Still early, ok, but feel free to discuss anyway! :-)

(lol @ "Definitely will NOT be there: The Smiths")

StanM, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:56 (seventeen years ago)

Ugh, a terrible lineup across the board. Tragic

Cliftonb, Sunday, 9 December 2007 22:51 (seventeen years ago)

are you kidding me?

Breeders, Verve, Portishead, Caribou, MBV, Battles, Mogwai = pretty good potential lineup so far.

stephen, Sunday, 9 December 2007 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

The "Definitely will NOT be there" line-up is pretty sweet.

musically, Sunday, 9 December 2007 22:58 (seventeen years ago)

If screaming trees reform i hope they play Glasgow as i missed them when they played here a couple of times in the 90s. (inc josh homme playing with them)

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

The Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:45 (seventeen years ago)

not terrible, really. i mean, nothing i wouldn't expect, but eh. keeps the indie fuxxors happy and out of the real clubs, then i'm happy.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, a Love and Rockets reunion now. Well I figured that was inevitable.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

As usual, the lineup has a few bands I really want to see and a slew I'm utterly indifferent towards.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:50 (seventeen years ago)

lol at Jack Johnson

Ned Raggett OTM; this lineup is really really boring, minus a few bright spots.

stephen, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

After going like, fuck, four years consecutively I made the decision after last year to skip this year out unless somehow Bowie headlined. Saving money for an Alaskan vacation in August.

Feeling pretty good about my decision at this point, tbqh!

brightscreamer, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 01:07 (seventeen years ago)

i really hope the Portishead, Kraftwerk, Love and Rockets, Spiritualized appearances are the first of many in the states this year...

stephen, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 01:27 (seventeen years ago)

I like seeing Dwight Yoakam's name right next to MIA. This fest looks ... long.

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

Too many repeat artists from recent years.

naus, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

lol uffie gets relegated to last person listed on saturday

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 22 January 2008 04:48 (seventeen years ago)

stephen, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 04:51 (seventeen years ago)

Jack Johnson, Portishead, Roger Waters. One of these things is not like the other.

Super Subway Comedian, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 05:08 (seventeen years ago)

american?

gabbneb, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

The idea of Jack Johnson headlining one night seems laughable on the face of it until you remember we're in Southern California. And every beach culture area has its own Jimmy Buffet.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

Sort of reminds you of the "Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Nickelback, etc." joke-poster that made the rounds a few years ago, doesn't it?

Cunga, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 06:32 (seventeen years ago)

No MBV = :(

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 06:47 (seventeen years ago)

The Animals? WTF?

Holy Fuck FTW.

inhibitionist, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 06:48 (seventeen years ago)

lol i didn't see Para One on that list, that CD he put out a while back was the worst sounding music i've ever had to review.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 07:53 (seventeen years ago)

i mean, vomitous bad. like strain vitalic & daft punk through a 'good' filter and then a soul 'filter' and then a 'dance' filter and make that sound into an album. i almost cried.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 07:54 (seventeen years ago)

I like the Para One remix of Boys Noise "My Head" (but I haven't heard the CD you're talking about).

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 07:56 (seventeen years ago)

oh god, it just... i mean, i've grown to appreciate some of the more current popular dancey stuff coming out of france and england, but Para One is just... i mean, i even heard a dj set he did, and it was without anything interesting or good. fucking Sasha, considered by many raving idiots to be 'the best dj evah bruh,' can outdo the mofo in his sleep.

okay, enough vitriol against mainstream contemp eurohouse for the evening.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 08:01 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, I *really* like some of Sasha's mixes! Global Underground? Northern Exposure?

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 08:11 (seventeen years ago)

couple of great typos in that list

StanM, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 08:25 (seventeen years ago)

There are a lot of really great artists in the small print, but why the f*ck is Jack Johnson at the top of this flyer?

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

Because what I said, Spencer! Dude pulls crowds around here!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

the idea of Jack Johnson makes a lotta sense when you realize someone's gotta compensate for the small-market really-pretty-good-ness below the top name on these bills so they can actually pull the thing off.

gabbneb, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

or, what ned said

gabbneb, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

I have never heard of this person. I'm thinking someone else could have fit the bill better and sold tickets.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

Surely, Jack Johnson is not the only person who can sell tickets?

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

People are telling me he is like Dave Matthews with a surfboard?

Jimmy Buffet, as noted above. I'm seriously surprised you didn't at least know who he was!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

Ha, have never even heard the name.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

would that i lived in your bubble spencer! you clearly dont go to college.

max, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

Isn't Jack Johnson the guy Miles Davis made an album about?

Gotta love Portishead being billed above Kraftwerk. I didn't know they even exist anymore.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

Portishead, that is.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)

Dwight Yoakam is awesome live, don't sleep!

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

Why is My Morning Jacket billed so high??

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:21 (seventeen years ago)

"legendary" live act

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

i've never seen them but supposedly they blow every other band out of the water at festivals

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

I think I am going to skip this year and go on a trip somewhere else.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

but Spencer, the Black Kids!

Mackro Mackro, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 23:46 (seventeen years ago)

I REALLY like that one song of theirs.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

Looks like they've added Yelle to the lineup (or I didn't see it on that first flyer)

naus, Thursday, 24 January 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

I saw MMJ open for Doves six years ago in Dallas. They only played maybe seven songs, but to this day it's one of my favorite shows ever. I'm going to see them again in March.

