"Knocking" is the obvious choice for me but I'm also gravitating to the slow burners like "Memory Motel" and "Thru And Thru."

Definitely "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?"

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:21 (seventeen years ago)

"Jigsaw Puzzle" by a little over "Sympathy for the Devil"

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:41 (seventeen years ago)

"Jigsaw Puzzle," I guess. I feel like "Let it Loose" should be in here, even though it's only 5-something - it just feels way more epic than, say, "Fingerprint File" (which I have a hard time not voting for).

clotpoll, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 06:35 (seventeen years ago)

Sympathy, basically.

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" (closely followed by "Sympathy For The Devil").

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 10:31 (seventeen years ago)

Bullsht boomer nostalgia notwithstanding, you just can't fuck with "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

JN$OT, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 10:54 (seventeen years ago)

aah, that one. It's all fantastic but the verses are, well, adequate. As opposed to "as good as they should have been"

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 10:56 (seventeen years ago)

"Jigsaw Puzzle." Just keeps getting spookier and spookier as it goes along.

Sara Sara Sara, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

Sympathy For The Devil.

Although epics weren't their thing, it's tough to argue with this.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 15:08 (seventeen years ago)

Rambler

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

Memory Motel for the way it takes forever to get to the part where they kick Keith awake to sing "She's got a mi-yi-yi-ind of her own and she used it well, yeah" and then he goes back to sleep until it's his turn again in another three minutes...

smurfherder, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

At 4:30, "Gimme Shelter" feels more epic than most of these.

I'll go for "You Can't Always Get What You Want" ... "Sympathy for the Devil" isn't quite evil enough, especially the backing vocals.

Brad C., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

Are you kidding? The b/vocs are practically the best part.

JN$OT, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

"Jigsaw Puzzle"

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

How about I can vote for Sisters of Mercy's cover of "Gimme Shelter"? That (cover) is the only one I like.

Abbott, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

"Out of Time (long version)"

Bob Six, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Memory Motel," for reasons smurfherder already articulated, and for how desperately Mick tries to enforce the distance between himself and the girl he won't admit he fell for by dra-a-a-a-a-wling every vowel.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:06 (seventeen years ago)

The Stones don't really do epics but I'll take the closest, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" with "Going Home" second.

Euler, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

what about moonlight mile? does that count?

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:25 (seventeen years ago)

At 4:30, "Gimme Shelter" feels more epic than most of these

OTM

rogermexico., Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:32 (seventeen years ago)

^ But that said I'm voting for "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"

rogermexico., Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

"Going Home" is a really, really horrible track from an otherwise rather good album. So repetitive it would have been unlistenable even as a three minute song.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 13 December 2007 12:57 (seventeen years ago)

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" (closely followed by "Sympathy For The Devil").

actually yeah Moonlight Mile is a real stones epic! I'd vote for it were it listed.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 14 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

two months pass...

You truly have never heard Midnight Rambler until you hear the Leeds March 13, 1971 (Get Your Leeds Lungs Out) version. One hundred times better than any other live performance of any song caught on tape by them, anywhere.

iago g., Monday, 10 March 2008 02:40 (seventeen years ago)

love midnight rambler
