Great Poll Idea - it was between Lost in the Former West and Viva Dead Ponies for me - went with the later ... need to hear a lot of the microdisney stuff ...

full disclosure: I also went for Viva Dead Ponies, but flirted with Bertie's Brochures for a second...

Proabably "The Clock Comes Down The Stairs". Haven't listened to any of that stuff in years.

Valhalla Avenue is extremely underratred, and at the time a bear to find. Foburg is his best & most consistent solo album - he adds back some of the Fatima bile for great effect.

But I've gotta pick Lost In The Former West. One of the best demonstations of the quiet/loud/quiet asthete.

Is he still making new music? "Rancho Tetrahedron" came out in 2010 and a good one it was.

I never got any of the Microdisney albums, preferring the two disc anthology.

1. 39 Minutes
2. Valhalla Avenue
3. Viva Dead Ponies
4. Crooked Mile
5. Lost In The Former West

I can't get into his solo material really. There's something a bit austere about it, not so much musically but spiritually. Maybe austere is the wrong word, but whatever.

does it look like i'm here (jon123), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:22 (five years ago)

He has three song features on the new Sean O'Hagan album and did an album called North Sea Scrolls with Luke Haines a few years ago.

That reminds me of something off of XTC's "Apple Venus".
