckingham wasn't on "As Long As You Follow" through "Paper Doll."

I vote for "You Make Lovin Fun."

da croupier, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

"Go Your Own Way": I love how the acoustic guitar sits in the mix, doing more of the rhythm during the song than the drums; great Buckingham vocal too, with the usual fabulous harmonies; but what carries it over the top is the way the electric guitar dances around in the second half doing basically its own thing, like another vocal, but if it had been a voice it would have just been annoying. In other words: brilliant.

Euler, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

I'm waiting to vote – my iPod's on shuffle. I'm in a "Think About Me" mood.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

I guess "did you ever love me" was previous.

Mark G, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

Easy: "Dreams."

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

farmer's daughter was a single?

stevie, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:42 (seventeen years ago)

I never get tired of hearing "Say You Love Me"

Joe, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:42 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, hearing it this morning inspired this poll.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Nein to all three songs.

I'm fairly certain I own "Mystified" on a 7". Maybe it just didn't chart.

sw00ds, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

It may have been a European single?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:52 (seventeen years ago)

Or Canadian?

JN$OT, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

xp
Hmm, more likely it was a domestic Canadian single. If I think about it when I get home I'll consult my Canadian chart book to see if it's even mentioned there (though I doubt it actually did chart--still, it's easier than flipping through four crates of 45s, I suppose).

sw00ds, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

er, not xp, but xp to the xp, or something.

sw00ds, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

"Tusk" it is.
For tonight.
:)

t**t, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

at the time i thought "mystified" was a perfect little wisp of a song, though i don't know that i'd necessarily vote for it now. still fits nicely on mix tapes alongside julee cruise.

sw00ds, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

Easy: "Dreams."

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 December 2007 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

this isn't really an easy choice, but for me it's gotta be 'go your own way'. gold. genius. what a fantastic track.

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 6 December 2007 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

...and "second hand news" wasn't even a single? o boy, o boy.

t**t, Thursday, 6 December 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

i went for landslide...

stevie, Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

wtf "Family Man" as a single. Did Warner Brothers run out of McVie songs to flog?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

It was so obvious who this poll was by.

I'm torn, right now it's Tusk/Sarah/Hold Me/Everywhere and Not that Funny has a bit of a chance, even though I prefer I know I'm not wrong (which I'm now hoping was the B-side, an Idea I don't want shattered thankyou)

I know, right?, Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

"Love in Store" sounds really great on the drive home: must be the rolling drums.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 7 December 2007 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

hold me, but i do feel guilty not voting for something off the first three

electricsound, Friday, 7 December 2007 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

Big Love but ONLY the reunion version...Lindsay completely reinvented it as a banjo-inspired guitar frenzy!

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Friday, 7 December 2007 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

Had to go with my first love, "Dreams."

roxymuzak, Friday, 7 December 2007 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

"Go Your Own Way", "Don't Stop" in second, I'm not too bothered about any of the rest.

snoball, Friday, 7 December 2007 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

I never get tired of hearing "Say You Love Me"

same

tremendoid, Friday, 7 December 2007 01:28 (seventeen years ago)

dammit mods, my vote is wrong, please change to "hold me" (altho, poll of FM singles = down w/polls)

Dominique, Friday, 7 December 2007 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

i almost voted something besides "dreams" but then i replayed the opening 15 seconds of it in my head and just couldn't. the insanely catchy chorus is the least of its strengths. the verses, the bass line, lindsay's lonely guitar, the backing vox, everything so evocative. and i think stevie's best vocal, period.

tipsy mothra, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

lindsey. got my lindse(a)ys confused.

tipsy mothra, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

its always gonna be 'sara' for me but i voted 'say you will' which is up there with prime FM

Michael B, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:26 (seventeen years ago)

"You Make Loving Fun" = CMcV >>>>>>>> LB + SN

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

its always gonna be 'sara' for me but i voted 'say you will' which is up there with prime FM

especially the kiddie chorus.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:41 (seventeen years ago)

"Little Lies". Nothing else is even remotely close.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:42 (seventeen years ago)

"You Make Loving Fun"

I prefer "Sara" but it's not very singley, is it?

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

I prefer "Sara" but it's not very singley, is it?

It sure is -- even in its abbreviated single version.

Lester Bangs gives it a great offhand thumbs-up in his review of Bella Donna.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

"go your own way" -- the interaction of the gtrs with each other and with the drums kill me. the combination of anger and desperation in the vocal. the combination of egomania ("if i could, baby i'd give you my world") and helplessness ("how can i when you won't take it from me") in the lyric. a great record amid great records.

fact checking cuz, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 04:20 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

The top five is no surprise, but "Over My Head" getting zero votes = shame.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

i like the song 'tusk' and all but its more of an amusing oddity rather than anything else no?

Michael B, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:42 (seventeen years ago)

also nu-ilm doesnt take enuff e's otherwise 'everywhere' would be HIGHER

Michael B, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:44 (seventeen years ago)

yeah what did lester bangs think of FM? not that it would sway my opinion on em or anything.

Michael B, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:46 (seventeen years ago)

A lot of ILMers love "Tusk" (the album).

Zero votes for "Everywhere" is a bit of a shame, but overall the results are pretty good (cheers to the two others who voted for "Gypsy").

xpost!

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:47 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i understand the love for the album but the title track! well whatever, its a noize dude thang eh?

Michael B, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:50 (seventeen years ago)

The problem with this ballot is that 80s singles, particularly those from Tango, get overshadowed by the 70s singles. I love Everywhere and Seven Wonders and Big Love a tremendous amount, but the Rumors singles are kind of the Buckingham-Nicks era ivory tower.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:52 (seventeen years ago)

Also, I thought Silver Springs was a b-side.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:55 (seventeen years ago)

They had *more* great singles in the 70's compared to the 80's, but their best 80's singles are every bit as good as the "Rumours" singles ... Everywhere + Hold Me > Dreams + You Make Loving Fun

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 13 December 2007 07:59 (seventeen years ago)

I'm surpried at how few votes Rhiannon got.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 13 December 2007 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

Lester Bangs loved Rumours and said so in his review of Bella Donna.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 13 December 2007 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

eleven years pass...

Let's rank'em all!