Walked out on Doves about six songs in, btw.

turkey, Friday, 25 January 2008 06:28 (seventeen years ago)

Just for Spencer -- Jack Johnson, 'troubadour dude with a cause'.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 January 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

You have GOT to be f*cking kidding me.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 25 January 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

Ah, I have heard of him before. I remember seeing this CD

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005V8PZ.03._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

when I was in Hawaii and my ex said she loved it (a person who my friends described as way too westside for me). She played about 30 seconds of a song before I said that cd cover should be in the dictionary next to "mediocrity".

Spencer Chow, Friday, 25 January 2008 19:09 (seventeen years ago)

See, I knew even you couldn't escape him.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 January 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

Some people say he's handsome but I think he looks mildly retarded (and sounds that way when speaking as well).

Spencer Chow, Friday, 25 January 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

jack johnson is for dudes who wear true religion jeans with flip-flops and the girls that love them

The Macallan 18 Year, Saturday, 26 January 2008 00:37 (seventeen years ago)

i really hope the Portishead, Kraftwerk, Love and Rockets, Spiritualized appearances are the first of many in the states this year...

Spiritualized just played a couple months back. Apparently the Coachella show is Jason's last acoustic show before the new album comes out.

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 26 January 2008 01:27 (seventeen years ago)

Spencer I am heading there in a couple of hours. Mostly we'll be chilling at the house but I'll try to see MGMT, My Morning Jacket, Prince, maybe Kraftwerk. Mail me if you want to meet up Sat.

felicity, Friday, 25 April 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

I wouldn't have liked them a year ago but My Morning Jacket are really good live.

felicity, Monday, 28 April 2008 02:51 (seventeen years ago)

that's what my college friends keep telling me, but i still don't believe they're my thing

gabbneb, Monday, 28 April 2008 02:56 (seventeen years ago)

fuck guys, i'm really sad the feist rumor wasn't true. :(

Tape Store, Monday, 28 April 2008 03:07 (seventeen years ago)

SO PRINCE WAS RATHER GOOD

jamescobo, Monday, 28 April 2008 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

love the thin lizzy shirt in that pic with the train

Charlie Howard, Monday, 28 April 2008 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

I watched the webcasts for Portishead, Spiritualized and waiting for Love & Rockets in half an hour or so.

stephen, Monday, 28 April 2008 05:44 (seventeen years ago)

Metric on that ATT stream was really cool and fun, Love and Rockets is kind of dissapointing so far (3 songs into the set)

sous les paves, Monday, 28 April 2008 06:13 (seventeen years ago)

i just tuned in. what did L7R play the first 4 or 5 tunes?

stephen, Monday, 28 April 2008 06:47 (seventeen years ago)

and by L7R i mean L&R

stephen, Monday, 28 April 2008 06:48 (seventeen years ago)

1. ball of confusion (bad)
2. no big deal (ok)
3. it could be sunshine
4. no new tale to tell

then i kind of forget the order but they played 'motorcycle' and 'all in my mind' and 'kundalini express' next.

sous les paves, Monday, 28 April 2008 06:54 (seventeen years ago)

oh cool

wish i'd seen a few of those, no new tale, motorcycle, ah well

get ready for "so alive" huh

stephen, Monday, 28 April 2008 06:56 (seventeen years ago)

OMG are they mad? what are these bumblebee type......... things?? on stage?

stephen, Monday, 28 April 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

they did 'motorcycle' all slow and mellow acoustic-like and it was pretty good, maybe the best song they did. the 'no new tale to tell' arrangement wasn't really very good at all. They did nothing to replace the studio parts that were missing from the song.

sous les paves, Monday, 28 April 2008 07:05 (seventeen years ago)

this is where you post your coachella 2008 goodtimes and make me feel bad for skipping out this year

The Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

I heard Prince did a cover of "Creep"

van smack, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 01:29 (seventeen years ago)

Haha oh man... http://youtube.com/watch?v=6u1ekw3LB0I

van smack, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

while we were waiting in the line to leave the venue Saturday night after Prince, my friend checked Google on his blackberry and discovered that the AP already had a story up about Prince covering "Creep"

jamescobo, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 01:41 (seventeen years ago)

OMG are they mad? what are these bumblebee type......... things?? on stage?

The Buuuuuuuubblemen...are coming
The Buuuuuuuubblemen...are coming
The Buuuuuuuubblemen...are coming
The Buuuuuuuubblemen...are here.

HOORAY!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 01:42 (seventeen years ago)

oh - also Mark Ronson's set was stupidly fun. nothing but guest vocalists (none of whom were particularly impressive outside of Sam Sparro, who tore "Black & Gold" to SHREDS) and crazy-ass instrumentation and such - basically, it was going for the same sense of spectacle as Prince's set, just without anywhere near the same level of professionalism (not that anyone in their right mind would hold a grudge over it).

also, much like everyone else in attendance for his set, I fell ass over teakettle in love with his button-cute asian violinist

jamescobo, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 01:48 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/29/arts/music/29coac.html?th&emc=th Ben Ratliff overview in the NY Times, he also wrote a separate praising Prince article.

coachella is awesome! l.a.'s most douche-free weekend of the year imo

omar little, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

lol yeah a lot of empty bars this weekend! i only had to wait 5 minutes to get drinks usually

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

Did anyone catch the Swervedriver show, and if so then how was it? Trying to decide whether to get Austin tix for the reunion show...

stephen, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)

Maura sez it was pretty good.
