i don't know some of these. and i didn't know "androgynous" was a single (or a video). but that's a lot of great singles.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:50 (seventeen years ago)

(oops i didn't look close that's not a real video. but the wikipedia list sez it was a real single, so close enough.)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:52 (seventeen years ago)

Crimson and Clover, over and over.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:53 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i'm guessing it's mostly "bad reputation" vs. "crimson & clover." with some "i love rock 'n' roll" outliers, plus assorted wild cards. i could almost go "victim of circumstance."

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

but who'm i kidding, her "crimson & clover" is like one of my 10 favorite songs of all time.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

She has singles??!?!?!!

Tape Store, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 05:55 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to bat for her hair metal days: "I Hate Myself.." - but my love for Freaks & Geeks really makes me want to vote for "Bad Reputation."

Pillbox, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 06:00 (seventeen years ago)

(nb: the "cherry bomb" on the list is her re-recording, not the runaways' version. which is still totally great and all, just noting for the record.)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 06:02 (seventeen years ago)

Big Orioles fan.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 11 December 2007 06:04 (seventeen years ago)

i could just pretty much watch this all night.

Tape Store, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 06:11 (seventeen years ago)

such a badass.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 06:31 (seventeen years ago)

Oh,hmm...just read this on the Joan Jett wiki: "Jett is to executive produce the 2009 upcoming film Neon Angels, which chronicles the Runaways' career. Floria Sigismondi, who has also directed videos for Marilyn Manson, the White Stripes and David Bowie, is to write and direct."

I'll watch that.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 08:18 (seventeen years ago)

Didn't she get Lungfish to open for her on some shows? She's a huge Fugazi fan, apparently.

Savannah Smiles, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 09:46 (seventeen years ago)

i could almost go "victim of circumstance."

DO IT!

Worth it almost for the first line alone...

rogermexico., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 09:54 (seventeen years ago)

Neither do I but "I Love Rock'n'Roll" is OK voting for, I guess.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 12:15 (seventeen years ago)

But Geir she didn't write that song! Oh noes.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

her "crimson & clover"Bad Reputation is like one of my 10 favorite songs of all time.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, and it now conjurs the opening credits of "Freaks and Geeks" for me as well, which only sweetens the deal.

Savannah Smiles, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 12:28 (seventeen years ago)

I really liked her cover of the Gits' "Second Skin" (under the name EVIL STIG), but -- y'know, that's not here. So I'm going with "Bad Reputation," `cos it rocks.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 13:52 (seventeen years ago)

'bad reputation' is yoga flame for all time.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 15:41 (seventeen years ago)

Watching her videos on youtube give me a warm feeeling, if you know what I mean. Sexy as all hell get out.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

EVIL STIG album severely underrrated

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

"I Hate Myself...," but I love lots of these, especially "Light of Day."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

yeah evil stig is a solid rock record, and a pretty cool move too.

"light of day" is excellent. (and she's good in the movie.)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

forgot how much i like this one.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, not much of a body of work is it?

dally, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

pssh. greatest cover artist of the last 30 years.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

(that could be an exaggeration. but her taste is unfuckwithable.)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

I love her "Roadrunner." Obviously a very different beast than Richman's, but I don't think the polish hurts it any. The backing vox are ace.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 07:16 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 13 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Cherry Bomb", which I like even more than the Runaways' original (wasn't real crazy about Cherie Currie's Mae West-inflection.)

"Fake Friends", "C&C", "Bad Reputation" all pretty great too.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 13 December 2007 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

DO YA WANNA TOUCH

YEAH

DO YA WANNA TOUCH

YEAH

she does some kind of key modulation to the last chorus in that tune that just slays me.

sleeve, Thursday, 13 December 2007 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 14 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

Freaks and Geeks fans ftw.

Fit To Be Tied is one of the greatest albums in rock history.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

yup.

occupy the A train (difficult listening hour), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

one of the best covers artists ever. "crimson and clover" + "do you wanna touch me" + "i love rock and roll", all totally repossessed.

occupy the A train (difficult listening hour), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

"do you wanna touch me" has the simplest/best/lolest little talking-to-herself bit:

DO YOU WANNA TOUCH ME THERE
WHERE
THERE
YEAH

occupy the A train (difficult listening hour), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

and "Everyday People"! and "Roadrunner"!

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

sometimes hers is my favorite roadrunner i know that's blasphemy and stuff, people look at me pityingly at parties

occupy the A train (difficult listening hour), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

i'm glad "fake friends" got some votes.

occupy the A train (difficult listening hour), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

have you heard "French Song"? It's sexy.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:27 (thirteen years ago)

i haven't! i have heard the evil stig album, which is completely lovable; alex otm upthread about "second skin".

occupy the A train (difficult listening hour), Monday, 24 October 2011 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

Not a single, but I used to put this on mixtapes all the time. Possibly my favorite Joann Jett cover (Wind, cowritten by Joey Levine and originally sung by Tony Orlando!)

Blue Doggie Sweater (Dan Peterson), Monday, 24 October 2011 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

"Joann" Jett wtf...

Blue Doggie Sweater (Dan Peterson), Monday, 24 October 2011 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

Evil Stig album is awesome!

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 24 October 2011 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

six years pass...

So many good songs!

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 10 February 2018 02:46 (seven years ago)

four years pass...

Finally got a chance to see her live last night, she sounded great and the band rocked. She blew a few lyrics but it's probably hard to pay attention to which verse you're in the 8,000th time you sing "Crimson and Clover." Super fun show, and she still seems cooler than anyone I've ever met.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 18 September 2022 04:11 (two years ago)

I was especially happy to hear "Light of Day" and "Androgynous," neither of which I was sure she'd do.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 18 September 2022 04:12 (two years ago)

Her cover of "Season of the Witch" is pretty damn cool.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Sunday, 18 September 2022 14:18 (two years ago)

Can I just say what an inspired choice she's been the two or so times Nirvana "reunited?" She's cool, her voice is perfect, and she's one of the few substitute Cobains that no one would complain about.
