I'll be lame and say the title track. Drake's debut was always my favorite album though.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Saturday, 8 December 2007 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

"Know"

Euler, Saturday, 8 December 2007 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

which will

electricsound, Saturday, 8 December 2007 05:05 (seventeen years ago)

"From the Morning," but it could have been many others.

For any Pink Moon enthusiasts, Amanda Petrusich's new book for the 33 1/3 series is essential:

'Things Behind the Sun' because it is winter and stuff

MaggieGo, Saturday, 8 December 2007 09:06 (seventeen years ago)

there will never be another Nick Drake!

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Saturday, 8 December 2007 12:51 (seventeen years ago)

It's "Things Behind the Sun" or "Parasite" and everything else is a step behind those two.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 8 December 2007 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

"road", the only song i know the lyrics from by heart:

you can say the sun is shining
if you really want to
i can see the moon and it seems so clear
you can take the road that takes you to the stars now
i can take a road that i'll see me through

it's nick drake in a nutshell.

alex in mainhattan, Saturday, 8 December 2007 14:34 (seventeen years ago)

'things behind the sun' by quite a margin, and i love the album all the way through. but that track is such a glorious centrepiece, so moody and captivating with the man's most haunting guitar line (perhaps along with 'joey')

Charlie Howard, Saturday, 8 December 2007 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

Road

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 8 December 2007 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

"Things Behind the Sun" for me, thanks.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 8 December 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Friday, 14 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

place to be please.

CaptainLorax, Friday, 14 December 2007 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

"things behind the sun" always destroys me.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Friday, 14 December 2007 01:28 (seventeen years ago)

"Things Behind The Sun" for me, too.

"From The Morning" in a very close can't be separated tie with "Pink Moon" for second place.

Guilty_Boksen, Friday, 14 December 2007 13:01 (seventeen years ago)

Y'know, I never really like this record all that much. I do love Northern Sky so much. So very very much.

nathalie, Friday, 14 December 2007 13:30 (seventeen years ago)

Free Ride

Dr.C, Friday, 14 December 2007 13:46 (seventeen years ago)

pisces, Friday, 14 December 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

I thought Place To Be would be the answer for half of you all. It is for me.

CaptainLorax, Friday, 14 December 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Saturday, 15 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

No love for "Horn."

three handclaps, Saturday, 15 December 2007 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

"Horn" is great. And so is "Harvest Breed."

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 15 December 2007 10:26 (seventeen years ago)

ILX poll in coming up with the right answer shocker.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 15 December 2007 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

Road = Robbed

Upt0eleven, Friday, 22 February 2008 11:25 (seventeen years ago)

I've been listening to this a lot recently, for the first time in years, because of Amanda's book.

Mark Rich@rdson, Friday, 22 February 2008 14:09 (seventeen years ago)

Went with "Parasite". Super surprised by the results. Would have guessed teh title track.

tylerw, Friday, 2 August 2013 21:03 (eleven years ago)

yeah, i very close to voting for this in the Acclaimed 1972 poll but haven't pulled that trigger yet.

Bee OK, Saturday, 3 August 2013 01:59 (eleven years ago)

six years pass...

unlike Five Leaves Left, it may have actually been since my original post ITT since I listened to Pink Moon.

I can't believe I forgot the brilliance of the poll winner. Those chords, fuuuuuuuck. so glad to have re-acquainted with it tonight.

i'm down and need some Nick

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 July 2020 04:46 (four years ago)

Been on a Nick Drake binge lately. The 3LP Time Has Told Me bootleg is my current favorite. He covers all these old blues and folk tunes like “Been Smoking Too Long” and “Get Together” and it’s all just home recordings but it’s great. I know those recordings have shown up on other bootlegs before but those all had horrible sound quality, whereas this one is crystal clear and sounds like Nick is there playing right next to you. Fucking amazing! Nick was a goddamn genius.

Fantastic! A ten-out-of-ten classic every bit as good as his studio albums! I’m not exactly Mr. Sound Quality Audiophile Expert here, but I am just super-impressed by the quality, especially for a bootleg. (I’ve also heard The Complete Home Recordings bootleg and that sounds garbage.) I notice that some of these recordings were legitimately released a couple years ago as an album called Family Tree, but scrolling down the tracklist I can see even that doesn’t have “Summertime” or his HEART-ACHINGLY GORGEOUS version of “Don’t Think Twice (It’s Alright)” on it. Nick’s discography is complicated!

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 23 July 2020 15:55 (four years ago)

God, what an album. It'd have to be From the Morning or Place to Be.

I went to his grave a couple of years back. It's a beautiful spot and he's a got great view across the fields. The inscription on the back of the headstone (now we rise, and we are everywhere) is so perfect, his whole story feels like a conjuring.
