Remix opportunity

Hi. I'm in an indie-pop band, as some as you know. We've gotten a lot of good press and are about to play a huge benefit for Obama tomorrow night, so we have a pretty decent fanbase, considering we don't play out of town too often.

Anyway, we're looking to put out a free remix EP that we'd probably just give out at shows and maybe put online, too. I don't want to go into any further details before the project comes together, but if anyone's interested in contributing a remix of one of our songs (unfortunately, we couldn't pay you), then you can e-mail me through ILX and I'll direct you to the music and answer any further questions you might have. All styles welcome.

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

fuck you, pay me

blunt, Thursday, 6 December 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

(had to be done)

blunt, Thursday, 6 December 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

maybe you should post this on IMM?

(i'll give it a shot)

Jordan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

Does anyone actually read IMM?

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

No.

HI DERE, Thursday, 6 December 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

by "no", dan means "no (rock drummers in Boston looking for a gig)" :>

Jordan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, I stopped reading it for personal reasons, but I didn't think it got much traffic, either.

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

Does the remix have to be "indie-friendly"?

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan: awesome at subtext. ;_;

HI DERE, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

Spencer, depends on what you mean by "indie-friendly"?

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

(I mean, these days I think there's a lot of electronic dance music that's "indie-friendly.")

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

i am interested. i e-mailed you. or tried. :) hope it worked.

Ludo, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

oh it's on

El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

you could also try remixfight but the music has to be released copyleft I think plus the regulars over there tend to come up with pretty horrendous cubasified bedroom bullshit

El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 December 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Ludo, sorry, I haven't gotten anything from you yet ... try again, maybe?

Just e-mailed you back, Tom.

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

got it, won't be able to listen until tonight.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

No prob.

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

i could turn down the treble and do a spoken word piece over it

s1ocki, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

do an electroplankton remix, slocki

Jordan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

Can I chop this up into 30 second chunks and scramble them?

HI DERE, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

i should start a thread called "Spoken word opportunity"

s1ocki, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

Don't step on Ned's turf.

jaymc, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

this is all original stuff

s1ocki, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

Can I chop this up into 30 second chunks and scramble them?

'no no the bridge is AFTER the chorus, it's totally different'

Jordan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

i'd love to give it a shot; i'll send you an email

maciej recognizing trill, Friday, 7 December 2007 07:54 (eighteen years ago)

you got myspace so we can hear what you're about ???

...but if it's got guitars in it i'm not interested

pollywog, Friday, 7 December 2007 07:55 (eighteen years ago)

You can always take the guitars out, you know.

The Reverend, Friday, 7 December 2007 07:57 (eighteen years ago)

^^^what a brilliant idea...

...where do i sign ???

pollywog, Friday, 7 December 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, so I got a bunch of e-mails from people -- much more than I expected -- so I'm going to close this off for now. If you've already e-mailed me, I will get back to you today. Thanks for your interest!

jaymc, Friday, 7 December 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, I stopped reading it for personal reasons, but I didn't think it got much traffic, either.

:(

John Justen, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

it may not get as much traffic as the other boards, but the percentage of posters able & willing to do remixes is super high!

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

Lynskey is gone now, though, right? Cause that's a guy who can do a good remix, I think.

nabisco, Friday, 7 December 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

If he is gone, that's too bad, because his stuff was AWESOME.

John Justen, Friday, 7 December 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

ill remix you, jaymc!

Jordan, Friday, 7 December 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

Err...I should have actually emailed instead just saying I would in a roundabout why. Yeah.

The Reverend, Saturday, 8 December 2007 01:57 (eighteen years ago)

Does anyone have a web page or myspace address for Lynskey? B/C I can't find him on searches, and that dude was seriously awesome.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 8 December 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)

userinfo puts him as his display name@gmale, but that's all I've got.

John Justen, Saturday, 8 December 2007 02:04 (eighteen years ago)

i have a 3 year old email from him that has his email as paul at b1lbl1o.n1ldram.co.uk - maybe give that a try?

(1's should be replaced with i's obv)

electricsound, Saturday, 8 December 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hi. I'm in an indie-pop band, as some as you know.

thats nice...

...so has your indie pop band got a name/myspace ???

heres my space its got sum stuff i played around with...

pollywog, Saturday, 8 December 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

just checking this is still happening (while i have time to do it)

electricsound, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

can anyone recommend a good program to use to do remixes? what have those on this thread used?

s.rose, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE BE ME DRY SESSION TRACKS

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

pollywog: wrong place, wrong time, son.
s.rose: try I Make Music.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

wrong tune, wrong band methinks

pollywog, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

I should have stuff for you in the next couple of days, by the end of the week at the latest. If you need some extra time as a result, that's OK.

jaymc, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

why dont you just post ur shit and let everyone who wants take a crack - wider net etc

jhøshea, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

1. Because I don't want to publicly post an entire album that is about to be re-released.

2. Because I don't want the hassle of dealing with an infinite number of remixers -- sending everyone the raw audio tracks, following up, selecting which remixes we'll actually use and which we'll discard, etc.

jaymc, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

maybe just post one trak with all the raw files for everyone as a test to see who can make the best go of it before handing over the good shit to just anybody...

pollywog, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

^^^good idea

The Reverend, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

El Tomboto, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

oh right, i will work on mine this weekend.

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

None taken. Our engineer said the same.

...your engineer wasn't mixerman was it ???

pollywog, Friday, 28 December 2007 12:30 (seventeen years ago)

i'm half done. i may or may not be building the whole track around j's five-word backing vocal

electricsound, Friday, 28 December 2007 12:51 (seventeen years ago)

Ha, awesome.

jaymc, Friday, 28 December 2007 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

I just sent out an e-mail to a few of you that I'm still waiting on. In case you didn't receive it, I'll say it again here: this is the final week that we can accept a remix. Basically, the CD is going to be mastered this weekend, so if the remix is not in by Friday in .wav form, it won't be on the album. If it looks like you won't be able to make it, just let me know. We've already got about ten mixes in, so we're in pretty good shape, although it'd be nice to have a few more, too.

jaymc, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 15:43 (seventeen years ago)

YSI?

Mark G, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

will remixers get a copy? :>

Jordan, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

Well, it will be available for free on our website starting in a couple of weeks, but if you want a CD, I can send you one.

jaymc, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

hi jaymc, i forgot to reply to your email so i'll do it here - i sent you an mp3 to see if you were into it a few weeks ago, did you not get it? i think my mix is a bit drab as i ran out of time but i'll resend you the file and you can make up your own mind..

electricsound, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 22:49 (seventeen years ago)

OK, thanks. Yeah, I never got it!

jaymc, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)

you should have mine in your inbox via sendspace. could probably have trimmed a few seconds of dead air off the end but oh my goodness look at the time.

Certain ILXors are way-slick with production; I am impressed and plan to play close attention to their EQ tips on any future music-making threads.

Mr. Que, Monday, 25 February 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

yeah. i pushed the level on the bass way high on my dub, which sounded cool when i submitted it, but after mastering is like "WHOA TOO MUCH BASS, DUDE".
