SCRITTI POLITTI THREE WAY POLL: Wood Beez Vs. Absolute Vs. Hypnotize

Well, we had a poll for best Scritti single, but I really wanted to see what would happen if we put these three to the test. It's easy to think of them together, they're like a continuum. Perfect Way is great as well, but doesn't really fit in with these. Also...does anyone know if all three of these were out before Cupid & Psyche 85? I'm pretty sure that the Wood Beez/Absolute 12" was out before the album.

Poll Results

OptionVotes
Wood Beez 10
Hypnotize9
Absolute 8

awww c'mon...don't make me choose. all three are genius. although I suppose it's between "wood beez" for that incredible bassline and "hypnotize" for those incredible harmonies.

What's the best track on "Cupid & Psyche"?

Christ, people! Give a person a chance to vote why don't ya? I never even saw this poll. It must have sank like a stone.

Wikipedia says they were all released prior to being on the album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scritti_Politti#Discography

Absolute, for me.

emsef, Sunday, 9 December 2007 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

Voted "Absolute" although I like "The Word Girl" and "Perfect Way" better.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 9 December 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

And the results of my earlier "Cupid & Psyche" poll suggest "Absolute" will probably be the winner here too.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 9 December 2007 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

12" wood beez >>> 7" wood beez

i think maybe hypnotize for me.

"Hypnotize" is my fave.

sw00ds, Sunday, 9 December 2007 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

Hypnotize.

zeus, Sunday, 9 December 2007 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

Absolute...by a lot, actually, and that says more about Absolute than Wood Beez or Hypnotize.

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 9 December 2007 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

"Absolute," no question. The instrumental dub mix appended to the end of the CAP '85 CD is a wonder.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 9 December 2007 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I was going to say: They were all out well before the album.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 15 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

My Christmas wish is for Hypnotize. Thanks.

ILX System, Sunday, 16 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, that's incredible! A nearly even spread! I love it.

Bimble, Sunday, 16 December 2007 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

And yet, wrong!

Mark G, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:26 (seventeen years ago)

five years pass...

ABSOLUTE

brimstead, Friday, 14 June 2013 03:03 (twelve years ago)

yes.

Mark G, Friday, 14 June 2013 06:29 (twelve years ago)

wonder what the story is behind this (from Wiki)
The single "Perfect Way", while not a major UK chart success, was a surprise hit in the US, reaching No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in a 25-week run on the chart.

seems Perfect Way didn't chart *at all* in the UK.

piscesx, Friday, 14 June 2013 11:53 (twelve years ago)

Absolute is also their best album imo!

sjuttiosju_u (wins), Friday, 14 June 2013 11:56 (twelve years ago)

xpost Perfect Way was the fifth single off the album. it got to 48.

Mark G, Friday, 14 June 2013 13:06 (twelve years ago)

yeah, and it was released a few months after the album.

sleepingsignal, Friday, 14 June 2013 13:59 (twelve years ago)

Well I helped it to reach no 48. I bought the cassingle of it in Autumn 85, a lovely card flip top box like a pack of ciggies. I don't know why but the mix of "Perfect way" on CD - well, my CD of "C&P 85" - always sounded wrong - the introduction sounds like it is out of phase.

Rob M Revisited, Friday, 14 June 2013 15:32 (twelve years ago)

I have the LP, is that better?

Mark G, Friday, 14 June 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)

It should be noted that I do a smashing karaoke version of "Perfect Way."

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 14 June 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

Yes Mark the original LP (and cassette, which I had) sound far better, the intro to "Perfect way" sounding in-phase, clear and LOUD.

Rob M Revisited, Saturday, 15 June 2013 07:55 (twelve years ago)

Cheers.

I got the "Best of" in a 2nd hand shop recently, loads from Skank to Tinseltown (i,.e. No white bread or boom bip) maybe that one is ok..

Mark G, Saturday, 15 June 2013 09:54 (twelve years ago)

The intro to Perfect Way is SO LOUD on the album. Always found that super weird.

Chillin, lettin Dont Work That Hard do its thing, then BAM *lunges for volume knob...every.time.*

mr.raffles, Saturday, 15 June 2013 14:22 (twelve years ago)

I've got a new hermaneutic

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 15 June 2013 14:37 (twelve years ago)

'Small Talk' is the real sleeper here...what an amazing 2nd track...

The Pastiche Liberation Front (sonnyboy), Saturday, 15 June 2013 17:55 (twelve years ago)

i missed this, would've voted "absolute"

the late great, Saturday, 15 June 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

my favorite off this album is easily "a little knowledge"

the late great, Saturday, 15 June 2013 19:09 (twelve years ago)

been listening to c&p85 a lot this year. the older i get the more flawless it seems to become

r|t|c, Saturday, 15 June 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

Best thing in the Michael Clark thingy at the Barbican late last year..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 15 June 2013 20:12 (twelve years ago)

been listening to c&p85 a lot this year. the older i get the more flawless it seems to become

Naw man, it's only us who become more flawed as we get older in the face of the perfection that is C&P85!!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Sunday, 16 June 2013 05:05 (twelve years ago)

Perspective. It's no mystery...
