humph. The Black Arts not even in the running then.

mark e, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

Well, Katie Menua is singing w/ Eva Cassidy, is that black art enough?

So, Vic Reeves is the voice of Shaun the sheep, and was on TV yesterday about "awful Christmas records" (didn't see it myself)

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:00 (seventeen years ago)

but is Shaun the Sheep actually a crimbo record as opposed to a good old fashioned novelty hit ?
(the tv show is superb it has to be said !)

mark e, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:09 (seventeen years ago)

I don't know, I've not heard it.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:10 (seventeen years ago)

"We're All Going To Die" covered by Same Difference - all bets off.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:12 (seventeen years ago)

really, who could have predicted a member of arab strap would be in danger of inadvertently scuppering his careeer with a christmas number 1

cw, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:36 (seventeen years ago)

Arab Crap, morelike

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

In what way will selling records scupper his "career"?

xp

onimo, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:55 (seventeen years ago)

ask nizlopi.

cw, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 10:58 (seventeen years ago)

Exact same thing.

onimo, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:00 (seventeen years ago)

Niz: One big hit record, album sells better than it would, they carry on doing what they want, get paid more for gigs, and so on!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:01 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, I imagine after Malcolm has whatever sized hit he's going to have he'll go straight back to doing what he was doing before, watched by the same people, and might sell a few extra albums. It's not like a massive sell out move that's going to have his hard core fan base reject him.

onimo, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:04 (seventeen years ago)

Hey, there's always a few insufferable indie-ers who'll disown you for having an accidental hit.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

Did White Town's career suffer?

(That's not meant as a rhetorical q, btw)

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:09 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure he made enough dosh out of it to go back to what he would have been doing anyway.

It's a bit of a Neil Morrissey situation really.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:12 (seventeen years ago)

huh? what's different about this malcolm middleton song in that it has chart potential?

electricsound, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:16 (seventeen years ago)

poorly worded but anyway i suppose i could just go and listen to it

electricsound, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:17 (seventeen years ago)

It features a tune.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:17 (seventeen years ago)

Arab Strap had the occasional "radio" hit, the "first weekend of the summer" and that one about the circus never ending that had all the ironic cover versions as b-sides.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 11:19 (seventeen years ago)

Hey, there's always a few insufferable indie-ers who'll disown you for having an accidental hit.

I'm sure he could happily live without them.

Melua duet headed for number one

The original Louis Armstrong song was first released in 1967
What A Wonderful World, Katie Melua's charity duet with the late Eva Cassidy, will top the UK singles chart this weekend, midweek sales data suggests.

ARRGH!! !!! SAY NO!!!!!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 13:58 (seventeen years ago)

THIS RECORD IS A CROSS BETWEEN EVA CASSIDY AND KATIE MELUA!!!

IT IS DEAD BORING!!!!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

mark.
switch the fucking radio off.
life will become a lot less capitalised.

mark e, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:01 (seventeen years ago)

(it's not even on! I can't actually hear the record, and haven't! It's purely there by osmosis!)

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:02 (seventeen years ago)

Swift retaliatory action by Cowell is required!

Whose version of "Supermassive Black Hole" will capture the coveted Christmas number one slot - Rhydian's or Some Difference's? It's YOUR VOTE THAT COUNTS (for legal reasons)!

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:09 (seventeen years ago)

Or Same Difference's even, assuming that they haven't already been assigned "Welcome To The Black Parade."

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:09 (seventeen years ago)

i wish we were like every other country in the world in not giving a shit about this

blueski, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:10 (seventeen years ago)

America had "How You Remind Me" as an Xmas #1 once.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

America doesn't give two and a half craps about who or what is #1 at Christmas. They might as well have had it on April 17th, it's all the same.

With all due respect, if Malcolm Middleton seriously wanted a shot at the Xmas #1, it would have been wise to release his single on formats other than 7" vinyl YES I KNOW IT'S ON THE ALBUM but even so.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

YUUUUUUUUUUUHHH ftw

r|t|c, Thursday, 20 December 2007 16:13 (seventeen years ago)

shame on the xmas steel drum bands on oxford street for not playing it 24/7 already

r|t|c, Thursday, 20 December 2007 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

I suppose the significant format for Malc is the download mp3.

You know that if "The first weekend of summer" had been available as a download back when, it'd have gone to number one, right?

Mark G, Thursday, 20 December 2007 16:25 (seventeen years ago)

If "Hello Tiger" had been an MP3 download it would have been at #1 for 26 weeks

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 20 December 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

So, todays the day.

The pogues overtake Mariah
MMiddleton get's the 'plucky surprise' award
and it goes to Leon.

Of course, if Leon does not get it, there will be revolution on the front pages, the 'rule of Simon' will be over, and they'll have to manufacture some new cash cow.

Mark G, Sunday, 23 December 2007 11:06 (seventeen years ago)

Pogues get number four (So, highest christmas record this year)

MMiddleton got number 31. No plucky surprise award or cigar even.

Oh and Amy Witehouse gets positions 9 and 10 on the album chart with "Back in Black"

Revolution is therefore cancelled.

Mark G, Monday, 24 December 2007 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

Winehouse, obv.

Mark G, Monday, 24 December 2007 09:36 (seventeen years ago)

amy winehouse should collaborate with whitehouse

electricsound, Monday, 24 December 2007 09:52 (seventeen years ago)
